Appointment only process works great until it doesn't, and if you ask for help with making the appointment in person they will very condescendingly tell you to go to the very website that was giving you trouble and refuse to help. I can't really give this place any stars. I have been to many DMV's but I have to say that this place needs to hire better people that have at least decent attitudes. This doesn't include the nice man who helped me when I first got there today, but the woman who took my picture for my drivers license was incredibly rude. I kinda wondered how people can be like this in the working industry. I asked her how her morning was going when I first approached her and she didn't even respond. Sometimes I am tired and don't love my job but that's nobody's fault but mine. I NEVER take it out on the customers. I wish I knew this woman's name but in my opinion, if I were her boss, I would have fired her in a heartbeat. It's just so not cool to be like that. read more

I arrived with expiring plates, and an expiring license, on June 17, 2016, planning to move to the state. This office, along with the adjacent one, refused to license my vehicle. They also refused to issue a new drivers license. As a result, I had to drive to Scottsdale, Arizona and Sun City, Arizona. It took just a few minutes to register my vehicle, and get a new license, and no emissions was required. The Durango staff was very rude, and even called the Durango Police Department because: "Sir, you are taking too much time asking us questions, we must move on to the next customer, please get [the hell] out of here." Oh really? I'm trying to move to their state and just drove hundreds of miles. I'm entitled to ask as many questions as I want to, about their ridiculous "Real I.D." act requirements. I expect that residents of all 50 states will treat everyone equally, whether or not you are already a resident of the state. Clearly, Durango and the entire state of Colorado are anti-growth and anti-business. They clearly don't want people moving to their city, or, their state. Avoid their DMV, and also avoid the city, whose residents were very rude and nasty. They wanted $130 for a motel when I came into town at 9pm, and refused to negotiate and give me a better rate. Scottsdale motels, in contrast, are only $40 to $50 a night. Make sure that your vehicle is registered in some other state before moving to Colorado! They also charge $83 for a drivers license. Arizona, only charges $20. Durango had homeless people everywhere, not even close to the handful of homeless in Scottsdale. It's not a bucolic place with nice people like it was in 2008 ! read more

I was concerned about the negative reviews re the customer service at this office. Did my research and brought all the necessary documents to change my MN license to a CO license. Process was smooth, and the license agent (James) was cordial and friendly. The man who took my photo gave me a pleasant smile and wished me a good day. I was in and out in a little over 30 minutes. read more

By far the most pleasant DMV experience my wife or myself have had. We had to transfer our out of state DL back to CO and the process itself took less than 10 minutes. If you take the time to arrive with all of the documents you need it's a breeze! Garrett was very pleasant and super efficient! read more

I moved from the Front Range to Durango and let me tell you something... This DMV has got to be the most pleasant experience I've ever had! I've been there about 8 times total and have never had to wait longer than an hour. I've waited up to 4 1/2 in Denver and Boulder! Kudos to the friendly staff, too. I believe most people only write reviews if they're angry and not enough write them when they have a good experience. The people who wrote the negative reviews I read must have had a really, really bad day or something :P Great DMV! read more

Well let's start off with the most unfriendly bunch of people I have dealt with since moving to Colorado. I came well prepared with the appropriate paperwork and ready to comply with all required requests, yet it seemed like I was wasting the individuals behind the counter's time by attempting to take care of legal documents. From the lack of "Good Morning", "Have a good day" to the more appropriate feeling of "Go to hell"....from them was the way things are dealt at this establishment. You would figure being a military combat veteran, a bit of courtesy would be given. I sincerely hope one day someone educates them that a simple smile, hello or "have a good day" is contagious and would make their dreary day go by in a more satisfying manner - do not infect others in a malicious way when we live in a beautiful state let alone a gorgeous city and should be grateful. Letters to department heads will be written so that others do not have to endure this terrible sense of customer service. read more

SLOW, SLOW, SLOW. Extremely apathetic employees who are not intelligent enough to command the salaries they are making, yet they can't even be happy in their ignorance and have to be control freaks to anyone wishing to get "services" at this location. Good luck trying to get information on the phone by calling ahead. I had to drive an hour each way and wanted to confirm some things before I arrived. I tried to reach them by phone for several days at all times during the business day. They DID NOT ANSWER THE PHONE, even once!!! When I did arrive, I saw employees making a game of moving so slowly that they are able see who can fall into a coma first. read more
