They were putting down brand new sod yestereday, and adding new water lines to keep it alive. The large screens that were up were showing up coming events, and that was pretty dang awesome! The Shaded spots were plentiful, the covered benches were nice. And now across Orange lake, they have some pretty walk ways and seating areas too. New Port Richey city services has really done a great job making Sims Park a jewel in the city's crown.

I've lived in this area of the County for 90% of my life and never knew this was here. I don't…read morethink it's been around all that long, honestly, but I could be wrong. ANYWAY. Located off of Plathe road, this preserve is tucked off and hidden by the natural beauty of Florida scrub. The road that leads back to the preserve is dusty, but the left turn that I took led me to a park that had wandering trails through the Florida brush, over well constructed and planned out walk ways through the marsh and lakes, as well as an Eagle Scout's project of benches that provide plenty of seating. There are plenty of opportunities to walk, run, hike, bike, play on the play ground, photograph the wild life or just BE. Speaking of the playground: It's lovely, with a path all for the kids that tells them a story, a path to literacy, which in truth is very important in this state. There is also a Free little library here, so if you have books you'd like to share, bring one or 15 to leave or take one, they're there for you to have or give. I'm so going back to the JEG preserve, to hide rocks or just to practice being present. You should too.

Werner Boyce's entrance fee is based on the Honor System: $3 per vehicle, $2 for hiker/cyclist, & $4 w/ a debit/credit card payment. Use a blue envelope to drop your fee into the payment station, & place the envelope's stub on your vehicle's dash. (Visitors can even pay w/ a check made out to Dept. of Environmental Protection.) The park includes 4 miles of coastal water on the Gulf of Mexico. According to the website, park goers will enjoy hiking, birdwatching, boating, fishing, picnicking & wildlife watching. There's a half mile hiking trail & a picnic pavilion; I counted six tables & a few grills. Beside the parking lot, visitors will see the kiosk; there were no park maps available today even though today was Day 1 after reopening. During normal times there is a kayak rental, although there is no boat ramp. Group camping & primitive camping will be available (again) in the near future. Trees & shrubs are labeled, the creeks/springs are gorgeous, & signs warning of alligators are plentiful. (I fear gators, unfortunately.) No net fishing or swimming @ this park. I enjoyed the sign that states that scuba diving is also not allowed. Scuba diving??? Lol. Will definitely return; it's too beautiful of an area not to!

I finally went to check out Robert K. Rees Memorial Park because I'd heard so many people talk…read moreabout it. I'm glad I went, but after seeing it for myself, I realized it's just not my kind of beach. The water was calm, families were happily swimming and letting their kids play, so it's clearly a place that a lot of locals enjoy. Just know that this is a natural Gulf Coast beach, so the water isn't crystal clear, and in some areas there's a soft, muddy bottom beneath the sand that you can feel as you walk. It did have its own charm in how peaceful and unhurried it felt. The boardwalk through the mangroves adds to the experience, and you might spot dolphins, manatees, stingrays, pelicans, herons, and other coastal birds. Sharks are part of the Gulf ecosystem, and although alligators are uncommon at this saltwater beach, they do occasionally wander into coastal areas from nearby freshwater habitats. Even though it wasn't the postcard-perfect beach I was looking for, I'm still glad I took the time to see it for myself.

This one is kind of hidden and it seems like the only people who know it is there are the ones whose kids have games on the fields. The playground is small, but it's clean and shaded. The ground is mulch. There are 3 slides, quite a few swings, including baby swings, picnic tables, a nice small pond to look at, and it's fenced in. There are monkey bars and a sliding bar as well. I definitely recommend going here. My daughter is 2 and keeps herself busy. She is always so upset when it's time to go home. Lol

It's more connected with multiple areas to play as oppose to the disjointed old metal dina-eye-sour that was here. They also added more swings as well as a joint toddler and adult swing combo which allows a parent to swing with their toddler that may be to scared to swing on their own. The trees have a canopy that provides shade but I wish these were cut back just a tad bit and a reflective overhang was placed to provide shade. In the peak of the Florida heat I'm sure the plastic will get very hot. The "rock climbing" wall is a nice addition. With so many different little nooks to explore I wish there was a water fountain placed within the play area that the little kiddos could reach to stay hydrated. Parents either have to bring their own (I always do) or drag/beg their kid to leave the play area and exit to the bathrooms where the water fountains are.

My back yard is almost as big as the only small grassy area that had a few trees, but my yard has birds, butterflies, more native plants and trees, much more enjoyable. The path was mostly sunny without shade. I walked around a lot because I wanted exercise, but ten minutes could cover the entire area even walking very slow. There are benches and a bridge that are nice but I don't plan to return. To me it was a waste of my time. I love nature and long walks so this was not for me.

Didn't see any wild flamingos there. As a matter of fact didn't see any wildlife there at all. As it's really just a dog park with some trails to walk your dogs. Not a great place to take photos. The dog park area is new & very nice thou if you have dogs. There is three different runs sectioned off, one for small dogs, one for large dogs & one for the med sized dogs.
