Dyea Dave is AWESOME! Super-accommodating and entertaining. I coordinated with him months before our cruise to Alaska (with a stop in Skagway), inquiring about bus tours to Emerald Lake as well as fishing. He was very helpful and provided a ton of information.
There were 12 (7 adults, 4 kids, and 1 infant) of us who rode up on the bus tour with him. Aside from bugs and beautiful sights and views, the ride was full of anecdotes, corny jokes, and puns to keep everyone laughing and in good spirits.
We ended up making a stop at Tutshi Dog Sled Tours near Fraser and spent an hour or two playing riding dog carts and playing with puppies. Dave waited around for us.
When we were done we rushed up to Carcross for a quick lunch, and onto Emerald Lake. Given all the stuff we were trying to squeeze in, he was patient and accommodating but had to gently usher us along, and we did get to see and learn quite a bit.
Then on the way back he dropped the rest of my family off in Fraser to take the Whitepass RR train back to Skagway. He also accommodated for me to stop off and fish one of his 'fishin holes' on the bus ride back. He even went as far as rock hopping over water with me, at the risk of getting wet or falling, to help me find the fish (I caught 3 arctic grayling thanks to Dave!). What a guy. I can't say enough about how great he was!
Dave is a no-frills kind of guy and will make recommendations and suggestions accordingly. At the end of the day, he doesn't try to set you up to be at places where he gets the most kick-back; rather, he's looking out to support the smaller businesses and supporting the overall economy there.
He is very honest about everything he does, loves what he does, and is just an all-around nice guy. His assistant, Kathy, is super kind and helpful too. Both were very patient with all my [and my family's] requests. If I'm ever back in Skagway or plan to go to that part of the Yukon, I'll be sure to give Dave a ring to see if we wants to fish :) read more
