Had lunch there on Sunday. We felt it was not as good as last year. I was disappointed in the beef and mushrooms. The beef was not as tasty as it was before. It was tough, maybe we not long enough in the corn starch? The other dishes were not hot. At 20 bucks per person, we're not sure if we'll be going back. We did go there a lot, but we may have to try somewhere else. The lady that is in charge is very nice but we'll have to think about going there again. read more

We were hungry around 5:00 and were surprised to find this restaurant already a quarter full when we arrived.  My wife is Chinese and doesn't normally like "Canadian Chinese buffet" but she really enjoyed this one. The staff were friendly and nice.  The buffet had a good selection and everything was fresh and refilled quickly.  We enjoyed the buffet but next time we go back will probably order off the menu because there were more traditional Chinese dishes on the menu that weren't on the buffet. read more

This used to be our "go to" for Chinese food. The last few times it has not been as good. Tried again last night and it was horrible. All of the meat in the dishes was hard and stringy. Couldn't eat the ginger beef or sweet and sour pork. The rice was some strange yellow colour that it had never been before. Everything fairly cold when used to be piping hot. We order Chinese Food most Sunday evenings and have ordered from most of the different restaurants in the Comox Valley. Last Sunday we tried East Kitchen, it was the best we have had this year. I found this restaurant to be a bit over priced for the quality you got. The buffet, although larger then the competition, I didn't find the food to be more than average in taste. Selection was so-so. That's because the buffet does bring in the customers, and dishes run out very fast. So it's limited. I just found another Chinese restaurant in Courtenay that I prefer more. read more

We went for for first time for Chinese New Year. We enjoyed the performance, but I'm not sure I would come back for the food. I had to ask for a menu, which took several minutes (I'm not sure if they only ever do buffet and take out here)- and they only had a paper take out menu. Two different servers said it would take too long if I ordered off the menu (they really did NOT want me to order off the menu, I felt pressured not to), so I ended up giving in and did the buffet. I'm really picky with Chinese food, as I'm originally from Vancouver. I think given being in the Comox valley, I can forgive not being offered chopsticks (which are disposable and can be found in the buffet, if you're interested), but that's still one of my pet peeves. I was not a fan of the ginger beef, the sauce seemed to be missing ginger in it (I guess it might have a small amount of powdered ginger, no minced ginger at all), the overall flavour was just sweet. The schezuan dishes were good- green beans and the squid. The barbecue pork was sad, it had no flavour other than sweet- you should be able to taste the char Sui marinade, and some sort of barbecue flavour. I'm not sure if they have adjusted their seasoning for a mainly senior population- it was in general pretty bland. I wish there was an email for the manager, or I would have done that instead of post a review. I won't be back. read more

Very disappointed. Ordered BBQ pork steamed buns, they stuffed as little pork in the buns as possible, not very flavourful. $6 for 4 buns, can get better at Costco. The Minced Chicken corn soup had virtually no chicken, and I'm certain they used no-name brand cream corn. $12 for the small, it's not even worth $5. Extremely poor value, sub-par quality. read more

I recently pulled up to East kitchen , immediately upon exiting my vehicle I was told very rudely that I was Parked in the restaurants parking spot and was told I wasn't allowed to park there ,( by the Owner , I asked him if it was his restaurant)he did not inquire my destination at all just told me rudely I couldn't park there I asked him again if it was his establishment which waved his arms and said"duh....yeah!" The owner is great, spoke to him and he's very down to earth and extremely understanding. We actually arrived just before closing and they were happy to serve us, and the food was really good with nice portions. Would have given it 5 stars but the last time we ordered delivery the food was pretty meh. read more

Looking for an alternative. Had take out there many times over the last 3 years and since the first time prices have risen a few times and the portions have been reduced. Also the 10 % off for pickup over a certain price was NOT given on the order at least once - possibly twice. Good food but don't like just plain greed !! read more

Wonderful lunch buffet. We have been 3 X's . Plan on going many more times and we live in Qualicum Beach. Great selections of Dim Sum and Cantonese Cinese dishes. Desserts were tasty also. Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

The manager there has Horrible customer service, I ordered takeout a dinner for 3 from their pamphlet menu and didn't get what I ordered. so I called and he told me the dinner for 3 was a typo and It should read dinner for 4. he said I should read the menu right next time! Then he argues with me over the phone about me not getting almond chicken and rice. Because that's what I thought I was ordering. He told me is my fault I didn't read the typo. I was surprised! I was expecting a typical buffet but found that everything exceeded my expectations. The selection was broad, the quality was excellent, service was cheerful and engaging too. So often at buffets, the server visits are far and few between. We just had water with our meals and even then, they came back every few minutes to check up on us. The servers are lots of fun. Wontons are made in house, as are the deserts. The selection was so extensive that I will have to go back for more in the near future! I'm looking forward to checking out their dim sum buffet as well. I haven't had dim sum for years! read more

A friend took me to the Dim Sum Buffet today - it was great! A decent selection of yummy Dim Sum items (loved the Shu Mai and the Sticky Rice). Their standard buffet was well stocked as was the dessert buffet. Really enjoyed the spicy squid - nice crispy tempura type coating. Service was excellent - I'll be going back. I went to East Kitchen as part of a group - Earthsave all vegan meal. The offered menu looked terrific, but when I saw the one poor review I was hesitant about attending. Thank goodness I went anyway! To begin, the service was wonderful - lots of staff who were there throughout, smiling & eager to serve. No waiting or forgotten requests. Empty buffet items quickly refilled with fresh food. Huge selection of items. The food was fabulous. Fresh, not canned. Vegetables not overcooked - brightly coloured. If the reviewer believed the food tasteless perhaps that was because it was not MSG enhanced. The flavours were complex & true. For instance, a sweet & sour sauce to go with tempura mushrooms was homemade, full of pieces of pineapple & sweet red pepper. I was eating it on its own it was so delicious. Our whole group of over 50 people were excited about this dineout. I ate so much, had three platefuls, plus two soups. There were so many dishes to choose from, I was not able to even try them all. I expected to have indigestion after all the yummy tempura, but, surprisingly just felt replete & satisfied. A most memorable meal. I will certainly be going back. This new eatery is an exciting addition to dining possibilities in The Valley. read more
