It first started for us looking for a pre-K during Covid as a need, but instead it turned into gaining a whole community of friends that we adore. Since we are not the most religious in terms of being Christian or Catholic, some of the private schools in the area had too much focus on religion. Others pre-K schools felt as though we would have just been hiring a babysitter. Waldorf was a breath of fresh air, literally. The kids actually spend time outside in nature! Being kids, getting muddy, pretend play and learning about the wonders of our world. They focus on the whole child, not just academics and there are no grades, no tests, no homework and instead teach a love of learning. Not only that, they throw some really rad festivals and events for the kids - magical even! We are so blessed to have found a fun and safe place to call school.

We enrolled her in Olympia Waldorf trusting the promises of a nurturing environment, holistic education, community, and balance. What we actually experienced was chaos, lack of accountability, broken promises, and a lot of emotional strain. This school is nothing like what is advertised. Please do your research there are even documentaries that shed light on the reality. Sending my daughter here is one of my biggest regrets as a parent. I took a beginner woodworking workshop, with Joe as the instructor and loved it. Learning new things in general is fun and even though I have no future in carving wood because of my own lack of patience and skill, I would still take another class! The workshop was all day from 10-5, and the instruction was great, very informative, helpful, and patient. Emphasis on safety while treating us all like adults. High quality tools and equipment that were in great shape, and high quality materials and wood for us to work on. The classes here fill up really fast and there are wait lists for a lot of them. I believe the capacity was five students due to covid, but in the woodshop we were in, there were only six workstations anyway, so I'm guessing the normal class sizes are not big either. Lots of classes on the website and new ones seem to be listed regularly. There's a lot of workshops but I hope they offer more weekly classes. They didn't answer the phone during posted hours but are very responsive and friendly with email response. I'm really looking forward to trying out more here when more classes open up!

Arbutus Folk School always has a wide range of classes, including ceramics, blacksmithing, basketweaving, and other textile arts. There is a small gallery store too. They co-sponsor the Olympia Old Time Music Festival and other music concerts, classes, and a monthly open mike. It's a great place to take classes.

She is an excellent instructor and I got over my fears. She explained things clearly and was a calm person to drive with. I felt comfortable with her and learned a lot. After 4 lessons I took the drivers skills test and passed. This was a great experience and recommend Terri as an instructor.

The days have similar patterns and the kids respond well. There is plenty of free play, some circle time, art, more free play, stories read, etc. It is only a partial day program and not a full day daycare, but it's good for getting little ones of the house, and learning about the world without you. It is a church so there is a Christian element, and light bible education. I'm a fan and I know others that have or will go there with all of their children.
