Dusky Grouse was good! We stopped in on our last day in Steamboat before heading back to Denver. I got some sort of little prosciutto sandwich for the plane but ended up eating the whole thing right then and there. Coffee was pretty good as well, fairly standard, but the employees were very nice and we saw a hot air balloon outside lol. read more

I loved the hole in the wall feel of this place and the coffee was great quality. We managed to sneak in just before the rush sent the line out the door, on a Sunday morning around 8:30 AM. There's just a big sign that says coffee outside, and the door is kept open, which gives the most authentic and inviting vibe. The inside is pretty small, and there's lots of queer positive messaging and signage all over. They have a few tables that probably fill up pretty quick. They have a pretty comprehensive coffee, menu, and a full list of flavor infusion options. I decided to try a pistachio iced latte, and it was delicious. Not too sweet or overpowering, not sacker in with a fake taste or feel, but just right. And the coffee itself was delicious. I also decided to try a bagel, I did the everything bagel with the veggie cream cheese, the cream cheese was so good. You could see the chunks of veggie infused into it, likely made in house. The bagel itself was OK, pretty good, but basically cold when I got it, I wish they would have toasted it a little bit longer. My boyfriend and I like to try local coffee shops when we are traveling. We stumbled in to the Dusky Grouse on a Thursday afternoon following a sweet day of skiing at Steamboat. This was our first time here and we immediately liked the vibe of it. The barista was friendly and we ordered Americanos to go as we were heading back home and the shop was closing soon. Immediately upon driving away we both stated that our drinks were incredible. One of the best Americanos we've ever had. So much so that we called the Dusky Grouse to inquire on what espresso beans they used to see if we could order some once we were home. =) We are now on repeat with espresso beans shipped to our home every other week! Thanks Dusky Grouse for using the BEST beans and serving up epic coffee! We will of course be back every time we visit Steamboat!! read more

Gluten free and dairy alternatives available. Puppy friendly front patio, some tables and chairs outside. The front is in full sun without um fellas or shade, so we couldn't hang out very long. We got a GF Nutella muffin, ham and cheese croissant, almond milk vanilla latte with an add shot, and green juice. Overall the coffee was good. I like smooth, non acidic after taste beans and these were pretty good. I am glad I got the add shot bc I prefer a strong coffee flavor and this latte just crossed that line for me. The green juice, per my partner, was ok but a little too much ginger that overtook the other flavors. If you don't like strong ginger, you may want to omit the ginger or get something else. Ham and cheese croissant was very good. Warmed up and flaky. The GF Nutella muffin was very very VERY dry. (Did I use enough "verys" to get my point across?) It happens with a lot of GF baked goods. Stopped here for some morning coffee while I was in town. I ordered the pretty bird, which is basically a honey lavender latte, and it was delicious. My absolute new favorite in Steamboat. It's never too crowded and you can always get a seat and hang out. It's in an area that isn't too busy and between town and the mountain. I haven't been too impressed with the roast quality of coffee in steamboat. However, Dusky Grouse Coffee blew me away. The quality of their beans is amazing with such a rich flavor. Came here to snag breakfast on the way out of town around 10am. Most options were out by this time which is understandable but as we were asking for things listed on the menu and the cash register lady was incredibly short and seemed annoyed we were asking for things that were sold out even though nothing was marked as sold out. That gave off bad vibes to start with but we brushed it off. We ordered a hot coffee and asked for ice to cool it down and she responded with "we can't do that." Haven't ever really been to a place that can't help provide ice to cool down a coffee. Again could have been fine but she was incredibly rude about it. On top of that they missed items in our order so wait time was much longer than needed. When we asked they just "oh ok". Overall, I'd say I'm pretty forgiving for coffee shops during their busy hours but the individual at the front was just rude from the start and I did not enjoy my experience here. Had the veggie burrito and it was not good. Shop was cute though. But probably wouldn't recommend to any family or friends coming to visit and would try to support other locations. read more
