Even though the weather wasn't the greatest during our visit, we still really enjoyed wandering around and checking out all the different shops and vendors. One thing we especially appreciated was how much of the market area is covered, making it much easier to explore without being completely at the mercy of the weather. There are SO many cool places to check out here, particularly if you love Italian food and specialty products. One of our absolute favourites was Claudio! We ended up buying a bunch of pasta and other amazing Italian items to bring home. There was so much we wanted to try, and it was one of those stores where you could easily spend a lot of time browsing and filling up your shopping bags. Another fun part of visiting the Italian Market was seeing some iconic filming locations! As huge fans of the Rocky franchise, it was awesome seeing the spot where Rocky runs and gets tossed an apple. We also loved finding the location associated with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia where Charlie eats an entire pear, sticker and all! These little moments made exploring the area even more entertaining for us. We also met a lot of really nice merchants along the way. It's always great when the people running the shops are friendly and welcoming, and that definitely added to our experience. Overall, we really enjoyed the Italian Market. Between the delicious food, specialty shops, friendly merchants, and fun movie and TV connections, there's plenty to see and do. We could have easily spent even more time exploring! If you're visiting Philadelphia, we'd definitely recommend adding the Italian Market to your itinerary. Come hungry, leave yourself time to browse, and bring a bag for all the delicious Italian goodies you're bound to find. Claudio is especially worth checking out! You basically start at Fitzwater Street near Angelo's Pizzeria if coming from Center City. It ends somewhere around Passyunk Avenue near Geno's Steaks. It was initially established back in the 1880s by South Italian immigrants, but I think most people would agree that the businesses are presently more diverse. We saw Mexican, Honduran, Nicaraguan, Thai, and Vietnamese businesses alongside Italian and other more generalized European markets. It was a planned visit for us. I just had to try South Philly Barbacoa and Anthony's Italian Coffee House. We also saw the infamous line of people waiting to place their orders at Angelo's Pizzeria. Along the way, there were many colorful murals depicting the history of the street market as well as many delivery trucks with fresh produce. That's really the big draw to this area. There were many locals buying produce, meat, cheese, and imported grocery items. It doesn't stop there. Make sure to take a little detour along South Street as you're walking back to the city center. There's public art everywhere including Isaiah Zagar's Mosaic Home, Alley of Murals, and Philadelphia's Magic Gardens. You could pretty much spend an entire afternoon in this part of the city. Don't pass it up when visiting the City of Brotherly Love.

All produce is clearly marked, which I like, whether it's their own or Jersey grown or from another state. If it doesn't have a sign, the produce seems like just good grocery quality stuff. The pretzels were still soft, doughy, and incredibly satisfying with just the right amount of salt. You could tell these were the real deal classic Philly comfort food done right. The dipping sauce paired perfectly and somehow made them even more addictive. The Staff was very knowledgeable and sweet.. Now I completely understand why they were featured on CBS Sunday Morning. On the plus side, everything is nicely arranged and the product LOOKS nice. The signs are adorable. I doubt they'll miss what I contribute to their operation; there are other smaller produce stands along 322. If you can survive without the cute signs, you might want to give them a try.

They only bake gluten free in the building so they are very careful to not contaminate the process. The original pretzels are stored in a separate case than the gluten free products. I don't have food allergies, but I respect companies that are very careful to isolate the two baking processes. The manager in the Oaklyn store was very friendly and was proud to explain the baking process for me. In addition, explained how to freeze and reheat the pretzels. The store is very nice, but I wished I lived closer. These pretzels taste exactly like I remember as a kid. Thanks for the memories!

The men working there have been doing it for decades, on machinery that has probably been used for nearly a century. They were friendly and happy to chat. When I told them I was looking for pretzels like I remember from my youth, we figured out that this is the bakery that delivered pretzels to my elementary school. Like milk money, we could pay weekly to have a soft pretzel delivered each day at lunch. Pretzels are just 3 for a dollar! They had braids and pretzels with something like an "everything" topping. They were good, though different from other local pretzel makers. Pretzels are chewy, not as crusty as other brands, and clearly hand-twisted. They also have a malty, yeasty flavor that is unique. I really like them, and not just for the nostalgic reasons. NOTE: This is NOT the gluten-free bakery! They have a separate facility in Oaklyn that makes the gluten-free items. Great news for those with celiac disease. The shop at Oaklyn sells regular stuff as well.

The guy in the truck taking orders was just rude not by what he said but how he spoke to me. The curds were not all that. It's basically moterilla sticks in circle form.
