I told them at that time - and the lady wrote it down - that I would take 12 weeks off with my baby before I returned to work. They told me no problem and to just call them when he was born to determine his start date. I did exactly that. I called them 1 week after he was born, told them my return to work date of 11/7 (he was born 3 days after his due date, so he wouldn't be starting daycare any EARLIER than expected), and they told me that they wouldn't have any room for him until 12/19! They also said, "We have to make sure that another child is walking before then, so the very earliest we could get him in is the 19. If that child isn't walking, we'll have to push the date back further." I explained to the lady on the phone that this was going to give me 6 WEEKS without childcare and she asked me if I could get help from family or friends until then. Ridiculous! I don't have family nearby to help with childcare (if I did, I wouldn't be enrolling him in daycare) and all of my friends work during the day, too. When I asked for my $75 deposit back because they didn't hold his spot, they basically scoffed at me and said tough luck. I'm completely appalled. Don't enroll your child here - they may make you wait on another child's development so your kid can start daycare, and you'll be stuck scrambling to find a place (as if the early weeks after having a baby aren't stressful enough as it is). Totally let down and disappointed. I want my $75 back.

The first person I interacted with at KC was their director. She took me on a tour, showing me the infants room and telling me all the great things about KC. It was close to work and the director seemed great and that it why we chose to send our daughter there. Our experience was pretty rough from the start. The baby and I were both getting used to this new routine. I was trying not to be the typical overbearing mother and put my faith in the teachers/caregivers. One of my first negative experiences was in the first or second week there. I knew my daughter had been struggling a bit. I stopped in to see her on my lunch break and spoke with the main teacher and one of her helpers. They made it seem like she cried all day every day. They asked me if she was colicky and what kind of formula I was feeding her, etc. At home my daughter was very happy, slept well and didn't cry a lot at all so I found this conversation very disconcerting. I tried to continue the conversation with the main teacher when I picked up my little one that afternoon, and at that time she made it seem like my daughter was doing great and was totally adjusted to the new environment. This was confusing based on our previous conversation (that had totally stressed me out). I followed this up by emailing the director who never responded. In addition to the awkward, poor communication with the teacher, I had a bad interaction with the co-director. She called me about some paperwork and as I picked up the phone I could hear her complaining about someone (though I never figured out if it was about me or my daughter or sometime else entirely). It was completely unprofessional. In addition to these interactions I saw the infant room over ratio at least a handful times in the two months we were there. There were older infants and toddlers all over the small infants room, exposing the babies to more germs than they should have been (sometimes touching the babies because the teachers couldn't reign them all in). The main teacher seemed very stressed out a lot of the time. Her assistants were never consistent (different people there a lot, at both drop off and pick up). It honestly just felt very chaotic. Now that I've laid out my experience and why we left I will lay out some of the pluses... The teachers and director were very nice. While communication could certainly use improvement I do think they did well under the circumstances. I really liked one of the assistants who I believe worked in the older infants room full time but helped in the small infants room in the morning. KC (or at least this location) also provides their own diapers and wipes, which was pretty big perk. They also provided formula if you didn't mind to ask them for it (you still have to bring the formula home and prepare bottles every day). And they work with many companies to give an employee discounts. I'm sure childcare is an extremely challenging field to work in. I didn't walk away with any personal negative feelings for the people who work here. A lot of the challenges we faced are likely typical of any childcare organization. But I wanted a smaller, calmer environment and more personal care for my daughter so for us KC didn't work out.

Why would I leave my kids with someone that can't even find their papers? So I found this kindercare, and I'm honestly soooo happy things worked out the way they did, they classrooms are spacious, they offer more activities and things to do, and their playground looks super fun, my kids have never been in daycare and I was nervous but they settled all that and now I'm super confident and excited for my kids to be going here! When we showed up for this appointment, it had not been communicated that we were coming and would be touring. But- the manager, Kim, happily showed us around, despite being a bit surprised we were there. As we walked through, she spoke to the children by name, in a loving way, all the way explaining to us their Christian ethics and how they teach through play. Sign language is used in the baby room & a Spanish teacher comes in twice a week to work with the toddlers and young children. Since we were bringing in a small baby, she explained baby room rules and how the staff operates. After the tour, we were taken into the office and she went over the handbook with us, to make sure we understood the operation's management. We were given a packet specifically about the baby room. Both my husband and I left with a really good feeling that they had been upfront with us and explained many things that other daycares had glossed over. When enrolling, we brought our daughter into meet the staff. As a tiny girl, she garnered lots of attention, as all the employees love babies. They all stopped and cooed at her, making promises they were going to hold her and love her as much as they could. Every morning, when I take her to daycare- the employees greet her by name. Often times, they stop me and tell me how they held her during their lunch break and gave her a bottle. They tell me what a sweet girl she is. I receive pictures from the lead teacher in the infant room with text updates. I can call anytime I want during the day to check on her & find out what she's up to. I find the staff extremely personable and helpful. One day they contacted me about "an incident". Another child had scratched her & I was informed of the situation it had happened under and how they had remedied it. Upon picking her up, we had to sign the incident report, acknowledging that we know/understand. The funniest part: we never did see the scratch on her! I never would have known- if they hadn't gone through all the steps. I feel so much affection and appreciation of this daycare. They try to give as much love and attention to all the children, no matter what room they are in or who the teacher is. I'm glad they're helping to raise my girl!!! Even though I felt like I had to scramble to find daycare at the last minute- I think we ended up exactly where we need to be!

The staff is loving and well educated, the community of families is tight knit and diverse, and my children have not only gotten a solid foundation for future academic success-- they're also learning to be good citizens of the world. KHMC truly follows the philosophy of Maria Montessori and encourages children to talk through their conflicts and share the "peace rose," for example, rather than forcing an insincere apology, which preschoolers aren't developmentally ready for. The focus on letting kids have some autonomy also really fires up their curiosity about learning. I can't imagine a better start for my kids in their educational journey.

It is really disheartening that as an organization, there is a vast difference based on paying status. It should be about the children, giving them the foundation. Not on how the funds are being received by the parents.

The staff has changed through our time there but everyone was great! To name a few still there...Mandy as the director works hard and always a pleasure to work with! Maria, Courtney, Sammy, Mia, Abbi and Hannah all teachers that treated my kids as their own! Loved the preschool programs for my oldest she learned so much. My son in the infants even learned sign language! I liked that they had teacher conferences twice a year so you could have that one on one discussion on how they were doing. But the teachers were always available during drop off or pick up to discuss any recent questions as well. Summer program was fun with lots of outdoor playing, Kona ice visits, bike day and more! Other fun activities through the year with visits from the Florence Fire department, library, pj day, holiday parties and fun art work being sent home on the regular! Even art work from the Infants! We would still be at Cadance but with school starting for my oldest soon we moved to a place closer to our home. If you're considering Cadence look no further! Your children will be in great hands!
