I really love Brookdale Park! My best friend actually introduced me to this park when I was in…read moreundergrad, so I have some good memories here. I remember coming during the day when it was really quiet and almost empty. My daughter was able to play on the playground all by herself, which was kind of nice because she had the whole place to enjoy! Now, years later, I still find myself coming back to Brookdale Park. I walk and run here, and it's become one of my go-to spots for an outdoor workout. I especially enjoy walking in the evening. Funny enough, after all these years, this was actually my first time officially walking the entire park! There's so much space here. They have a running track, tennis courts, and pickleball courts. There's plenty of room for kids to ride their bikes, and there are open areas where people can play soccer, football, and other sports. I also love that there's plenty of grass and open space if you want to bring a blanket, have a picnic, or just sit and relax. There are also different events held throughout the year, which gives the park an even better community feel. Overall, Brookdale Park is just a really nice place to spend time. Whether I'm coming here to walk, run, exercise, relax, or spend time with family, I always enjoy being here. It's definitely a park I've appreciated over the years, and I'm happy to have made so many memories here.

The park reopened on June 26, 1997 with benches, play equipment, swings, a spray shower with fish ornamentation, a decorative floor medallion with signs of the zodiac, and a kiosk selling snacks with a separate seating area. For a small park in a busy area it feels safe and clean. There's also an AIDS memorial. Among the features is the fountain. It's a popular spot in the summer. The other main structure is the AIDS Memorial. It's dedicated to the victims of the disease. The park was the site of the hospital that played an important part in fighting and learning about it. A few parts of the hospital are still here. The oldest part was turned into apartments, while a newer part is a non emergency care location. If you're around Washington Square Park you should also make your way here. It's a nice park but it's also very meaningful. There's a few cafes and restaurants close to here too.

Braddock, a heavyweight boxing champion of the world who was raised in North Bergen. The trail surrounding Woodcliff Lake may not be the largest, but it is thriving with life. Several turtles and freshwater fish swim there. Feel free to walk, jog, or bring your domestic pet on the pathway. Bicycles, roller skating, and e-bikes are not allowed on the paths. If you prefer an alternative route, there is a nature trail that parallels with the lake. It will definitely give you the feel of being in a wilderness. Fishing is permitted in the lake, but a valid NJ freshwater fishing license is required. Visitors may rent a paddle boat or kayak if they wish to sail the lake. Multiple benches are stationed throughout the park. Feel free to grab any available seat. Everyone is also welcome to bring their own lounge chair or blanket if they prefer to have a seat on the grass. If you get hungry, Playa Bowls and Rumba's Cafe are conveniently located near the lake. They are open all year round and have both indoor and outdoor seating. A fairly large playground is on site for younger children. They may play on the jungle gym, swing set, or dual zip line. There is also a water park next to the playground. It is not an actual pool, but a highly advanced splash pad with water arches and animated sprayers. This will come in handy during the warmer seasons. There are a couple parking lots in the park, but a majority of the visitors park on the street. As parking space seems limited, I would highly recommend using public transportation to commute to the park. The park was originally named after Brooklyn borough President Joseph Guider. In fact, there is a sculpture at the South side of the park remembering him. The park was named after Dr. McNair in 1986, the same year as the Challenger disaster. Towards the North side of the park there are benches and tables, and there are benches along the side of the park. The very south tip is actually fully enclosed by a fence, which is helpful if you are bringing a dog here, or a toddler who likes to run around. Or if you want to play the trumpet[3]. What I really like is the magnolia and cherry trees in this park. During COVID, when the Brooklyn Botanic Garden across the street was closed, the trees in McNair Park were the closest thing to the cherry blossom blooming festival/Sakura Matsuri you could get in Brooklyn. During the time they were in blossom in the spring of 2020, the cherry trees and magnolia trees at McNair Park provided a reminder that, in stressful times, you can still find beauty, peace, and an opportunity to just relax, albeit temporarily, next to home. ------------------ [1] Guion S. It was built on a steep incline, which I surely felt as I was walking uphill on Cathedral Parkway and it was surely strenuous physical activity. There are outlook posts via stairs that fends a cliff-like towering view where visitors pause to intake a scenic views from above street level. These stairs are not ADA accessible. There are benches. The grounds are clean and peaceful. My visit was a fleeting moment in passage of my travels. It awoken my spirit to be grateful to be alive to see nature's beauty. My favorite are weeping willow trees which are beautiful and ultimate picturesque scenic for landscaping beauty, but to no avail. There are giant rock boulders that serve as fence or border. On Saturdays there is a outdoor farmers market. There is a bronze sculpture "Alfred Lincoln Seligman Fountain," by Edgar Walter dedicated 1914 depicting a bear leaning on rock hunting its prey with faun sheltering below and a adjacent plaque located north 114th Street and Morningside Avenue, at the foot of the stairway. What more could one ask for? As I was putting away the torn apart chicken carcass from Acme (which was delicious btw), I saw an orange helicopter fly by, release blue smoke, and a crowd of people on the dock go CRAZY.
