It is also very effective. My personal experience is that I came to the gym one year ago. I was using a four wheel walker and my strength and balance were poor. One year later I am now walking independently...and I don't need a nap after each class! The person that I hold responsible for this improvement is Jeff. He comes to the program with a strong background. He is dedicated to each of his boxers and is constantly working to improve the program and gym. He also spends a tremendous amount of time researching Parkinsons and is a wonderful resource. I can't thank Jeff enough for the difference he has made in my life.

The nurses and caregivers take the time to get to know all of the residents and it feels like family. They offer independent senior living, assisted living and memory care along with respite stay options and wellness plans. I love that this allows people to add services to meet their needs without requiring them to make a big move throughout the building. The life enrichment department does such a great job providing quality of life. I truly love this place!

Even the people who live in the regular part of the building will talk about how it's not the greatest there. It's good if you're with it and you're looking for a senior living independent place to live, but once you start needing assisted living and especially memory Care, it's terrible. And the food has gone downhill the last year. The trout and grouper replaced with catfish and tilapia.

They enjoyed the food, the facility and the events. So 5 stars in all of these important areas. The reason I bring them down to 3 stars is how two things transpired after we mentioned we'd be moving out: 1. I was at the apartment many times that final month helping with the move, and on 3 separate occasions the staff was inside the apartment poking around, unannounced. These were not caretakers doing well-being checks, rather it was administrative personnel. My mom had mentioned she did not feel secure there with her valuables and some of their staff. I had initially thought she was just being paranoid but this validated her concerns and made me uneasy. 2. I felt taken advantage of with the security deposit. There were 2 stains that were not huge or out of the ordinary. When I spoke to the maintenance guy about other things like touch-up paint he said "you don't have to worry about things like that here", making it sound like all was well. He and the director were whispering over near where the stain was, not disclosing how that was so major to them. Then upon moving out they said those 2 small stains would be $1200. I said that I could have professionals come by and remove it for a fraction of that and they said no, they had already tried a steam clean. Really? and those stains didn't come out? I asked why so much and they said that they ran out of that carpet so they'd have to re-carpet the entire apartment. How that is our fault is beyond me. It all just felt slimy and low-brow.

Here the facility and staff are top notch. It is modern, clean and well maintained and, most of all, the nurses and aids were fantastic. My needs were well cared for and the staff anticipated many of my needs. They even treated the "grumpy old men" (and there were lots of them) with care and polite understanding. The cleaning staff were "Johnny on the spot": I was amazed at how quickly and prompt they were at picking up and cleaning any mess. The food is good. I am not a connoisseur but was very happy with it. Each resident had an individual, but common, menu. The individual meals were tailored to each patients needs and desires. I was mildly surprised that when someone asked for additional items they were usually provided. Again, the dining staff were very friendly and accommodating. I had approximately 15 meals there and only one was disappointing. As most people, I do not really want to be in a NH unless necessary, but when I need it, I will choose Augustana again.

The administrator Sara is who it starts with…read more She trains her employees well and every time I have walked into the provider you see very caring employees not just doing their jobs but actually go above and beyond to make sure all their clients are well cared for. The employees I feel so little things for the individuals they serve to make sure they are treated with dignity and respect. Joy is the head nurse and she also does a great job. It is about team building and making sure new ideas are brought up to make sure residents are loved and cared for. I am so glad my mother in law care coordinator recommend to check out Gracewood when I was told there might be an open bed. They are very much about team approach.

The staff is like a family who are looking out and always interested but also give mom respect and privacy. She has had a variety of ups and downs and everyone including the house manager, the nurse and the staff all are honest and kind with me to keep me informed and connected even when I can't be with Mom as much as I wish. All the staff seem to really like the residents and visit and chit chat when they can. I am so appreciative that I am never "nickel and dimed" for all the little things like someone helping Mom to get dressed sometimes or doing a quick coat of paint on her nails. The building smells good and is decorated for seasons and holidays. It is relatively small which we all like so that Mom can stay active and have some freedom even though her dementia is significant. Her geriatrician visited and made a house call and was very impressed at how well rooms and overall layout were designed to accommodate the needs of elderly and ability to integrate different levels of cognitive and physical abilities together.
