Not much to do here, not many restaurants or stores but again it is the unplugging from the noise. They hand out a day coupon to the rec center which we did not use. This park has nice clean restrooms, the grounds are well groomed and staff is always keeping up with cleanup. Hard working staff. So if you want your kids to walk around, this is the place. Can't say the walking trail is smooth for a wheelchair, might be a challenge in some locations due to buckling. Train rumble is pretty much nonstop so bring earplugs if needed. No train horn. I found the rumble relaxing & comforting. Rocked me to sleep. Huge camping areas, so with that said, bring Elon or your internet provider of choice, breathtaking views of river. Keep tabs on your husband fishing! Fish jumping at dusk is pretty awesome to watch.

There are…read morestunning views everywhere you turn, so many picnic tables, and plenty of trees for shade at the top, there are restrooms, and the trail has different experience levels. It's a pretty beginner friendly hike going down to the first part and then from there, you can decide if you want to continue. You definitely need to be more experienced when you reach the sharper edges. There was a Ranger on site and I can honestly say I've never seen anyone do their job with such enthusiasm or efficiency in my entire life. I didn't even interact with them, but you could tell from every task they truly cared.

It's kind of in the middle of nowhere...wouldn't have come upon it most likely had the hubby not seen note of it on a waterfall blog. First impression, the grounds are pristine. Perfectly manicured grasses scattered with picnic tables. Restrooms...extremely clean. There's a decent amount of parking near the restrooms/upper falls, as well as some right off the highway. A genius idea really, they made a now ghostly, obsolete hydroelectric power plant into a park. You can hear the upper falls as soon as you pull up, running hard and fast right now! You get great views from the overlook at the end of the lot, which is very accessible to most anyone. From there you can take the trail down to peek into the rusty, old ruins of the plant, as well as further down to another smaller, but still impressive falls. Heads up though, the trail down is NOT accessible to everyone. The footing is loose and fairly steep. BUT, if you can at least get down to the overlook above the old building do it...the view of the upper falls from that point is extraordinary. Really a gorgeous falls, much more than I expected. Just a great park, I highly recommend a visit to this one!

Mary and Wayne were incredibly helpful and accommodating of our family, as this was our maiden voyage! The place is well lit, but not intrusively so. The bathrooms are clean and have a shower area inside. It was a bit to cold and windy to swim so we took full advantage of the park and playground while we were here! We had a peaceful, pleasant stay here for two days and nights, and are looking forward to returning.

We are scheduled to come back in Sept for 3 night and are looking forward to it.

Absolutely frustrating as could be of a situation and the park rangers and staff never once apologized. Not only did they not apologize but they also didn't compensate us whatsoever when a bunch of our belongings were destroyed due to their sprinkler system. Moral of the story is avoid staying here because the staff isn't considerate even when they ruin your trip. I have seen other reviews of this park that have experienced the same thing, again not sure why they have sprinklers running at 9pm inside your campsite.

Then came the trucks, all night they climbed that two-mile stretch of road, Their engines moaning, gear by gear, beneath their heavy load. You'd hear them grind in agony, ascending toward the stars, While down below, the campers dreamt of buying hybrid cars. But mercy fled the morning when those trucks came down again -- The Jake brakes sang their diesel hymns across the river plain. For minutes on end, the echoes roared -- a basso, blaring suite, A three-minute truck-fart fugue in thunderous repeat. The tent pegs rattled, spoons took flight, the coyotes packed and ran, The herons left for Idaho, and so did half my plan. I stared up through the canvas roof, eyes wide and sleepless still, And whispered through my pillow: "Lord... deliver Maryhill." The campsite spots were relatively spacious and the sites are spread out. It was a bit windy as we expected but super comfortable weather for our night. Lots of bathrooms and everything is well kept up. Did wish the showers were closer to the tent camps, so did not bother using them. We hiked a bit on the Rivertrail, easy trail on the lower loop. Very enjoyable with river views Would definitely stay here it's only $10 a night. I will mention that the train does go by there, but I didn't think it was very loud at all and didn't seem to go by that often as others have commented on. I think it probably went by every hour or two. Had a great stay!

Lovely setting...but way too loud to stay overnight…read more Decided to stay at the campground while exploring the area. The setting of the campground is really pretty, and felt quite peaceful until dark. I'd noticed the sign on the info board warning of noise. But honestly I assumed it would be the normal passing train noise we always experience when staying along the gorge. But this location was something different...train whistles were sounded throughout the entire night. No sleep was to be had for me here. Regardless, we prepped to roam the trails that morning. While I didn't have big expectations when we started off along the river we really ended up enjoying the trails. The hillsides around the Deschutes provide a simply stunning landscape. There are multiple, parallel levels of trails from which to choose. We opted to take about 5 miles round trip, starting on the lowest trail and looping back via the next level up. The trails are narrow & winding, with uneven surfaces. On that sunny day it was very serene, with only the sounds of the river and birds. I wouldn't consider using the campground again, simply due to the train whistles. The sites weren't at all private, some level/some not...but all with nice river views. I would definitely recommend use of the trail system, however.

Was so surprised and delighted by the incredible views of the basalt cliffs across the way, and of course, close up views of the magnificent Columbia River. There is an area under the trees with picnic tables, a perfect spot to gather for a meal after a nice walk or hike. Plenty of parking, great views, peaceful and serene - a gem.

Albeit a cold December day, we only saw a couple of cars come and go while we were there. From signage it appears to be a good windsurfing area at other times of the year, so I'm sure it gets much busier. Nice little stop-off along the gorge for a view, a stretch, or a picnic.

The views of the Columbia River and the Gorge are spectacular. Look across to the basalt cliffs of Washington and the Syncline. In addition to wind surfing, you can walk the gravel trail to Mosier Creek or along the railroad tracks. The park covers 20 acres. In the parking area there is a grassy area with few picnic tables, a covered gazebo and a porta john. This is a day use park, fee is $5 a day or an annual pass for $50. Pay at the kiosk so bring cash and a pen to fill out the form. Located in Mosier (exit 69 on I-84, look for signs for the Mosier Twin Tunnels. On the way you will see a gravel parking area with an iron gateway and a sign on top that says Rock Creek Access. It's next to the water facilities. If you reach the entrance for the Mosier Twin Tunnels you have gone too far.

There is even a small, very small, playground area for little kids. There are beach / river access areas but I didn't see any lifeguards. If you aren't from this area, be aware of the extremely high wind speeds and currents. I'd recommend just dipping your feet, not swimming! There is plenty of parking, even on the busiest days. Located off exit 85 on I-84, just minutes from downtown The Dalles, the Riverfront Park is open Memorial Day through October 31st, Dawn til dusk.
