It's a bit out of my way but now I deal with this location. Every location I've ever been to starting in DeKalb has been top notch. Employees are really friendly. I now own my own business and am dealing with 5/3 and they are far from disappointing me. I don't foresee myself ever changing banks. Do yourself a favor and use them.

Anyway, I walk in there and the check I had was a little over 5K, and it was a check that was drawn on a fifth third account. No, I do not have an account there, so I assumed I would have to pay a fee, which I was ok with. What I was NOT ok with was the way I was treated. The teller, (an older lady with short hair and glasses) kinda eyed me funny when I even walked in the door. I told her I needed to cash the check, and gave her the check and my ID she looks at the check and asks if I have an account there and I told her no, that I was just short on time and needed to get some bills paid and wasn't sure if I was going to make it to my own bank, and since it was one of their checks, I assumed it wouldn't be a big deal. So then she goes on about asking me "Well don't you have your own bank" and all that and I was getting more and more offended by the second. That's not it the worst of it. THEN she literally picks up the phone and at first I assumed she was calling another manager because I know sometimes banks will do that for another security measure. Oh no. She literally CALLS MY ATTORNEYS OFFICE TO VERIFY THAT I WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE THE CHECK. When she told me she wasn't getting an answer and I asked her from who and she said the law firm I told her well he's most likely in court or closed for the day as it was about 10 past 5 pm. I was way over it at that point. I had even given her the documents that came with the check along with my ID. I just told her to just give me all my stuff back and forget it. I ended up going to my bank which I was worried I wasn't going to make it in time but I was able to make it and then were able to help me because my business account is also there as well. So, just because I walked in after working in my house in sweatpants and a breast cancer hoodie of all things not all the way clean shaven like I normally am I deff felt profiled, and was completely disgusted with that place. PS-I am in fact a business owner and my normal attire is suits everyday unless clients want a more comfortable environment. Just saying.

She provided counsel on Reverse Mortage options, as well as refinance, and ultimately Home Equity Line of Credit application. As VP she went to bat when our credit scores were low, and helped us compute an acceptable income level, DTI ratio, ( we are both on Social Security fixed income ). We now pay a much lower interest, than our two credit cards, We now live within our income, and we have money available, if needed. My wife and I both have medical expenses, dental bills, medicine, that need paying monthly. Old Second has made this possible, put us First, and eliminated our financial challenge, and associated stress. Old Second Bank worked with Elder Care Services, financial counselors to consider our budget challenge of expenses exceeding income! We highly recommend both Old Second, Carrie Osmund, Chris Shake, and Chris Heyob. We have been Old Second customers since 2006, when we moved to Sycamore. There is MORE to Sycamore, with Old Second Bank support, they have our back! We are proud to recommend Old Second Bank of Aurora.

The high schoolers they hire can barely add and subtract, and give you a blank stare when you ask any question that involves basic math. The older staff uses calculators instead of real software which leads to a lot of human error. My understanding is they use spreadsheets for updating accounts each day instead of advanced software like bigger banks use. Stick with bigger banks. If you question them about your account even in a nice way they snap at customers and accuse the customer of being wrong. Run away from this bank. They do a lot of manual entry instead of using software and their mobile app....lousy and inefficient. Customer service is awful. The bankers they hire cannot handle accounting questions. And no one knows how to transfer a phone call without you being dropped about ten times. I am concerned about their attitudes and manual accounting practices. Also at issue is their hours. There is not a 24/7 line to call if you have account questions. The only number you can call after hours is if your card is lost or stolen. So if you have pressing questions and it is after hours you are out of luck. Go to a bigger bank. Real banks use state of the art software and can research any dollar amount for anytime. OCB is the worst bank you can try. The staff is unqualified in basic accounting.
