I had a very disappointing experience here due to misleading pricing and an attempt to force an…read moreundisclosed "mandatory tip." The price board clearly stated $40 for a 60-minute body massage. My companion and I each received 2 hours, which comes out to $160 total ($40 x 4 hours). This is straightforward math. At checkout, we were suddenly told the total was $260, because they claimed there is a required $20 tip per hour per person -- something that is NOT posted anywhere, not on the wall, not at the front desk, not on the website, and not communicated beforehand. That is not how tipping works -- especially in NYC. Tips are voluntary, not mandatory, and certainly not something that can be invented at checkout. If there is a service charge or mandatory gratuity, it must be clearly disclosed upfront. This felt dishonest and predatory. What makes this worse is that I was already planning to leave a 25% tip, bringing the total to $200, which is more than fair. Instead of appreciating that, they attempted to pressure us into a 50% per hour per person tip, based on rules they made up on the spot. This experience completely overshadowed the massage itself. I would not recommend this place unless you want to argue over pricing and be put in an uncomfortable situation at the end. Transparency matters -- and this business does not have it.

Go down, make a left, and you find yourself in a sedate and comfortable large foyer with 8 reclining foot massage easy chairs, and a staff of friendly, English speaking, skilled folk who's pleasure it is to provide excellent foot massage treatments. This is the traditional Chinese style of reflexology. It begins with a hot foot soak in a wooden bucket, that continues with a 15 minute neck, shoulder and upper back massage (as strong as you like it). Afterwards, you can recline in the over large chairs and have your footsies stroked, prodded and poked to release all that pent up stress that most of us carry below the ankles. It was so good that I fell asleep for a while and was only awakened by a particularly penetrating knuckle into my tender sole. I think my masseuse did that purposely to have me stop snoring, but regardless, the overall experience was exactly what I wanted. The basement also has a number of private massage rooms, but I did not have time for a full body massage after my tootsies received their TLC. Maybe, next time.
