There has been a livery stable here for a long time and this included a saddlery and farm shop. Now Swithens farm are about to launch their petting corner, play barn, improved farm shop and cafe. The shop stocks local produce including meat from the farm as well as a strange assortment of household items, the produce seems competitively priced and is obviously nice and fresh. A selection of sausages and burgers are also for sale crafted by the resident butcher. I haven't yet tried the cafe but a glance at the menu shows reasonable prices (coffee £1 and a full breakfast £3.50). Trust me, I WILL be trying it out. The staff are friendly and there are lots of smiles (will they stand the test of time?) I suppose there might be some explaining to do when your child finds out that the burger they enjoyed was the mummy of the calf they were just petting :/ I will be checking Swithens Farm out again so expect an update.

Despite some high hopes, Swithens Farm didn't live up to that goal. There was very little fruit and veg available (half a box of Apples, a few lettuces and some sprouts was about it). If you are able to use the stairs I would advise it, the lift takes one minute and thirty seconds, I sometimes feel Cosy Club's have a competition to have the slowest lift possible, I actually laughed when entering because they had a sign admitting the lift was so slow! The restaurant has a cool different yet funky Cosy Club vibe, the restaurant area is pretty spacious and comfortable, as well as a semi Open Kitchen. I decided to order my usual Cosy Club breakfast, sadly they refused to swap the tomatoes for an extra egg (They normally do this at their Manchester location), but I was able to get extra beans and swap the bacon for an extra sausage. I did enjoy my breakfast and it was cooked well, I appreciate how they did the toast very well done as this is how I enjoy it, the sausages were butchers quality, and the poached egg was also cooked well - I do think the plate should have a minimum of two eggs as one isn't enough, for me! The staff seemed mostly friendly other than the one incident previously mentioned, I would return here again as they have one of the best Breakfast/lunch menus in town for gluten-free food and pricing. 4* - I just wish they'd find a way to improve the lift and improve portion sizes/adaptions to match their other branches to help make the food more filling!

I love bao, but it came with two for an order so it was really filling. I was given a beeper when the food was ready then choose from a lot of seating options. The Arch Cafe only opened yesterday, it's run by Age UK and has been set up to bring in a bit of income to help support the work that Age UK does in Leeds, a bit of a social enterprise you could say. The (amazing!) cakes are homemade, the bread for the sandwiches is from the lovely Riverside Sourdough Bakery in Dock St Market, and I spotted some Nanaimo Bars made by the lovely local business Fayre By Alley. I'm sat here now scoffing as I type - I've got a ciabatta with tuna carrot and mayo with thai dressing, and it's lovely. I've also picked up a peice of the homemade lemon layer cake which is a huge doorstep and I can't wait to have a bite. In fact, hang on.... *scoffs*... mmm have just tried a bite and that is really something (excuse me yelping with my mouth full) So - yummy food? Check Lovely surroundings? Check Locally sourced? Check In aid of a good cause? Check So why not that fifth star? Quite simply, the pricing structure. Some items on the menu are well worth the cash - for example that massive slab of lemon loveliness I'm eating was £1.60 which I think is very reasonable. However the sandwich was £3.25 (take out price, eat in was £3.75), which I think is a bit steep, as is £3.50 for a bowl of soup (albeit homemade). At those kinds of prices it takes it out of the realms of affordability for somewhere I'd eat quite often on my lunchbreak, and turns it into somewhere I'd only really be able to go as a treaty lunch, maybe just after payday. But I'm hoping this is just a 'newly opened, finding it's feet' kind of issue, and I will absolutely definitely be going back again fairly soon. Red and yellow lettering, an M that could pass as a 'golden arch' and a bright, roomy interior all nod towards the American giant's restaurants. It's not just a rip-off of McDonald's for the sake of ripping off, however - it offers an American fast-food style menu, but all made with halal meat, something which Ronald surprisingly doesn't offer yet. Though the food is inspired by McDonald's, it's a lot greasier and more akin to that of the late night takeaway rather than the reputable (?) high street brand. It is cheaper in some areas however - you can get a full on burger meal deal for under £3, and similar bargains in the fried chicken range. There's an outdoor seating area but it's hardly picturesque, and the interior isn't as efficiently clean as it might be in the place Mahmood's is trying to emulate. Probably best to have one of these when you're hammered.
