Joe at Earthworks was the first to respond. I had four outfits visit the job site and provide quotes. Joe's quote came in right in the middle of the pack, and he could schedule me the next week. And he very much seemed to be on the same page for what I was trying to accomplish. He and his crew just departed. They showed up on time, and took the time estimated. They were very careful around my landscaping, and did a great job of the tree work. They have completely cleaned up and left my yard in great shape. My front garden now will get the light it needs, and bigger than that, I now have a year round view of the Blue Ridge from my front porch. Stay away from Earthworks. Each time I look over at our meadow covered with tree trunks and branches I'm furious over their lying about our verbal agreement. "Around here we just need a handshake" we were told when we noticed that some of what the worker said was not on the contract. We'll be here until your happy with our work.". They were long gone when they got their money, promising to be "back the next day. When my phone call was finally answered by Joe, the owner, he told me I was a "f.....ing liar. The Earthworks team was great! We needed two mature birch trees trimmed and supported so they wouldn't threaten the house, and we wanted several ugly Virginia pines removed to provide room and light for nicer-looking trees (sourwood, maples, and tulip poplars mostly). They showed up with a team of six and some very capable machinery and worked their tails off all day long. They were very capable, professional, knowledgeable, and safety conscious.
