Deb climbed up and enjoyed the view from the lighthouse. For myself, my $12 admission fee was spent on touring the lighthouse keeper's cottage and enjoying the surrounding area. The grounds are well-maintained, just pretty as a postcard. The beach provided a lovely breeze on such a hot day. It is pretty much entirely made up of sharp seashells, so maybe don't attempt it barefoot. There is a short, rocky and uneven walk from the welcome center to the lighthouse. There is also a tractor with a trailer that can take people across, but to my understanding, it isn't always available. It was on the day we visited, but we opted to walk. The parking lot is pretty small. If you are visiting at a busy time, it might take a little while to find a spot. I think Cana Island Lighthouse is absolutely worth a stop if you are in the area.

They have completely rebuilt the fire tower adding an accessible ramp. While we are able to climb stairs, we enjoyed the ramp a great deal. I'm not a huge fan of open stairs and found this wide ramp that is intended for both wheelchair users and walkers to be a very pleasant way to reach the viewing platform and return to ground level. The view from the top is amazing on a clear day. We also walked part of the sunset bike trail as an out and back which was lovely. We started at the beach, headed toward the lighthouse and continued on to the bluffs/cliffs before turning around. It was about 6 miles round trip and had lots of wildflowers and beaches along the way. This is a great trail for anyone who doesn't want to navigate a lot of tree roots or rocks. Other updates: The lighthouse is being refurbished and is scheduled to reopen later in June 2026. There are now food trucks near the beach if you don't feel like bringing a picnic lunch!

Ben was fantastic on the acoustic guitar, excellent voice and sense of humor. It was a small group when we went but he still worked the crowd. The boat was clean and I appreciated that they had binoculars available in each bench seat so you could take advantage of seeing the sights. Ben also does some of the scenic tours so he threw in a few nuggets of info about the area in between songs but overall the focus was on the music and enjoying the views. Sunset was perfect! The all-in cost for us 2 seniors was $91.79. We boarded their boat named Quo Vadis and it has a capacity of 58 we were told. Betsy was our engaging and informative tour guide and she was a great local narrator and guide having been raised on nearby Chambers Island. From a nature and wildlife standpoint, we saw double-crested cormorants, white pelicans, a bald eagle, and a big eagle's nest along the way. Betsy added a lot of local color and flavor and trivia to the talk and it was just what I enjoyed hearing to gain more insight into this charming area. Big thumbs up and we would take another of their tours if we were up here at the right time and conditions again.

The tour wasn't overly expensive, so not a huge deal, but rather disappointed overall. We wouldn't take friends who come to visit us (we live in NE Wisconsin) on the tour as we can look at pretty views of the lake on our own.

I realize they dont control the weather but we didnt get the same value for the same money paid by folks lucky enough to have calm water. 3 shipwrecks? I wouldn't recommend the Death's Door Cruise if you get seasick, though, because Lake Michigan gets pretty choppy and changes rapidly. We met up with Nick very soon after our arrival on the SS Badger coming from Ludington. We have…read moreoperated Segway's numerous times, but still Nick was very thorough in his explanation and demonstration of safe operation. Then off we went. This was an excellent two hours. First, it was FUN! Beyond the fun it was informative. We had no idea of the historical significance of Manitowoc in terms of ship building and the war effort during WW I and WW II . This could easily be expanded to 3 hours by extending the ride along the waterfront all the way to Two Rivers, incorporating an optional stop at the bright pink ice cream shop! We did ride our bikes to Two Rivers and back. The Mariner's Trail is a lovely path this tour takes. Makes this excursion not just fun, but scenically beautiful as well. We highly recommend doing the Segway tour with Segway the Door.
