We had a great experience at Skay Automotive last week. They had very favorable reviews on both Yelp! and Google, so we knew we needed to give them a try. Conveniently located within walking distance of our house; even better! We're still pretty new to the Iowa City area after moving here from Cedar Rapids a couple of months ago. We were unable to get into our former mechanic back in CR because of a 3-week wait. This prompted us to tell ourselves that it was just time to find someone in Iowa City. Who wants to commute 40 minutes when you have a car issue? A tire on our Mazda CX-5 had a leak. My husband called Skay on a Tuesday and they were able to get us in for an appointment a couple of days later. We dropped off the car the night before said appointment and used one of their overnight deposit envelopes for our key. Envelopes were great because you could fill it out according to what you wanted to have the mechanics inspect. Vehicle was ready to be picked up before 10am the next morning. The mechanic(s) pulled a screw out of my tire, repaired the tire and completed an oil change. So happy my tire was saved! At our request they also checked the condition of our brakes. More than fair prices. We appreciated the breakdown of the services they performs and everything was printed on our invoice. The reviews are true! Skay will be our top pick for automotive repairs going forward. Highly recommend.

The next day, I get a call with the details of the problem and they took the time to explain everything to me. I approved the work and on Thursday the car was ready and working like new. I figured it would be a sweet, but different way of acknowledging her loss (I also found a White Dog Cafe in Philly, a White Dog Vineyard in California, etc...), and my intent was to collect these things as a present in his memory. I cannot tell you enough what, not only a delight, but an effusive sympathizer the office manager Karan was! She is obviously an animal lover as is the entire company (it's named after a dog, after all), and took on my request with absolute enthusiasm. She comped all of the things I wanted AND sent more (i.e. t-shirts, license plate surrounds, key chains, etc...). You cynical types may view this as an easy way of advertising, but let me remind you that I live in TEXAS. Fat chance my friend would per chance be supporting a Whitedog T and a license surround in Iowa. Seriously, this place seems all heart. I trust animal people and, even though my lemon of a car has never been through their garage doors (wouldn't make it there anyway), I give them five stars for being awesome humans.

Locally owned, this is my go-to for auto repair. They do it all. From brakes to tires. Oil changes to transmission services. Electrical and engine repairs. They're reliable, trustworthy, reasonably priced, skilled and super professional. Over the years they have put in a new battery in our hybrid, serviced our transmission and more! We've always left the repair shop satisfied. Our last visit we dropped our car off at their super convenient, just of Highway 1 west side location, on a Thursday evening before closing and it was ready to pickup Friday afternoon!
