Deb climbed up and enjoyed the view from the lighthouse. For myself, my $12 admission fee was spent on touring the lighthouse keeper's cottage and enjoying the surrounding area. The grounds are well-maintained, just pretty as a postcard. The beach provided a lovely breeze on such a hot day. It is pretty much entirely made up of sharp seashells, so maybe don't attempt it barefoot. There is a short, rocky and uneven walk from the welcome center to the lighthouse. There is also a tractor with a trailer that can take people across, but to my understanding, it isn't always available. It was on the day we visited, but we opted to walk. The parking lot is pretty small. If you are visiting at a busy time, it might take a little while to find a spot. I think Cana Island Lighthouse is absolutely worth a stop if you are in the area.

I have heard that sometimes water level can be high that this causeway can be submerged. If you don't like walking, a tractor-drawn haywagon shuttle provided by the Door County Maritime Museum to reach the lighthouse is an option. When you get to Cana Island, you have to go first to the visitor center to be able to explore the island and go to the lighthouse. This visitor center also has some gift items here. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors. This lighthouse is cool. It is manned by two lighthouse keepers when we went there. The rooms of the previous keepers are preserved and you can see old items there. The climb to the top is 97 stairs. There is no elevator. The panoramic view from the top is nice but not the most beautiful. On one side, you can see the lake while another side shows the rest of the island. Overall, it's still a good experience to see though I would not say that it is a must-see.

They have completely rebuilt the fire tower adding an accessible ramp. While we are able to climb stairs, we enjoyed the ramp a great deal. I'm not a huge fan of open stairs and found this wide ramp that is intended for both wheelchair users and walkers to be a very pleasant way to reach the viewing platform and return to ground level. The view from the top is amazing on a clear day. We also walked part of the sunset bike trail as an out and back which was lovely. We started at the beach, headed toward the lighthouse and continued on to the bluffs/cliffs before turning around. It was about 6 miles round trip and had lots of wildflowers and beaches along the way. This is a great trail for anyone who doesn't want to navigate a lot of tree roots or rocks. Other updates: The lighthouse is being refurbished and is scheduled to reopen later in June 2026. There are now food trucks near the beach if you don't feel like bringing a picnic lunch!

To access the park, you have to pay a vehicle admission pass at the visitor center. Daily pass for out-of-state plates is $16. The rates are different for Wisconsin plates and senior citizens. 12-month pass is available as well. The small gift shop in the visitor center has magnets, stickers, paper weights, shirts, etc. There are also comfort rooms inside. It was raining when we visited. The rain stopped for a bit and we were able to see Eagle Bluff Lighthouse. We weren't able to go in the lighthouse because it was still early and not yet open. It was okay from the outside. We also went to see the Eagle Tower. Since it was raining and dark clouds were all over, we did not see the nice view that this spot is known for.

We DO NOT give refunds, rather we will gladly give you credit for use another time." Well, the proprietor may think their policy is simple and strict but fair, but making me accept the term on a click through does not make it so. After booking, I later went on the website and saw on their calendar that our tour was cancelled, although I never got an email or text saying the tour was cancelled. I called the tour company to rebook, didn't get anyone and left a message. I did get a callback later and we rescheduled to Thursday. It was windy on Tuesday and there were some whitecaps so cancelling seemed reasonable. Thursday there was little wind and the water seemed relatively tranquil. So we go to Baileys Harbor for our 3pm tour and see the tour boat, the Hope. I wasn't impressed on first sight. There was a fairly decent sized group lined up, about 15-20 people. We boarded and the tour guide / narrator and master captain (as he said) seemed pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable enough. If I heard correctly, the tour boat, the Hope is a former U.S. coast guard lifesaving boat from around 1980, and the narrator said it was "unsinkable". Hmmm, I recall a ship described as unsinkable... We got underway. It soon became apparent that a former U.S. coast guard lifesaving boat does not make a good tour boat. Everyone was seated on hard wood bench seats (with thin foam cushions) lining the inside sides of the boat and facing inward. The boats engine, a Detroit Diesel engine is in a large wood compartment right in the middle of the passenger area and is very loud, ranging from a measured from my seat 91-94 db (loud) while underway. As a result the narrator uses a PA system to be heard over the engine noise. There is also the smell of diesel fuel quite present on board. No restroom. Despite the lake appearing tranquil with maybe 3 foot waves at most, the boat's ride is very unstable, with the boat rocking to and fro and crashing over waves and spraying occupants on occasion despite the plastic screens up front. In fact, the motion of the boat was violent enough that mid-tour the amplifier for the PA system used by the narrator came loose from its ceiling mount location and loudly crashed on the deck! Luckily the large PA system amplifier didn't hit or hurt anyone, but it was useless after that and the narration was effectively over. Due to the rocking of the boat, the passengers needed to stay seated and hold on, moving about while underway wasn't possible. A passenger near me kept jokingly calling the boat the SS Minnow and said he saw a small water leak, which I didn't see. The tour itself primarily consists of loudly and slowly chugging out to the Cana Island lighthouse for about 45 minutes, staying around there for a minute for pictures and then chugging back to dock, with a drive by of the range lights on the way out and the birdcage lighthouse on the way back. Despite what the website says we did not see any shipwrecks, wildlife or other specific geological features, nor would I say the trip was relaxing or pleasant with the noisy, smelly boat crashing about. They really need a different, better, purpose built tour boat if this is the experience with only about 3 foot waves. Cannot recommend. Maybe if the lake water is like glass the experience would be a bit better.
