I served jury duty this week, and on my lunch break decided to go for a walk. (Ok, fine, I was…read moreplaying Pokémon.) My wanderings took me to the Nerd Store, and since I never turn down an excuse to buy comics, I went inside. What immediately struck me was the amount of children's comics and graphic novels at the front of the store. Amulet, Smile, and most of the other novels I've read and recommended to my students were there, and that's just freaking awesome. I always have to hunt down new books in stores, but here they were grouped together, making it super easy to browse and pick up something good. My eyes were then drawn to the board and card games, and at that point the fellow working came over to see if I needed help, and offered his opinion on a few of the games. I appreciated that, and I snagged a copy of Monty Python Flux for my sister. He then apologized for the state of the back half of the store, saying they were rearranging the comics. Despite the disarray, I had no problem finding a few fun reads to take home. Great service, and great little shop!

I absolutely love the feel of the store as well as the unique merchandise that Sarah has available. Featuring retro toys and handmade goods (clothing and slings galore!), you are sure to find SOMETHING that you just can't live without. There is a play area for the kids and Sarah has had "workshops" for kids in the past as well as a mama's group for local mama's to get together and commiserate. The store has such a friendly atmosphere, with at least one of her three girls there with her, you'll be tempted to just pull up a chair and have a chat. Go in and relive your childhood with the nice selection of toys - it's a stop that you won't regret.

The kids book selection is perfectly stocked with quality books and it's surprisingly well organized considering how thin picture books are and how cute kids like to pull them off the shelf. The vibe is great and the staff is delightful. It's my favorite book store in northern colorado.

It's not every store that makes DMs audition to run official event tables so I appreciate the extra effort they put in to try and keep players and DM/GM RPG experiences great. The owners have been friendly and happy to help every time so stop by. The store's still pretty new so stock selection of some TCGs like One Piece / Pokémon / magic pre release / and certain board games sounds like it's still in the works. But they're very aware and apologetic that stock is still being filled out and both Matthew and Conrad have been super responsive. At the grand opening there were local game designers and a local crafter out to sell/ demo things & a chance to sign one of the play tables which was a great experience. I'm excited to see what the store does when all their stock is finally in.
