I have found my new favorite donut place! And that says A LOT because I had another local donut place I was going to all the time, but Dunlap's has MOCHI donuts!!!! And not just any mochi, they were soft, squishy, and oh-so-tasty! They also have specialized donuts, like maple glazed with bacon. Oh. My. Heavens! Gimme gimme. Dunlap's is a solid donut choice in pleasure point with a few standout options and friendly staff. Glazed -- this is the way to judge a donut shop. This one is fine, slightly above middle of the road. Not the reason to go however. Maple filled with custard -- maple was mild tasting, custard was quite good. Strawberry and cream (see photo) -- oh my sugar bomb. Messy to eat but somehow addicting. Strawberries are whole. Big enough to share. Breakfast sandwich -- I got bacon and egg on jalapeño bagel and this was the highlight. Fresh bagel and good flavors. Would defn get again. This is a review from someone who is not a donut person and tend to not eat them as it can upset my stomach. If I do, I'm very particular which donut shop I eat from. However, we were in the area and noticed that Dunlop's had sold out and closed up earlier. We were told by some who are from the area that they close early if they sell out. It definitely got us curious and we decided to go the next day. We arrived around 8:30 am, and there was a good crowd already there. The inside was very clean and they had tables and chairs to sit at. I was really glad to notice that they didn't have an overly sweet smell. We got a maple bar and a regular glazed donut to go as we were going to Verve for coffee. The glazed donut was really good! It wasn't overly sweet or oily. It also didn't upset my stomach after, which is a big deal! The maple bar was good and something that can be shared between two people as it's pretty big. The hubs requested one thing during our Santa Cruz trip and it was donuts, so we found ourselves at Dunlap's before heading back home. First off, decor was so cute! Felt old school and I liked the vibes. As far as donuts, they had a good selection of flavors! We got half a dozen including their cronut, maple bar, chocolate filled with bavarian cream, s'mores, blueberry mochi donut, and a sesame mochi donut. We are also a sucker for croissant breakfast sandwiches, so we got a couple of those too. Everything was delicious! We finally got here early enough to get some of their specialty donuts. Their cases were full at 7.30am, but emptied out fast within a half-hour. I got a couple of strawberry and whipped cream donuts that I've been dreaming about for years. It's one big messy creation of deliciousness! Highly recommended. I also had a matcha mochi and Ube that I didn't even know they made. The matcha mochi was also very good. Nice chewy mochi and good matcha flavor. The Ube could of had a bit more of the Ube flavor for me, but was still good. You have to get here early because they sell out fast. There was a line out the door and down into the parking lot at 8am. I love that they give you a choice of coffee, light or dark roast and it's great dark roast. No prices posted and all the doughnuts are different prices, place is grimy, and the young man helping us rolled his eyes every time I asked what was inside of a particular doughnut. This place seems to be a well-known local spot. It's a cute lil donut and coffee shop but the twist is the variety of donuts they offer. They have all of your classic donuts, gourmet donuts with things like Oreos, and cronuts. I was so impressed, not just by the donuts, but also by the great customer service. This shop has been here forever and is the only place in SC county I can think of to get a more fancy, creative donut. Hadn't been in years and now that Yelp photos enticed me back in, I'm not sure why I haven't been going. Affordable, delicious, and great covid safety. They had a constant line of people by 8am on Saturday. Get here early if you want to be certain you can try a specific flavor out. Despite the line, it felt safe in here. Windows and doors were all left wide open, masks required, six feet of space mandated, and people were all directed to walk in one direction in a big circle. They've got it dialed. They have classic donuts like cake and buttermilk but you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't try at least one of their more creative varieties. We grabbed ube, canoli, Reese's cup, red velvet, and a few other snazzy concoctions. Ube was my favorite. Canoli was also a highlight and tasted just like an actual canoli! On top of being delicious, this was super reasonably priced. One of the only places here you can get legit mochi donuts. They also have cronuts. There are a bunch of different specials week days and weekends so worth a look. It is important to note that the goal of Dunlap's is to sell out. They are not continually making donuts throughout the day, so go early if you have something in mind. That being the most important part in getting specific delicious doughnuts I can now talk about the rest. Our personal favorites are the Ube, all of them and the Mochi donuts, also all. We are not a family that likes overly sweet donuts and these are perfectly sweet without being cloying. They do have some donuts that are overly sweet, to my palate but others may really like them. As an example they have donuts with candy and glaze with Oreo pieces, those are not my thing. Their variety to fit their customer base and the fact that people rush over before 7am to get their favorites is testament to their ability to please their clientele The customer service is always kind and patient. It is definitely a take out location and not a place to eat so do be aware. I don't think they have more than possibly one table. It is clean and the people make it welcoming. The pictures below are the display cases at about 6:30 am after my order was taken out, yes I went that early and yes it was worth it. Most unique donuts around. I'm told Ube (purple sweet potato) are only on Saturdays. I got one for my husband that isn't big on sweets. They had an in glazed one that was perfect for him. One daughter got maple/bacon and the other got one topped with crumbled mother's animal circus cookies. They also got a cinnamon sugar cronut to try for later. Everything was delicious. Some of the best donuts around Santa Cruz. I came here twice and both times the donuts were soft, fluffy, and addicting leaving you wanting another. And I did have another I always order two because you just have to do it. You have to get there early before all the good ones are gone.
