Voorhees Township School District - Early Age Sex Education opt-out form

My children attended both Kresson Elementary and Voorhees Middle School (VMS)…read more Kresson is a mixed experience. While some areas are fine, I feel the school has declined in developing early writing and math skills. Class sizes appear larger, and there are insufficient teachers to focus on developing critical thinking and fostering deeper learning. At the same time, the district has been eager to promote Early Sex Education under the Health curriculum and has staff dedicated to those lessons. Parents should know that you can opt out of the Sex Education portion if you wish. Opt-out forms can be requested through your district school administration and must be submitted by September 22nd. As for VMS, both my children and I found the administration to be a complete disaster. Bullying was a serious issue for years, yet little to no progress was ever made in resolving it. My child with autism "graduated" from VMS after enduring multiple traumatic incidents, including a fractured collarbone, a concussion, and being attacked with a metal chain by a group of students at the public park. Instead of supporting him, the administration punished him for standing up for himself. Parents should also be aware that NJ schools are not required to release video surveillance evidence to parents--even in cases where a child suffers physical abuse. In our case, incidents were dismissed as "bad luck," "accidents," or worse, the administration placed the blame on my son himself. No resources were ever provided to help him develop social skills, despite his autism diagnosis. To be fair, many of the teaching staff at VMS are very good, and some teachers are truly excellent. But when it comes to the administration, I would give zero stars. If you wish to opt your child out of Early Sex Education as part of the Health class at VMS, don't hesitate to get in touch with the school for the necessary form.

As someone who went to this school, I can say that it's not good. Yes, they have a lot of clubs &…read morestuff, but you have to pay $200 to be in a club. Second, they seem to only care about the sports teams & not regular students. Third, they're very very very disorganized. Sometimes they would change something without informing anyone, so everyone in the office including me would be confused. Not to mention that when I & like 5 other girls reported a student for sexual assault they let him off with just a warning... well I guess I mentioned it. My senior year was great, but all the other years sucked. What would make this school better would be to eliminate (or lower) the ridiculously high activity fee, to show more care for the student who don't do sports or marching band, & to be more organized with the staff & not make last minute decisions. Also, cutting the budget so low that teachers have to use the same scantron for like 5 tests, but the sports team still gets so much money funded for them? Okay, I'll stop. But do what I said above & don't give someone who sexually assaulted multiple women just a warning, & the school would have potential to be amazing.

I guess if I had to rate my experience at this school it would most definitely be a 3 out of 5…read more First star is simply awarded due to Mr. Lee's ability to wear a full suit outside every day even when it's 90 degrees outside, even if his entire body at that point is just dripping with sweat. 2nd star is awarded for the yearly cringe session that is the "Juul Presentation." 500 kids packed in a room being told "not to juul." That'll teach em! Just like the D.A.R.E program did. 3rd star was "given" to the fact that the lunch served at this school is absolutely atrocious and needs to be deemed a danger to humans by the CDC.

I attended Triton Regional MANY moons ago - Highland's rival. Back then Highland was known as the…read more"rough house" of the two high schools for sure. Over the years, Triton has gone downhill (bad scandal about 8 years ago involving perverted teachers and a VP who covered it up!) . . . ) and Highland has gotten a better reputation. However, fights have been breaking out lately, and of course it concerns me. The Principal is corny, but SEEMS to be on top of the student body and genuinely care. Harsh penalties for shady (and worse!) students are now in full force and effect - GOOD! She has very good communication. I pulled my son out of an elective class because the teacher (a male) was a real a$$hat and was verbally abusing my son, as well as other students. I told the VP, and he cajoled me. Let's just get my kids their diplomas and move on. Nothing stellar about this h.s. I do appreciate the police presence and top notch security system though. As with any school, it's what you put into it. Go Tartans!

I was grateful to be among distinguished alumni who have gone on to pursue excellent careers in their respective fields. I wasn't a very well known student here but I am glad that I had the experiences that I had here that would later cement my future. I had the utmost honor of being friends with some phenomenal women (some whom have passed on) that still continue to support me today. I truly believe that being in honors classes, AP classes and a myriad of sports (namely tennis, softball and a brief stint in cross country) will forever impact the course of my life journey. May Marquita Cabrera and Sarai Campbell forever rest in power.
