We love this place! We started two weeks ago and I already feel the difference. My husband is here for his interest in Martial arts and I am doing it to get in shape and we are both really happy. Raul is a great teacher and he builts a family with everybody. I super recommend you to try the first class for free and I'm sure you would love it.

The staff here is awesome and never makes fun of me when I take a multi-month hiatus (LOL)…read more UFC really has it all -- parking, lots of equipment, a clean space, and saunas in the locker rooms/ They do a good job keeping the equipment in good condition and are sure to mark any that are under maintenance. There is pretty much always a staff member cleaning at all times, so the overall space is very clean. There is also a studio space in the back of the gym where they offer group classes, but if there are no classes happening you are free to use the space on your own. The pricing is really great for what you get. We've been coming here for years and will continue to do so!

We started with a warm up, moved into footwork drills with partners, and then practiced boxing techniques on the bags. I will say, it would have been nice if they provided boxing gloves hitting the bags barehanded left my hands a little sore. The facilities were clean and well maintained overall, although a lot of the lockers in the locker room were either broken or locked already, which was a downside. On the positive side, I loved the variety the gym offers you can strength train, do jiu jitsu, boxing, and more. Plus, their membership is super flexible with no long-term commitment. They also have a massage station you can earn free sessions for by tagging your workouts (though honestly, I wish a free massage was just included!). They even treated us to free smoothies after the workout, which was a nice touch. Overall, it was a great experience so much so that I even considered switching from my regular gym and jiu-jitsu studio to join them! If they had more locations closer to me, it would be a no-brainer.

Oscar is an amazing Boxing and Muay Thai boxing coach…read more I have dabbled in martial arts since I was a child and trained at several boxing, MMA, BJJ, and Thai Boxing gyms all over the city. Chicago is definitely blessed with excellent martial arts and combat sports instruction, and Oscar Bravo definitely belongs in that category. His current location is convenient off the CTA Red Line, buses, Loop, I-94, and Lake Shore Dr. His gym is upstairs from Phenomenal Fitness, which we get access to if its not too busy as a perk. Oscar's gym has the amenities that other gyms might lack, but not in an ostentatious way. Clean locker rooms, more than one shower, towels, soap, shampoo, decent bathrooms. He provides wraps, shin guards, mitts, focus pads, thai pads, whatever we need to train, plus a nice selection of Thai bags and boxing bags. There is also a treadmill. Another plus is that there are NO contracts. Just a straight fee that includes a T-Shirt, no cancellation policies, just easy Quick Pay and easy rate change if you want to train more. Its very transparent. Also we can make up classes on another week if we miss out, so we aren't wasting $. Very appreciative of that. Now on to the man himself. I've only known Oscar for a short time, but he has a great reputation as a fighter, martial artist and coach that goes way back in the community. He has a great eye for improving technique, pushing you to excel and do your best without crushing you or making you feel inadequate. There is definitely empowerment within his teaching, and he also shares his experiences with other martial arts and not limiting to what is being taught within the base art. I think this well-rounded approach is extremely beneficial as people come from all different types of backgrounds. He tries to get to know you when you first come in and evaluate where we are. There has definitely been a great progression with our Muay Thai class since i joined a few months ago, everyone is improving in fitness and technical application. Its encouraging to see the team environment develop organically without Oscar emphasizing it. Right now the class is small so we all get great individual feedback. Oscar is also great at reminding us about recovery, stretching properly, and taking care of our bodies without sounding too preachy. Strongly recommend you check out a class, for fitness, training for your first fight, or self-defense. Whether you are new or a veteran, you can learn something.

I don't usually write reviews but I really think this gym deserves one. I just moved to Chicago and…read moreI have been training muay thai/thai boxing for a while (having had several different coaches) so I was looking to continue developing myself and looked at several different Gyms in the downtown area, but all of them were either really commercial or way too expensive. By accident I found out about this gym and it was the absolute best choice. Oscar is very experienced as a coach (not one of those young fitness dudes at the gyms who tries to teach you about boxing, without having any experience). Having been to a lot of gyms before I can assure you he is a top level coach. He can really help you improve your technique and physique regardless if you are a novice or you are looking to fight on Pro level. Every student get his full attention and it is a worthwhile investment if you want to become a better boxer/kickboxer or just get in really good shape.

Forteza Fitness is a supportive group who pushes you to do your best and work with whatever you can do. Taking any kind of class can be overwhelming especially when you have difficulties with the exercise. Everyone from the teachers to other students are so patient and work with my abilities and support each other as we go through the classes. I have struggled with classes because of trying to train my muscles to work a certain way or having the stamina, but the support at Forteza keeps pushing me and helping to make me stronger/heathier.

Strength and fun in a no-frills/no-fuss atmosphere…read more This is a fitness studio with two core training sets: an extensive coursework/community of historic European martial arts (swords! swords ! swords!) and a more fitness-focused schedule of classes geared around Spartan races. The space is set up mostly for the martial arts, so that it feels like a set for period movie about Queen Elizabeth. It's a very comfortable space for bookworms to come work out. The fitness classes are very fun. They tend to be small, with lots of personal, gentle attention. Trainers get to know the regulars and the regulars get to know each other, which makes each workout friendly and welcoming. And I got a great deal on personal training. The workouts themselves are usually a bit more focused on strength and flexibility over cardio/endurance. The one drawback (for those who use the space more for fitness) is that it really is more of studio than a gym. There's no showers and no treadmills. Somehow I'm far more motivated to work out here than I was at other places I tried, where I'd just end up donating my gym membership month after month. At Forteza I feel like I'm getting a personal training . . .in a class setting . . three times a week. Like it's gym class again but for fun people with nice teachers. It's a gym class that's redeemed itself. They've fixed gym class. It's glorious.
