The class entails setting a real fire and learning from how quickly it spreads in simulated conditions. One was a bedroom setup and another a kitchen. It's done at the fire department for safety reasons. It's an absolutely fascinating experience, one I have done before in the past. Still it makes you pause to see the destructive power of fires. Bunch of my coworkers went to take these classes, it was a great experience. I added videos of the live burns. They are not the full videos, due to yelp limitations. It's a pretty decent falls so has to be really cold for weeks to freeze. To get the good view ... well you have to walk out on a ledge. That day it was still icy and slippery. I was alone and more than a little afraid of falling. But really afraid of falling off the ledge into the water or frozen water ... possibly to my death. The ledge to get the view i wanted is slanted down so being icy it was scary. after this stop i went to Charleston falls.

I heard about these falls on the news the previous weekend this May. While cliff diving looks appealing, the alluring, serene flow of the water hides a strong undertow, trapping the would-be swimmer / diver from surfacing. The warning signs pointing this is out are routinely stolen. As a result, local park servicemen have posted new signage deterring folks from jumping into the falls. The best way to enjoy these falls are from the banks or walking down the hidden stair case so you can be level with them. We opened some IPAs from the local Troy brewery, Moellers and watched the waters pass by. Nicole is local to this area and had never been here before. When asked, her parents recalled the Christmas light festivities that hung across the falls many years ago which was fun to go to. However, this annual activity is no longer. Definitely worth a stop if you like water falls.

He wanted to go to Kettering Main Campus & the paramedics encouraged us to go to Washington Township Kettering (Southview) which was a big mistake. Then as they took him on a stretcher to the ambulance, he told them he was freezing (it was between 1:00 and 2:00 am on April 4. They offered no blanket & said it would be warm in the truck - which it wasn't. The paramedics need to garner their arrogance and use it to be more kind and attentive to the patient. Kindness can go a long way.

Over the course of three days we trained over 6 scenarios (Hoarder House, Basement Fire, RIT, Firefighter Survival, Search, & Forcible Entry) split up into AM/PM sessions. Lunches were provided each day as well as plenty refreshments throughout the day to keep us hydrated during our evolutions. One of the great things about coming out here was the melting pot of firefighters from all over the country (even a few Canadians) that were present as we all learned in the name of becomes better firefighers. The instructor cadre was just as diverse as the students and they all were very knowledgeable about the craft and had a lot of years of experience between them. I plan on returning next year for the other classes that they offer here as well (Engine 1 & 2/Truck 1 & 2).
