Just moved into a new spot and a hardware store need has arisen for three reasons, which are:
1 - My roommate is an amazing painter and has a collection of paintings to hang but we live in a house with concrete walls from the 1900's if not earlier.
2 - There is a really bad smell in the house, specifically the kitchen... It smells like rancid Irish ruling politics with vomit on top.
3 - I am the DIY enthusiast / heavy duty fixer about the house. I want to train as a carpenter before I pop my clogs.
The lady there was a doll, she got me the exact holders that my roomie needed for the paintings and she also picked out a tack hammer for me.
Love this place for four reasons:
1 - I like when a granny tells me about the hardware I need, it's a lovely change.
2 - The granny was a dote (& so fresh faced that only an Irish Gran can bestow, tis a genetic gift due to lots of rain infused hydration), we chatted about her grandkids, her mother in law, her house, Paddies day, her ill Mammy in Tipp. She told me that she works so hard there that she dreads the long days of daylight... Seriously! I asked why obviously;
"Well when the evenings are dark early I don't have to hide the dirt... I'm so busy with work here, then running home to tidy, so when the sun comes out my lack of cleaning comes out!"
3 - It's independent, it's real, you can be a local. It's Dublin old school - support!
4 - With my Dunnes inspired DIY vigor I sourced the location of the rancid smell which involved taking apart the fridge and nearly passing out with the sheer funkiness but I solved the problem. Thanks to the new tools I just bought.
In future when I do more DIY/ Art projects, this will be my spot....
