this store was kind enough to divide itself into two distinctly sex based stores so that all of us…read morewho have difficulty distinguishing between the mens and womens garments no longer have to suffer in silence. this small store was the mens store. in it were blazers/sport jackets (whatever the hell sport that it is youd play in them i dont know), light long sleeve tee shirts, short sleeve tee shirts, some shoes, belts, bags, pants - both casual like jeans and more formal like, you know, sport pants (for that same elusive sport above). although i didnt ask and i would venture to say that if i really loved it they would order it in for me, make it or whatever it is they do, but they had about one size for each style of hat they had and though the selection seemed varied (for not being a hatter shop - hatter is the right term; i do my research), it was disheartening to have the majority of the hats resemble dunce hats on my head because they couldnt fit around its girth. (im fully willing to accept that im projecting the anger felt about my fat dome.) anyhow, they had those fargo hats with the flaps in a few different styles, some simple bowl toques that are in style these days (overpriced anywhere you go in my opinion) and a few caps here and there. all pretty cool and though not all styles agreed with me (we are talking taste wise here not swelled noggin), it was nice to see the variety. for about 60 or so dollars you could pick up a leather belt with an impressive buckle. the beauty of this belt is that once youve picked the right leather, first of all you can mix and match, because the belts and buckles are sold separately, and secondly, you can always come back for an alternate buckle (or buy as many buckles as you like at the same time i suppose). there were some really cool baseball tee shirts with those 3/4 arms that were very very thin and weathered in some way where patches of it looked thicker in material and some parts were much thinner. great shirt, but itd be a shirt id wear once in a while when i knew i was doing something nowhere near related to a game of baseball. the long sleeve collared shirts also stood out to me, with varied styles, nice patterns and fabrics. the jackets seemed not to stand out in the same way. all in all, i enjoyed this shop, will come here again, probably to buy a belt first and i look forward to their continued success.

My habit before seeing a concert at the latter is to visit the former. The downside is that I can never buy everything that I want because Massey Hall has a strict policy on what you can bring into the venue. Can you believe that candy isn't allowed?! Anyway, after calling it a day eating and shopping with my friend at Square One a few weeks ago, I was heading back to entrance 1. I saw this Urban Outfitters. It was calling my name, so I went into the store. This store is massive! I guess that it makes sense. The downtown Toronto location has two floors. This store is one long, deep store with a ton of merchandise. There's a lot that I like about Urban Outfitters. It has electronic devices that I once had when it was trendy, but updated to be cool and current. I still have my old portable cassette player. I got a clear one at Urban Outfitters and love it. The vinyl section is nice. It's reminiscent of my roaming the huge record stores along Yonge Street. The only difference is how expensive vinyl is these days. I saw Peanuts socks. They made me happy. I oddly don't own any. I do like the handbags here. They are generally lightweight. I have one that I travel with. It's so light that I barely notice that it's with me. I liked the crescent-shaped bags. One had Sanrio characters on them. I like the style of these bags. The problem was that the strap on it wasn't long enough to make it look like a normal-looking crossbody bag on me. Bummer! The price was also steep at $70 for a non-Sanrio bag and an extra five dollars for Sanrio. The clearance items are at the back of the store. It's worth browsing because you can find some cool deals. I saw a lavender bucket hat that was a bit fuzzy. I held it in my hand. A friendly male staffer came over to check on me. "Hi, there! Did you need any help?" he asked me. "Yes, where's a mirror that I can use?" I asked. It was perfect timing. I was also in an area where there weren't any mirrors. He directed me to one in a different part of the store. I thanked him. I like bucket hats. They suit me. They also tend to fit my large skull. This one did perfectly and in a colour that I love. It was also heavily reduced in price. Yay! I had the same nice man at the checkout. He asked whether I was registered as a customer. I knew that I was stateside. I didn't know if I was here. He found my phone number in the system. Yay! I paid with a credit card. All was good. He gave me a reusable bag that was free with purchase. Double yay! I thanked him and happily left with my purchase. This store was a nice find. Parking and customer service are better here. I'd return to check out more cool items, like boba night lights and bookmarks. (193)

They made snarky comments about how I didn't need a new coat and much more. When I returned with a bunch of friends, since I now had a huge store credit, the sales associate wouldn't even pull a coat for me to try on since he said, "I tried it on the day before". I then told him that I wanted to try it on for my friends so I could get their opinion on the coat. The sales associate then walked away. Talk about rude! I just spent over $1000 in their store and they just walk away?? Are you kidding me?? Luckily I had three amazing friends with me who helped me pull and try on as many coats as possible to find one that would be a decent fit for the cold winter months ahead. This store would not give me a refund. Any other store would have given me a refund or purchased the coat I wanted in the bigger size. I couldn't believe the snarky comments coming out of the employees mouths. My friends were flabbergasted at the attitude the employees were spitting out at us. I will NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN!!!! I rather go to a store like Holt Renfrew or Mendocino where they do what needs to be done to make the customer happy. Holt Renfrew will fix products that need mending and their customer service is way better. Mendocino would have ordered me the coat in the larger size in a heartbeat. Even though I didn't end up buying mine from Due West since we were in a different part of town prior to leaving Toronto, their suggestions helped me narrow down the jacket I eventually bought and love in this weather. They also offer Fusion Fit for petites that we didn't find calling around other CG resellers like Holt Renfrew. The wide-selection and availability in sizes definitely makes this a good spot to get a good dose of goosey warmth.

Lately, there seemed to be a price jump and their aesthetics have changed. It's definitely more fussier with less office wear. I feel they're more targetting someone in California than someone in Toronto. The storefront reminds you of a boutique storefront that took over an old Victorian home. Instead of an open modern space, the store is cut into small rooms and it's very hard to get an idea of all the clothes available. Im sure I've missed out on some decent pieces ever since they changed to this way. As for the quality and costs, I think the quality has held over time but the costs certainly have gone up. A short sleeved flowy cotton top $150? Simple cotton shift is $180? None of these designs have intricate stitching or designs.... they're all simple basics. Yes they are better than Banana Republic but are they 3 times better? No. As for service, I find it hit and miss. Sometimes you'll have a really nice and helpful staff and then the other times, a dismissive bored staff who is constantly on their phone. I think I've stopped consistently coming to Club Monaco once they moved to their new spot and changed their staff. Sometimes they have good deals and you can find a decent item but with all the recent changes, good luck finding it!

The customer service has been consistently great whenever I come in and their always ready to serve you whether you buy something or not. I always find that some of their stores elsewhere are a bit of a snob (and I have an issue about that, thus I do not go back there unless I really have to) but this store is welcoming. So that is a MAJOR plus. And the selections are spread out really nicely and I like the look the new store has compared to the other ones I saw. And oh, they have a little display of pre-loved/vintage chanel pieces if your interested. Which I never knew they carried!
