You may be locked out of your unit at anytime, as the management seems to have trouble tracking what keys to turn on or off when folks are moving in or out, which by the way IS ALL THE TIME. Same with cable/internet service. If you are locked out, good luck finding someone to let you in as with near-constant moving, it takes an extra 10 minutes to go up or down the elevator. Plenty of rules cover grilling, the gym, and the pool area (the elevator too but those are not enforced). More than one occasion they have staff waiting to make sure any pool users are 'on a lease'. I assume similar rules govern the hot tub, but it hasn't been open in more than year. The maintenance staff seems incredibly over-worked and under-appreciated. That's probably not all on management (I'd bet most is), but funny enough they have resources to harass people using the pool over the weekend, but not enough resources to get you in a unit you were wrongly locked out of in less than 20 minutes. If you live here long enough, a taco truck may provide you a couple of free tacos for your troubles, but if you're locked out during the time it arrives - NO TACOS FOR YOU! read more

We went having made an appointment to look at units. We were told, rudely that they had nothing and would not show us anything except plans. Not even an offer to show us the facilities. Based upon the reaction this is a zero-service facility, as many of the reviews indicate. Dont! Added 5/31/2023: For reference, the E2 management has written a response (ten days later) to my review which is completely false. As stated before, 1) In our request for an appointment we specifically stated that we were only interested in 3+ BR 2) They only offered to show us plans. 3) There was no offer to show us the model apartment home. 4) There was no offer to show us a vacant 2-bedroom apartment. 5) There was no offer to show us the ameneties. The E2 just like the new Albion in Evanston are merely high-end apartments for Northwestern students, especially Kellogg students whose parents usually foot the bill. Noisy, and reeking of pot and cigarettes, during after hours, these High end buildings are merely money funnels focused on housing students. Kellogg students refer to both the E2 and the Albion as "Kellogg buildings." The city is complicit and should be concerned with creating affordable and lovely housing for residents instead of promoting greed. read more

I lived here for 2 years, one of the first tenants of E2. It's a very nice apartment. I would definitely recommend this place if you are a Kellogg student. If you are not a Kellogg student, you will have to live with Kellogg students dominating the common area/pool/and partying every week. Pros: -Nice common area: pool, basketball court, theater, party room etc etc -Nice units: counter tops, in unit washer and dryer, humongous windows, high ceiling and all of the other things listed on their website -Very responsive maintenance and nice concierge (Mosood is the best) -Big garage (if you have a car) -Sound proof is good: you will hear things, but if you think about all of the parties going on in that building, sound proofing works very well. -Good insulation, I rarely turned on AC or heater at all. Cons: -It's dominated by Kellogg. If you are not one of them, you can be annoyed with all the partying -AC and heater makes tremendous noise, this is one of the factors that bothered me a lot, I couldn't sleep with AC or heater on. If the building did not have good insulation, I would have moved out wayyyy before. Rest of the list are not biggies, but it might be important to people who care: -Some materials are bit.. questionable: 'granite' counter tops seems to be granite frame, with cement poured into them, and 'hardwood' floors are questionable (maybe just coated in a way they don't look like hardwood). But I am not expert, and I did not mind any of them. -Units are smaller: contemporary apartments do have floor plans that are actually smaller, and look smaller than apartments of the same size. Apparently it's a trend. -Paint falls off whatever you do. I had a countertop paint brush off my clothes for first six months even after me asking the management twice to clean it up. Also ceiling paint started falling down (yes the whole thing) after 1 year, but maintenance team took care of it. Well overall E2 apartment is a super nice building, and most of the cons are nit-picky ones, no major problem. I think it's worth the money. read more

This is my second year living here.The apartments themselves are really nice. I love the huge windows, modern kitchen, and spacious bathroom. The floors are annoying because they get scratched very easily. The washer and dryer are super loud, but who cares because in-unit laundry is AMAZING. One thing I find really strange is that there's no built-in light in the bedroom. But, these are small problems. The building offers parking, but it's something crazy like $140 a month. There's a parking garage right behind the building that charges $90. I'll walk the 2 minutes. My main issues with this building are the elevators being slower than molasses, and the partying. The building is mostly made up of Kellogg students who treat it like college 2.0, and have no respect for their neighbors, or the cleaning staff. Parties on Tuesday nights with people running down the hall screaming is not what I signed up for. Luckily.... This building has the greatest concierges. Mac, Salko, and Mosood are amazing. If you have a problem, these 3 are on it like yesterday. I reported one of those crazy parties, and I'm pretty sure one of them was up here before I even hung up the phone. The best part of living here though is the aforementioned Mosood. If I'm having a bad day, this guy turns it around every single time. I got married this summer, and was getting a ton of packages delivered. One day, I came downstairs, and he had them all gathered on the counter in the package room, and helped me load them into a cart. It sounds like not that big of a deal, but it felt so incredibly helpful in the frenzy of wedding planning. He waves to me everyday as I walk my dog around the block, and it feels so nice knowing someone out there notices you. He recently started buzzing the door open when the dogs and I got to the other side of the building, so that I didn't have to struggle getting my key out and juggling the dogs. How sweet is that?! This guy goes above and beyond. He was recently on vacation, and I was so sad without him! read more

I want to preface this by saying that I have only been in the building for one week. I will gladly update or re-review after I have been here for a while. I moved here because Evanston has been a place that I have always liked. My employment situation allowed me to move to Evanston and look at higher-end apartments. I visited and toured 1717 Ridge, Central Station, and the Amli Apartments. I almost did not visit E2 because I was burnt out of touring but I am so fortunate that I did. All I can say is - Amenities! Outdoor rooftop pool, 4 grill stations with bar top to eat on the rooftop, basketball court, gym with dumbbells up to 100 pounds, theater room. Service! Marissa (leasing agent), Salko (day concierge), Sandy (night concierge) - They all have been welcoming and unbelievably helpful in answering questions. I can't say enough great comments about them. I look forward to their continued service. Yes, there are a larger percentage of students living in the building (we are 3 blocks from Northwestern) but my observation has been that they are older and professional graduate students. For me, it adds to the youth and energy of the building. I would agree that they could do a better job at monitoring the trash around the 4th floor common areas during the weekend to accommodate for the late nighters. I couldn't be happier to call E2 home. Price - well over priced Service - awful, they will do anything to take your money from you, they do not help you at all with any services (cable, internet, answering ANY questions). The management is rude and instead of understanding what you're asking, they treat you like you're a number. They will treat you nicely, answer questions, lie to you (I was told there was free yoga at Exhale if you live here which is actually a 2 week trial, also say that you can paint your wall but the lease says you'll be responsible to pay for them to paint it back) or do anything TO GET YOU TO SIGN THE LEASE. THEN, they will treat you as I listed above in the service section. Absolutely useless customer service. There's a reason that people stay here a year max. It's exhausting to deal with people who treat you poorly when you're paying anywhere from $2600-$3500 to live in Evanston. Do whatever you can to sign somewhere else. It is not worth the flashy amenities they try to get you to believe are worth the premium. I agree with other reviews, it's best for spoiled college students, not young professionals. read more

I felt I needed to write a review on the people who are residents in the E2 Building. My husband and I have been helping our daughter who will be moving at the end of the month. We have made dozens of trips in the elevator to the garage. We say hello, good morning, good afternoon, not one single reply from any of the residents we have encountered on the elevator. The rudest, unpleasant, snobbiest people we have ever seen. You might think you're great and outstanding because you go to Northwestern but when you get out in the real world no one will look your way because none of you have any manners. We recently moved to E2 and had a really great move-in experience. Sandy, one of the concierge/front desk employees, was so helpful in coordinating our use of the loading dock and service elevator. She went above and beyond and really made my first experiences at E2 pleasant ones. Overall, we are very happy with our decision to move to E2. While the building, its staff, amenities, and our unit are awesome, I have had a couple of experiences that weren't so pleasant. It seems that unaccompanied minors (and their friends who do not live in the building) are allowed to run freely throughout the building, oftentimes on the pool deck or climbing on the workout room equipment without adult supervision. This is a huge liability for Greystar (the management company) and it also negatively impacts residents of E2 who are legally on a lease and are paying customers. I'm not typically a "get off my lawn" type of individual, but it's a little ridiculous to have 8 pre-teen children running around staking claim to every part of the common areas. Hopefully these types of issues will be managed in the future and all will be well in the land of E2! read more

I'm a current resident of E2 and have lived here for two years. In my opinion this is one of the highest luxury apartment complexes in Evanston (along with 1717) and as such charges premium for rent. The amenities are what you would expect from a luxury apartment (pool, grills, movie theater, gym, indoor basketball court). Although building management is inconsistent at times (hence the downgrade in stars), the front desk staff in particular are amazing. Salko, Mac, and Massoud make staying at E2 a pleasant experience and are always happy to help. read more

Expensive, but good for Kellogg students. There are a lot of things to like about E2. For me, the best part is the daily staff that you interact with. The concierges at the front desk: Salko, Mac, and Mosood are all friendly and remember you by name. Hutch and the engineering crew are consummate professionals going above and beyond to ensure that everything is running smoothly and promptly repairing any reported problems. The included amenities are also a pleasant bonus. During the warmer months people gather and enjoy the hot tub and grilling area on the fourth floor deck. The admittedly tiny gym is a fantastic convenience. The ability to quickly run downstairs and hop onto a treadmill for a quick run is a lifesaver. In addition, the building occasionally hosts local businesses and offers residents free samples of sushi, wine, etc. which is always a great surprise when coming home after a long day. The built in speakers included with every apartment are another excellent perk. The building is also conveniently located - just a seven minute walk away from the bars, restaurants, movie theater, and CVS of Evanston. Despite all of this there are several notable drawbacks: E2 is one of the more expensive buildings in the area. The concierges appear to be constantly overwhelmed by the amount of packages they have to process - especially when students are moving in. (Although they do their best to handle it like champs.) The plans to expand the gym frustratingly still do not include a proper benchpress or squat rack. The people within the leasing office were difficult to deal with when setting up my lease over the summer. (However the most problematic offenders seem to have been let go or moved to other buildings.) The building suddenly altered its rules and the pet free floor I had been guaranteed is now pet-'friendly'. Noisy neighbors are to be expected considering that Northwestern graduate and undergraduate students reside in the building. Overall E2 has lived up to my expectations - excellent service offered at a premium price. read more

I recently moved to Evanston for a new job (4 months ago) and checked out a few other apartments in the area before settling on E2. It wasn't my first choice, but I can say I have been pleasantly surprised so far. I will preface my review with a disclaimer beforehand: I pride myself on providing accurate criticism and praise within reasonable expectations. My favorite things about E2: Design/Look - All of the provided apartment furnishing and appliances are relatively new which adds to the modern look and appeal, yet they are still functional (in the sense that each item helps to enhance the design of the complex as a whole). Common Area Upkeep - The common areas are gorgeous and well maintained. When my friends come over to visit, we love using the outdoor grill and patio area. The weight room and pool are pretty much standard apartment amenities except that they are kept much cleaner than other places I have lived. Staff - I have read a few of the other reviews saying that the staff is rude and that has not been my experience. Just like any other apartment complex, I am sure they deal with their fair share of frustrating tenants on a daily basis so I always try to not be 'that' person. The 3-4 times I have interacted with them outside of signing my lease paperwork have been satisfactory. I don't count the leasing agreement simply because everyone is nice when they are getting you to buy something. In each interaction, the staff has been courteous, helpful and respectful. Privacy - Perhaps my favorite part of living here is how private it feels. In my opinion a place feels upscale when you don't feel like you are living in a building with hundreds of other people. I rarely hear my neighbors and most tenants that I have interacted with are respectful and considerate. My only issue is that I wish it was a little less expensive. Are there things that E2 can improve upon? Of course! But I have found the leasing office and staff to be responsive and helpful when I bring up concerns/complaints. read more

It's a nice apartment building but loses stars for the price and service from the leasing office. Pros: -Great concierge service (note, this is more appealing if you're in the East building since you walk past them everyday). Masood and Salko are really nice and friendly! -The apartments are relatively new and updated. Coming from a studio apartment with no in-unit laundry or dishwasher this was a major step-up -Service staff / Maintenance are always really friendly and quick to help out -Appreciate the pool / outdoor space Cons: -the leasing office is unpredictable and can be deceiving. When we signed our one year lease, we asked about possibly extending a few weeks. We were assured we would be able to roll over our lease for the month at the current rate. Unfortunately, we didn't think to get that in writing, and when we got our lease renewal, the extra month was 100% on top of our existing monthly rent... $5000+ for a 1 bedroom. After numerous conversations, we did get that reduced, but we're still paying an extra $500 on top of our rent for 10 days extra. We've heard varying stories from other renters, some getting the same add-on pricing as us, others not having to pay extra. The inconsistency seems pretty unfair, but we didn't have the time to battle it anymore. For a building comprised/reliant on the graduate student population, the inflexibility and outrageous pricing seems counter intuitive to retaining/gaining new customers. -the gym is ridiculously small for how large the building is. Although, it looks like it will be expanded, we won't be here for it. -Rent pricing could be better. Understandably it's a newer building, but look at Park Evanston, 1600 Hinman, OHo, 1717, for similar style apartments. I think you get more space for the money with the trade-off being less updated (perhaps). Not really the building's fault, but as a large contingent of Kellogg students live in E2, the new Kellogg building is about a 20 minute walk from E2. It's not the best for commuting there, but location-wise I would still think E2 is comparable to most of the other buildings. read more

Terrible place to live. Think the Ikea of apartments. It looks nice but everything is made so cheaply. The appliances, the elevators and the Internet NEVER work and they don't allow you to find your own internet provider. There were multiple issues with the front door lock and multiple break-ins. Updating my review since we have now left the building. Everything I said before stands true, this is a great building and we loved living here. The staff is great, the building is beautiful and well maintained. It was awesome being right on top of downtown Evanston and having access to all there is to offer. Yes, there are a lot of Kellogg students here, but 99% of the time it's totally fine.There was an incident this summer of an unruly party and the staff addressed it immediately in a memo to all residents about certain behaviors that won't be tolerated. I appreciated that they addressed the issue directly. We would definitely live here again! read more

Definitely the nicest place I've lived in Evanston. Fourth floor common area is really big and great for when guests are over. Among other things it includes a private pool area, hot tub, theater, and game room. The concierge staff is great, too. Special shout out to Mosood, who makes an effort to get to know you and help out when its needed. The apartment itself is easy to maintain and makes for a nice home. I usually can't hear neighbors, except for when they get pretty loud. Only downside is the expense of living here, but the economics of it makes sense. read more

I moved to E2 in late August and could not be more satisfied. The apartments are very nice, all brand new and ascetically pleasing. I especially love the ease of the location, washer dryers in unit, beautiful gym, garage, and amazing amenities. The deck area is gorgeous with pool, hot tub, lounge areas, cabanas, electric fire places, and stainless steal weber grills. Also, you are walking distance to all Evanston has to offer, lake included. Another fabulous part of E2 is the excellent staff. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Maressa in the office helped me get settled with paperwork and move in. She is extremely helpful and nice. Salco, the head front desk manager and is also amazing, always so friendly and helpful. I have the most contact with those employees but everyone on staff has been nothing but kind and friendly. I would highly recommend E2 to anyone looking for an apartment in Evanston. Been here for a year, beautiful building, that is well maintained. You get what you pay for. Enjoyed my year here. PROS - beautiful floor to ceiling windows in my corner apartment (get a unit #7 on any floor in the west tower!) and super helpful staff, cleanliness of building and amenities, laundry in unit, amenity floor, management team responds quickly, and desires to make your time here great! Digital bulletin board for tenants. Dry cleaning service & minte housekeeping service available. Concierge and maintenance go above and beyond. CONS, as with all buildings, elevators and exit garage doors are broken often (once a quarter maybe), concierge has many duties and often require a 10-15 minute wait for them to return to help you get packages. Apps for building have changed several times during my time here. Recommendations for management - get self serve lockers for packages and get a garage door manual override. read more

I feel very lucky to live here. The amenities really are wonderful. There seems to me to be a nice mix of residents so far with some families, as well as some students. Given that we are moments from Northwestern and there is actually university housing in the same block, it shouldn't come as a surprise that there is a significant student population here. However, the facilities are always clean and since my apartment looks over the pool deck, I can see that they clean out there every morning. The amount of sunlight that comes in through all the windows is great, and they are pet friendly, so my cat gets to enjoy the sunlight too! The pool is designed for laps and has 2 lanes which is great, there is also a hot tub with jets. The gym has treadmills, ellipticals, benches, Dumbbells, leg press and a couple other machines. There are lots of tables in the common area where I can go down to get work done. The cabanas are great to hang out in on hot days by the pool, but I do wish they would have invested in anti-rust curtain rods as they have already begun to rust. Obviously with any new building, there will be some unforeseen issues, such as the curtain rods, but on the whole, this place has everything I could hope for and seems to be turning into a great community as more people move in. I am beyond satisfied. Also, location is great with 2 train stations within walking distance, as well as Northwestern, and downtown Evanston around the corner. read more

My experience last year in 2017 was not the most positive as I didn't think management was handling things well with broken elevators constantly, equipment down in the work out room and there was a fire at the grill from them not cleaning it. I hope with new management brings better outcomes. Please read contract carefully before singing and don't forget to do a walk-through at the end of your lease, this could bite you in butt as it did for me. read more

I am really disappointed in E2. I contacted them all the way back in December about moving in to the apartment building in June. They were very helpful in the beginning, but as time wore on, I got absolutely NO response from them when I would try to contact them. The manager, Justin needs to go. E2 is a really nice/new building, but the cost doesn't justify the benefits. I will say, a few of the doormen have made living here 100 times more pleasant - Mosood in particular couldn't be more helpful and pleasant to interact with - he quickly learned my name/apt number and is extremely personable/wants to help. Trenton (who works in the leasing office) is also great. However, in general, management is slow to respond and I often feel like they treat tenants like children...sending us emails in a scolding tone that they will no longer accept grocery deliveries or large packages. This seems like a very standard service that a building should offer, especially a luxury building. Rather than inconveniencing tenants, invest in another fridge to put downstairs so that you can provide a pretty basic service to your tenants who are paying $3000+ to live in EVANSTON. Another VERY disappointing interaction...earlier this week, I went outside to find my bike missing. I talked to the guy working at the front desk at the time and was told that apparently a note was put on my bike last week that it needed to be moved (it was chained to a sign right outside the building) and since I didn't move it, my $60 bike lock had been cut... I was told an email was sent, so I went back to my inbox..nothing. I called the office and spoke to Vonda who quite honestly spoke to me in an inappropriately rude tone and asked me "if i really didn't think I had any blame in this situation?"... Seeing that I am not obligated to use my bike over the course of a week, putting a sign on it for 7 days (7 days that happen to be very cold, so i was not riding my bike), in my opinion does not give you the right to ruin your tenants property. And regardless, there is a way that you talk to customers in a customer oriented business and that is NOT IT. She made me feel as though I did something wrong for locking my bike outside the building. She admitted no email was sent but told me because E2 has a free bike room, questioned why I thought it was okay to lock it up outside... of course this logic makes absolutely no sense...It is really hard to justify paying so much for a building that clearly doesn't have much respect or care for their tenants. read more

Absolutely rude and unhelpful management staff. I lived in E2 for two years and a week ago I asked one of the women who work in the leasing office if she could quickly write me a housing recommendation as I will be moving to San Francisco and they are more stringent about tenant requirements. After telling her I only needed one to two sentences sent to my email address just saying that I paid on time, the woman looked at me, said she was too busy with other priorities, and told me she would get to it within 24 to 48 hours. After telling her I needed it by tomorrow, she said she was already too busy and refused to help me. Seeing as I gave her my email already, it would have taken her 2 minutes to send me the email as she was already on her computer, but she still refused to do so. To this day, a week later, I have still not received any recommendation. This is typical of E2 management as they have shown time and time again they are indifferent to the needs of their tenants. The amenities are nice but often times things become inoperable and E2 takes forever to fix them properly. read more

Looks sketchy. Coming from Europe I wanted to rent an apartment for a month, filled the tedious online form, clicked ONE-MONTH rental option (available on the website), payed the deposit and the fees 465$ and all that just to receive a call fro E2 apartments few hours later saying that one-month rentals are NOT AVAILABLE! So they promised to send a check to a US address (remember I booked from Europe) worth only 450$! (it has been two weeks and the check still hasn't arrived!) On top of that they keep the non-refundable difference 15$ for themselves. Looks like a great scam scheme: list short-term rental options on the website so that people apply and waste their time, and then call and tell them that short term rentals are not available charge 15$. Not bad! Still hoping to receives that reimbursement check of 450$ they promised. It took them few seconds to charge my credit card, but the reimbursements they prefer to do the slow old fashioned way. How smart! read more

This is easily the worst apartment I have ever lived in. It's hard to list all the issues with this place, but to name a few: the staff is very rude, the apartment is WAY overpriced, no one is ever at the front desk, boxes can be easily stolen, the apartment and garage functioning is terrible (half the time it never works), internet and cable barely work (you must use the services they provide), the just list goes on. I have had several encounters with the management about problems with this facility, and they all ended in no resolution. The apartment looks nice from the inside at first, but you are being fooled. I would never consider living here again. read more

Since you can observe a lot when you come visit (or read the website), I will focus instead on things that were a surprise after moving in. PROS: -The appliances work very well. -There is a nice web portal for messaging other residents. - There is free coffee in the lounge. - The doorwomen and men are awesome. Very curteous and helpful. - Packages can be picked up 24 hours a day. CONS: -The HVAC system is noisy. An option to put the fan on "low" would be nice! - The windows have no screens.Especially as the HVAC is so noisy, an open window (without mosquitoes) would be such a nice alternative. - The hallways are not air conditioned and get really muggy. - The biggest negative is a recently installed card-swipe elevator system, which means you can't just have the doorman let guests in and up to your apartment or buzz them in -- you have to go down to the lobby every time so that you can let them up the elevator.It creates a lot of ongoing inconvenience with deliveries/guests. Plus, the system doesn't actually make the building more secure -- people who forget their key (or don't have one) just hang out in the elevator until someone else comes along or calls the elevator up to a floor. And everyone's card works for every floor. So it's extra hassle without extra security. read more

I've lived here for seven months now and my lease runs through August 1st. The building itself is one of, if not, the nicest rental buildings in Evanston. The front desk concierge (Salko, Sandy, and Mack) have been terrific. Kudos to Sandy for making the move-in [and everyday living] pleasurable after management disappointed. In fact, cannot praise she and the front staff enough! Management seems to think that the building sells itself, if you will. In full disclosure, I'm not a student and have a plethora of other places to choose from. Sure, there will be a perpetual, revolving door of grad students willing to pay for semi-luxury accommodations in close proximity to Northwestern University. I might note that I almost backed out of my lease the day before moving in based upon my personal experience. I could elaborate but would rather not. Generally speaking, I've had few issues, except with one neighbor. Management was laxed in dealing with him. I've had new and old clothes alike continually damaged by the stackable dryer in my unit. You can tell that management opted for cheaper appliances; you get what you pay for. The gym is subpar for a building its size. Many may argue it's adequate, but I beg to differ. I was told by one of the leasing agents, not mine, early on that they were building out a larger gym elsewhere in the building. Haven't seen anything to that effect to date. She got my hopes up. No one wants to feel claustrophobic while running on a treadmill or working out. Pool and outdoor deck area (cabanas, "hot tub," grills, firepit, etc.) are fantastic during the warmer months. I say hot tub because it's not a true spa-like experience; the jets are really weak and I've raised this to management. Secondly, I wish they kept the "spa" open more months of the year; its calendar coincides with pool season. Uhhh, hello, this is Chicago weather! I came from a much nicer property downtown Chicago, so it's almost unfair to compare the two - location aside. It's the little things that make a world of difference - and you feel at home. At my old building they offered complimentary coffee - nearly identical Starbucks machines - in a café where neighbors would congregate and "shoot the bull." It's not like we don't pay a lot in rent. Separately, the E2 utility package doesn't include digital TV. You have to pay à la carte. This was included at my old building, as was a few premium movie channels; mind you the same utility price I'm paying now. I'm reasonably happy. Nothing to rave over. Definitely room for improvement, however the property does have a lot going for it. I would like to also commend the maintenance staff. Steve, Johnny, and Charlie are great. Charlie went 'above and beyond' to help me this winter. My car suffered damage to its undercarriage after the horrible icestorm. I was in my business suit and, without hesitation, he came outside and got onto his hands and knees to remedy the situation. I will update my star ranking accordingly. Currently, debating whether to renew my lease. Fortunately, I have several months before deciding. read more
