Full disclosure: I am rife or die with AM Donuts. I don't eat many donuts anymore, but AM holds a…read morespecial place in my heart and stomach for several reasons. That said, I had occasional to be on the South side today and I had a hankering. That means one place and one place only: Gourmet Donut. As a young man, I thought I could eat infinite amounts of donuts and often tried to do so. Gourmet is perhaps the only place that forces me to tap out. The dough in their raised pastries is so soft and rich; the crust on the fry is so crunchy and well-executed; their icings and toppings are so thick and decadent that I should be done after one. I'm happy but mildly uncomfortable after two. I'm considering how far I can drive while in cardiac arrest midway through number three. And yet it takes every bit of willpower I can muster to save the next bite for "later". I don't know how they do it, especially at such low price points (a coconut cake donut and a maple bar set me back $2.57). Just know that if you need something good in your life; if you need something to put a smile on your face; or if you need to make your cardiologist actually EARN their money for a change, you should really pay Gourmet Donut a visit. So good.

Fruity cereal donut: Just had a light dusting of fruity pebble sugar on top…read more PBJ: had zero PBJ flavor. It just tasted like a plain sugared donut. Cookies & Cream: was sprinkled with chocolate cookie and had a light glaze. S'mores: Had a mini marshmallow on top, a very light glaze, and s'mores sugar on it. This was probably the best one. The donut texture was super fluffy and sweet. I also like that they are small bite sized. However, $12 for 12 mini donuts is not the best deal. The bag of 12 donuts they handed us was weightless. My son got the mini donut sundae. It was vanilla ice cream with 3-4 plain mini donuts in the middle and chocolate syrup on top. It was cool looking and was pretty decent but he wasn't blown away. Overall, I suggest going for fun to try it out but I don't see us returning. Also, if you are wanting a donut and maybe you're on a diet and just need a quick hit of donut, this place would be great for you. This is the same concept as Sugar Llamas in OKC. Sugar Llama is much much better. If you're looking for a 100% honest opinion, this is it.
