This place is going downhill fast! Ive been ordering from this place for years and always had great experiences up until about 3 months ago. They are penny pinching so much they barely put any sauce on their food anymore. Then when we called to complain about barely any sauce (they literally put just enough to cover the chicken and absolutely none for the rice) they say we have to say "extra sauce" which is $3.00 extra/meal, if we want all our meals with some sort of sauce that would be over$15/order. Between the prices going up and the meals getting smaller its not even worth ordering from them anymore. We order damn near every 2 weeks and is normally $75-$100 order everytime we order so they KNOW exactly who we are. But between the horrible customer service and the food I will not be ordering from them again. Good luck if you choose to order from them. Ordered take out and got a mix of Chinese and Japanese food. I had General Tsos Shrimp which had some of the biggest and tastiest shrimp I've had. The sauce had a nice spice, as it should, but I can't say enough about the shrimp. I also had a few pieces of eel sushi which I thought were good, but not great. Not too bad a bad place to get a quick bite when the other areas are closed. I usually just grab some crab wontons and an order of tofu, maybe two rolls at most. The vegetarian roll choices are the best bet for us every time. Rarely gotten anything more than that though due to the fish and chicken usually not being the freshest; had a few occasions where it felt almost frozen in the middle, but that's only been experienced perhaps thrice over the past few years. Never tried any of the special rolls, or anything from the kitchen menu, but my family has complained of smaller portions and lack of flavor for the latter compared to other take-out places. My personal complaint is that the beef wontons (even though they're extremely cheap, and I really shouldn't expect much) were salty enough to make me sick after splitting half an order with a friend. read more

Hammontonians don't much like to venture out of Hammonton. Luckily, they really never have to now that Eastern Phoenix has set up shop in downtown H-town, serving the freshest and most delicious sushi I've ever tasted in my life. Eastern Phoenix is the best thing Hammonton has going for it, as far as restaurants go. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that many Hammontonians are aware of this. The inside is really nothing to look at. Upon entering, you're faced with a very tiny sushi bar and kitchen, and a table or two. To the left there is a modestly sized dining room (with the TV turned to Telemundo on mine and boyfriend's last visit.) Don't let its appearance affect your decision to dine with Eastern Phoenix; there's magic coming out of that kitchen. I've only dined here twice, and had takeout several times. However, the young lady who is always hostessing/waitressing immediately recognized boyfriend and me. She is consistently friendly, polite, and pleasant. She even remembered that boyfriend ordered Chicken Lo Mein last time. Eastern Phoenix offers a full range of Chinese food and sushi. I can now attest to the fact that their Chinese offerings are just as delicious as the sushi. I'm not really a fan of Lo Mein, especially not when there's raw fish to be had, but Eastern's is tasty, fresh, and far less greasy than other versions. But I can't lie: I come here for sushi, and sushi alone. Eastern's sushi and sashimi list is extensive and impressive. Definitely the most creative and appealing sushi menu in South Jersey. Everything is beautifully presented and fresh. Eastern's specialty rolls are the highlight of this menu: the Eastern Phoenix Roll, Beautiful Roll, Hammonton Roll, Spider Roll, and Sweetheart Roll all melt in your mouth. Seriously, the best sushi I've ever had. The prices are fair, and I love that they don't send out rolls that are 75% rice and 25% fish. One complaint I have is that they are stingy when it comes to the sashimi portions. They've gotten smaller as the months have progressed. The quality is so spot-on, though, I can't bring myself to dock them a star for it. If you have to go to Hammonton (and even if you don't have to), put Eastern Phoenix on your to-do list. read more

Yum! So I get the general Tsos or the beef and broccoli. Both are so good! I get the combo with with rice and egg roll. And they deliver! It's my go to for Chinese I'm Hammonton. Only thing I wish is their beef sticks were as good as a competitor with the same pricing as well. You get 4? I think at EP for around $10 where as a competitor you get more for less and they taste a bit better. read more

My favorite and only place I'll get sushi. I've been going here for years now and I'm more and more impressed every single time. Definitely the best place in the area to get sushi. It's always fresh and always fast. Everyone that works there is friendly, attentive, and always makes sure were taken care of. I've yet to have even a mediocre experience at Eastern Phoenix. Working on a project in Hammonton so found this place on yelp to try out. 3 stars is just about perfect. Everything was fine. I got bean curd Szechuan style. Large portion with lots of veggies (onions, snap peas, mushrooms, carrots, celery). It wasn't spicy enough (or at all) so I asked for hot sauce. The hot sauce they brought out was just plain vinegar hot sauce. Disappointing. I was hoping for a more authentic chili paste. My colleague got the sushi lunch. Large portions. She seemed to enjoy it. It came with miso and salad with that yummy Japanese ginger carrot dressing. When she ordered her dish our server said, "you know that's raw fish, right?". I guess they have to do that in a small town when not everyone is familiar with sushi. It was just funny. Service was okay. It was very crowded and loud in there. Outdoor seating would be nice. Their sushi tastes fresh and delicious and their Sesame Chicken is so mouth-watering good, I'm hungry now just thinking about it. I eat at Eastern Phoenix 3 to 4 times per week. I do not eat sushi I eat the Chinese food. I have never had a bad meal here. The wontons are amazing. The chef's specials are wonderful.
