On the outskirts of Braintree, nestled between two petrol stations, you would be forgiven for thinking that earnest Doe was only for tradesmen not accessible to the general public. This would be a shame if it were the case, fortunately it is not and anyone can buy there! Earnest Doe sells basically anything you could want for you garden or agricultural plot including footwear and jackets to be out in the garden in! I go there for calor gas refills, but often find myself buying extra bits and bobs. Staff are very approachable and will offer excellent advise on a range of matters/ queries, be it pest control or the best tool to use on your veg plot. In these days of increasing self sufficiency, I can see this store being used more and more! read more

Old school gem of a store. Basically a farmer's merchant I guess but capable of turning up that gardening or outdoor item that you thought you would never find. Bit hard to see how they keep going these days but definitely a place to visit to savour the retail experience and a good helping of customer service. read more
