Karin and Matthias are the owners of this home. They are a sweet couple from Sweden. Every morning you're greeted with a wonderfully made breakfast from Matthias, who use to be a chef. He makes these delicious plates to die for! Every night you're welcome home to a beautifully cleaned bedroom in their home. There are three bedrooms each with their private bathrooms and a king/queen size bed. Always freshly made. I have been to this bed and breakfast twice now and I will never go anywhere else. It is located within walking distance from the town centre and surrounded by beautiful scenic mountains. This is an awesome little romantic bed and breakfast getaway for any couple. This place is also per friendly so you can bring your furry little pals along with you for the trip. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back again.

Upon arriving, we were fortunate enough to be welcomed by the lovely Sara Renner and her gracious husband, Thomas Grandi. Chocolates from a local business, Le Chocolatier, were an unexpected surprise waiting in our room - the salted caramel in milk chocolate was so good I was prompted to find the little shop up on Benchlands Trail to buy some more. We stayed in the Cabin Suite, which is a quiet, spacious and comfortable 2-bedroom suite on the main floor with a firm king bed and choice of synthetic or down pillows. There is also a separate bedroom with a double/single bunk, which would be perfect for kids or another family staying with you, as long as you're close because the king bed is open to the living space. There is one large bathroom and I enjoyed the separate shower's pebble floor and the soaker tub. The self-serve breakfast is plentiful with daily fresh baked bread and muffins, an egg frittata, super easy orange juicer, yogurt, in-house made granola, and fruit. Then there is the Miele coffee machine! Your choice of coffee (lungo, cappuccino, espresso, latte, etc.) at the push of a button - I made a mocha each morning with 2 spoonfuls of hot chocolate mix and a press of the double-shot macchiato button...delicious! The machine is available for use at any time. The staff are wonderful. Jonathan at the front desk is helpful with any need you may have in the kitchen or otherwise. Canmore is his hometown, so he is knowledgeable about the area, hiking trails, back country skiing, etc. Chef Shannon whipped-up the delicious breakfast each morning and is a great conversationalist with a warm personality and wonderful sense of humour. If you're an early riser like me, it's great to be able to make yourself a good cup of coffee and have a visit in the kitchen. All in all, our stay at the Paintbox Lodge was terrific. I highly recommend staying here and am looking forward to the time we return.

Can park right in front to unload and then there are exactly enough parking spots for each room to have 1 spot. Parking pass given upon check-in. Late check-in (after 10PM) available. Room looks dated but bed was fine. 2 single beds upstairs, 1 queen bed downstairs. TV has Netflix. Shower does not drain. Sink was chipped. Lots of tables, chairs, a desk in the room. Fan in room, A/C was there but with a crank window no way to attach it to the window/prevent hot air entering. Rooftop hot tup was 10/10 great - first come first serve. Opens at 9AM and with checkout at 11AM was able to get 1 more dip in before we checked out. Service was poor. Staff never asked how we were, how the stay was. Breakfast service was short and after she delivered the food never ever came back. She got my order wrong, but since she never came back I didn't have the chance to ask for a correction. Saturday - chai pudding appetizer and then sunny side up egg on 1/2 bagel with cream cheese, fresh spinach, fresh tomato, covered in hollandaise sauce. Sunday was egg bite appetizer with French toast with berry compote. Food itself was decent just wish the service was more welcoming, took order correctly, and easier to make substitutions. Coffee was super weak, orange juice was super weak and tasteless. Variety of hot teas was excellent. No fresh fruit available. Would loved a banana to just be offered or available. Was hoping for a more warming feeling, maybe fresh muffins/cookies, fresh made bread, better service. For the price I'd rather stay a hotel where the attendant actually asks how the stay was and how the guests are doing.

Each morning we only had to go upstairs to a beautiful delicious breakfast and had our choice of homemade breakfast items (eggs, meats, etc), fresh baked bread, French toast, fruit, juice, and coffee. Absolutely delicious and a beautiful view of the mountains from the breakfast table. Carmelo and Anneke were very accommodating and let us use their phone to make local calls, gave us their bear spray to borrow while we were out in the parks (just in case), loaned us a detailed map, and told us all the best drives and and places which fit our travel goals. They had lots of detailed information to give to their guests and know the area very well as they have lived there many years. This was the perfect place for people going to the Banff area because it is minutes from the park gates. I would return to this little bit of paradise in a second.

Looks like a century got transposed. The bar is fun, with locals and tourists mixing and pool, foozball,etc...Truthfully, the charming exterior belies the mundane experience on the interior. But its a nice little stop on a long travelled road.
