The overall school atmosphere is like something out of a fairytale. From pick up to drop off, we are greeted with smiling faces, kind students, friendly parents and an overall feeling of inclusion. Academically, we were impressed with the curriculum at the PK and K levels. In addition to his normal class schedule, our son has two special-subject areas each day; one being Coding (taught by the amazing Rachel Kaplan). All special areas are wonderful, but as I understand it, MFS is the only school in NJ to teach Coding (which is the future) at the PK and K levels. We are planning to start our younger son, age 2, into the PS program next year as he will be old enough to enroll (age 3) by September.

He came from a private school in Philadelphia where he graduated top of his class, and won Pennsylvania awards for musicianship and was head chorister at his professional church choir. He is also now an award winning pianist and composer. His creativity was saved at MFS by Ed Robertson and Rich Marcucci - just wonderful artists and musicians. Other than that no one else seemed to care about his level of musicianship. During his junior year we asked for specific help about applying to creative and performing arts schools. During College admissions night, the guidance counselors admitted to us they had no process in place for developing our creative students' porfolios. After checking with Westtown School, Friends Central, Friends Select and Germantown Friends, we realized that MFS was really lacking in their ability to help our creative children. After spending $16,000 a year on our son's high school education we were truly disappointed in MFS's lack of help for our creative child and also their lack of folow up after the college admissions night. They really had no idea how to treat college applications for creative students. They only seemed to are about Ivy League level students and had no interest in their creative students. We would truly like to know whether things have changed. If not, I will continue to recommend Moorestown High School or one of the Philadelphia Friends Schools if parents have a creative child and live in this area. Renee Jones

Sadly, in under six weeks, our experience became extremely stressful and heartbreaking. From the start, we received repeated negative feedback about normal toddler behaviour. One bathroom accident was described to us as "the worst in six years." We were told his removing his shoes in class (normal in our home) was a problem rather than something to be understood. On his first full day, because he didn't nap, we were encouraged to move him to half days. By the end of the month, his teacher suggested he might be "better off returning next year." Shortly after, we were informed that our son was on "strike 5" due to having more bathroom accidents than the school allows. This was devastating especially because he had just undergone umbilical hernia surgery and was on a doctor-prescribed daily laxative, which caused temporary loss of bowel control. Once we realized how serious it had become, we immediately provided doctor's notes and full transparency. Instead of compassion, we felt pressure and judgment. Our son began feeling uncomfortable approaching staff when he needed help, which no child especially at this age should ever feel. We did not choose to withdraw him. We felt pushed out by policies that allowed no grace for a child healing from surgery. The emotional toll on our family was overwhelming. A faith-based school should lead with patience, understanding, and care. Sadly, that was not our experience. I share this so other parents can make an informed decision.

My child really enjoys going there and is excited in the mornings walking in. As a parent I can say one of the things that is always cautious is that you never know a 100% what is going on with your child so a lot of trust is involved but from what I have seen and the reactions I get from my child they have a very fun hands on program with the kids and you couldn't really ask much more. I will probably re-review in the coming years when my child enters the older classrooms to see how the development is handled. As of now though it is pretty good.

Most importantly, the reason why many of you are either at the school currently or looking at this school, they have excellent programs in place to help students with ADHD, and Autism. That is all surface level. This is exactly what Hill Top Preparatory School wants you to see. It's all true. When you go past this surface level though you uncover an iceberg larger than you could ever expect. Disclaimer: I started here in 9th grade and cannot speak for the middle school. At Hill Top Preparatory School I was alone. I graduated in 2023 bitter, badly traumatized, and angry. To spare all of the details I will try to quickly explain all of the reasons why I will never allow my future children anywhere near this school. As a queer black male, I was subjected to bullying worse than I could have ever imagined. I spent 9th grade with very little human interaction as all it took was 2-3 unchecked kids to get the entire school to believe I was a r*pist with no knowledge or reason to indicate that I actually was. While rumors spreading is common amongst highschoolers the problem lies with how it was handled in such a small school. David Vandyke is by far the worst person on staff and unfortunately serves as the head of discipline and student life. When I had gone to him about these rumors I was told nothing could be done, no one could be punished, everything was just "he said she said". After losing all of my friends to rumors and false allegations that had gone unchecked by authority I as a 14 year old boy was left to fight for myself and eventually get everything cleared up. 10th grade skipped due to lack of space. Just racism towards my mixed races relationship. 11th grade comes and by now Mr Vandyke had threattened to expel me twice now. Once for pushing a kid that was bullying my girlfriend and causing him to hit his head (he bled a little but was fine), and a second time for a "cyberbullying incident" in which several people had come forward saying it was just an argument and I was the one getting attacked in the first place. A third incident happens (that was actually my fault this time) and I am once again threatened with expulsion. It was always this looming blade held over my head as a way of scaring me into line. It actually worked with my mother. Every time I came to her asking advice on my mistreatment or the mistreatment of a friend by the school administration my mom would say to just drop it for fear of me getting expelled. 12th grade is finally here and its probably tied with 9th for the actual worst schooling year of my life. I'm running out of space so I'll go over the rest quickly. I befriended an 8th grader and a third of the staff assumed I was grooming him, I came out as a femboy and was told I was looking for attention by mr vandyke (a year later I'm now transgender), I was threatened with expulsion one final time because I started to open up about my hallucinations and dissociative identity disorder (yes my trauma was that bad), and the staff actively encouraged a relationship between an 18 year old and a 15 year old (they're both white). Just another day at Hill Top Prep. Now I will admit it wasn't all bad but there were definitely a LOT of very avoidable things, questionable bordering on racist action being taken, and honestly a lot of dark things going on when you look past the happy atmosphere this school projects. I will be back as an alumni to visit the few teachers who were unconditionally good to me through my hardships and the administration is lucky I don't sue for negligence and discrimination.

Two of our three children currently attend St. Joseph. Our eldest is in the HS. We have never had an issue or doubt as to whether we have made the right choice. The academics are challenging and standardized testing is not an issue for the kids. I would recommend this school to anyone, catholic or non catholic like myself.

Every day when my sons leave for school, I feel comforted that they are receiving a first-rate education in a safe and loving environment. They enjoy all of the extra-curricular activities as well, including basketball, chess club, art club, yearbook and much more. My older sons who are currently enrolled at St Joseph High School, were well prepared for their studies due to the foundation laid by St Joseph Elementary.

I told you we will try him in our program and will work with you to see if he fit into our program with all of YOUR already concerns. I also said it is NOT my job to tell a parent and diagnosis any child with Autism. You had ask me several times in the few weeks he was here if I thought he was Autistic. I said he has some tendencies. We met many times to discuss all of your concerns that you had with your son. Miss Renee has many many years of experience in this field and myself. I take pride in what we both do to provide excellent care and proper education skills for all the children going through Carousel to succeed in their future education. Berlin Boro and many other school districts tell our parents going into kindergarten that the children coming from Carousel Academy are the most prepared kids coming from any other preschool and excel in their first year of big school. We worked through your child's day by day experiences. We gave your child a one on one aide, me being one of them at times. You thanked me up and down for keeping him here and working with your son. We tried our best and felt he needed to have more one on one assistance and maybe look into getting him evaluated with your school district. I Never and will Never tell any parent their child has Autism. It is not my job! We have his cousin here and he has been very successful in our program. There is a place for EVERY child, you just have to find the right fit.
