They have interesting crockery, cushions and tea towels that would look right at home in any renovated Stoke Newington kitchen and pretty frilly knickers perfect for all the swingers parties I am certain go on here. The accessories are very cool too, they had some very reasonably priced pieces when I popped in last time, my favourite being the jigsaw map badges. Another thing worth noting is that they are on the look out for new designers, so its a perfect place for the all aspiring arty types in the area to showcase their wares.

If I opened a shop, I would probably sell exactly the same sorts of things-…read morehandmade ceramics, crafty reworked vintage items for the home, jewellery, accessories and cards. Leather bags, cushions, personalised cufflinks and unusual crockery all make beautiful, if not slightly over-priced gifts. Located in a tiny, shed-like building down a side street off Stoke Newington Church Street, I would most certainly have missed the shop had it not been for the Alice in Wonderland style shop directions at the top of the road. It is a beautiful little place but their opening hours are a little restrictive and I never seem to find it open!

Maybe it's unfair of me to review this shop considering that I've only visited it once and that was…read moreon the last Saturday before Christmas. However, taking this in to account I would still say that their floor plan is a nightmare. Trying to get from one side of the shop to the other involved taking a series of routes, turning back on oneself a few times and eventually just giving up. Much like the other Gill Wing shops along Upper Street there is just far too much stuff in here to make it easy to navigate. Nonetheless, the stock in this shop is quite nice and especially good if you are buying a present for a friend that likes to garden. There were two whole sections devoted to designer trowels and the like. There is also quite a nice selection of kids toys in here if you can fight your way to the back of the shop. Although this shop is a bit pricey I would still recommend it to someone that was struggling to find a gift or a couple of stocking fillers. Just make sure you choose a good time to visit- when it gets busy in here you'll know about it!

No problem, you'll find something in Gill Wing. -You receive a last-minute invitation to a bridal/baby/housing-warming shower. Oh s**t! No problemo, you can pick something up in a hurry from Gill Wing. -You are a super-procrastinator and only find time to buy gifts because your plane flight was cancelled. Again. Oh s**t! Not to worry, you'll have plenty of extra time to find the perfect gift and more at Gill Wing. This is your everyday and anything but everyday gift shop where no matter for whom you're searching, you find something. Anything. Chocolate, tea pots, children's toys, fuzzy hot water bottles... next time you're having an oh s**t moment, head here immediately. In fact I think they should make that their slogan: "Gill Wing. Perfect for those everyday 'oh s**t' moments!" Yeah?

    London Fields, Broadway Market

Located on…read moreBroadway Market, Brewode is a small store that you may miss if you blink (Possibly because it does not have much in the way of signage). The owner, Louise, is a sweet lady who enjoyed having a chat with me. In previous years she has been on the committee for the Broadway Saturday market, but now has more time to spend in her shop. I was after a present for a special friend and I went to the right place. I picked up a little rose plant in a lovely rustic white painted tin. The mini rose plant is just an example of the kind of things that the shop has to offer. Brewode is open from Tuesday to Saturday 12pm til 6pm, and Sunday from 12pm til 4pm.

Maybe it's different for everyone who goes in there, I wanted coffee but someone else might want jam... it's a mystery! Anyway after pottering around Broadway Market, we wanted to go into a cafe without having to fight skinny, flannel wearing douchecanoes for a seat. Brewode's Cornucopia is a little too 'twee teashop' and not enough 'ironic, overpriced hipster coffeebar' so it was emptyish. We got cupcakes and coffees and sat amongst the cutesy teacups and polka dots for a while. I wouldn't say the service is stellar. This ain't yo grandma's teashop. Two big burly man types make the tea and serve the Victoria sponge. The owner seems nice though, I asked to use the bathroom and she said that it was a health and safety issue and one of the burlies would have to accompany me down the stairs. She asked him would he take me there and he said 'no'. Right then. That's okay, I didn't really need to go. Honest.
