CGS is nine years old and is graduating their first class of 8th graders in 2014. All will go to the best high schools in Chicago. Class sizes are small, all under 15, so your child will get more attention. That is what we feel we are paying for. From the first grade, your child will have more than one teacher who is teaching their specialty. Another plus. Our headmaster, Mr. Jackson comes from a special needs background, so it is an excellent choice if your child is smart, but has some challenges. Our daughter she needs a lot of repetition. With the small class sizes, she is getting that at CGS. We had her tested this summer and discovered that even though she was in the "lower" groups for reading and math, she is reading more than two grades above level and her math was also above grade level after only one year at the school. The fact a child reading over two grades above grade level was in the lower group, also speaks about the student quality. If you want your child challenged, this is the place. If you want to go to work and brag how your child is a straight A student and the smartest in their class. Good luck at CGS. Now to why this school is not for you. We are in an office building. If looks matter, go to British, Cook or Parker with their beautiful campuses. Sports, we do not have a volleyball or basketball team. This apparently is a big deal to many in Chicago at the elementary level and why some parents do not choose CGS or use as an excuse to leave. At CGS, the parents make sports happen, We have the only traveling snow sports club with its own ski school at any school in Chicago, a Taekwondo Grand Master teaching in our after school program as well as weekly yoga and swim club in our after school program. Other student are excelling in hockey, figure skating and golf outside of school. So we are a very sports conscious and active school. There is a music school upstairs that will pick up your child from after school for their lessons. How great is that. We are a private, for profit school. What does that mean. To me, the best part of all, no giving fund or annoying fundraisers. Both my spouse and I are self employed and have work commitments 7 days a week. We do not have the time to sell chocolate or make things for an auction like was expected at our daughter's former school. Your tuition might seem higher than your friends at FXW, Old St. Mary's or Urban Prairie, but they have "mandatory" giving and/or significant pressure to make large purchases at their fundraisers, so in the end we are about the same. There is no other school in Chicago we would rather be at, my only wish is we had a High School :-)

My children were constantly dirty upon pick up. I constantly would walk in on teachers texting on their cell phones, having innapropriate conversations in front of children, using swear words to and about the children. They were not friendly. My child did not like a teacher and didnt want to be around them at all and i couldn't understand why. Behaviors changed completely. This place is horrible please do not send your children there.

We had heard many good things about St. Lucia both from family and neighbors so I decided to drop in to check it out. The principal, a former student of the school, was very welcoming and informative. I went home with the hope that my hubby would also agree that this school would be good for our child. We decided it would be worth a shot and enrolled her this year 2012-2013. The school has been nothing short of amazing. The classroom sizes are reasonable and the staff is very committed. My daughter is already reading half way through the school year. They have a great parent organization that is very involved and plan great events for the school and the community. All in all I hope we can keep my daughter here and we also hope my son will attend this school when he reaches school age.

His classroom was right by an exit to the playground and he would run out and that's the reason why they told me he couldn't attend any more, as well as his aggression towards other kids. If he's running out the door, isn't that a problem on the staff's behalf? For people who deal with kids, I figured they would know kids could be aggressive at times, especially a 2 year old. How do they not know how to deal with that? Because of his behavioral issues I suspected they were mistreating him. He stopped napping and he loves naps. As a result, I would pop up at random times and he was always in a high chair. I believe they had him there for extensive amounts of time. He was isolated from his class and unoccupied. She's always playing with the other kids when we come to get her and she always seems so happy. She learned to crawl there by watching other babies and learned to love books. They have an open door policy which is great because we love to see her whenever we can. I will say there have been some instances where my daughter came home with dry food on her face and hair and all over her clothes and one instance where her diaper was not put on properly and she peed herself. Which obviously made us angry and every time we address it with Ms. Katrina, the director, it gets addressed and does not happen again. We don't look to create issues but when something doesn't look right in the care of our daughter, my husband and I address it and they put our concerns to ease without issues. Do I recommend this daycare? Yes. I feel so comfortable knowing my daughter is there enjoying herself with all the toys, books, and baby couches and she has a lot of space to crawl which she loves. Since those issues, nothing like that has happened again. My daughter has come home with a clean face and hair and clothes and she doesn't cry when we drop her off and she always looks to be enjoying herself while there. It's very secure in the federal building and even the daycare does drills like the rest of the building. It's going to be sad when my daughter has to leave at 15 months.

There are actually 3 locations, this one is for the kids up to 15 months, and then they go to 78 West Van Buren, where you can park for drop off for both. I think many people think this is only for federal employees but anyone can use this daycare, and it has the best prices for great care. It is accredited and they take wonderful care of the children. My son had food allergies, which made me so nervous about the daycare situation, but they were so wonderful about it. There has never been an issue. Just wanted to share my positive experience with CCC.
