It is definitely one of my favorite desserts of all…read moretime and I am always willing to pay big money when it comes to original and great-tasting donuts. During a general assembly for one of my college organizations last year, we were given a free sample of a dark chocolate bacon-flavored doughnut. I didn't know what to expect. I thought it would be disgusting to mix something greasy and salty with something as sweet as chocolate. When I finally took a bite, I felt like I was in heaven. Who knew that a combination of bacon and chocolate would actually taste good? The moment I tasted that doughnut I immediately went to the Gavino's branch in SM Megamall a week later to check what other amazing pastries it has to offer. When I checked their menu, I noticed their famous Mochi Rings, which is a combination of Japanese mochi and doughnut. They also sell milk tea, coffee, and mochi balls, in case you're not in the mood to eat some doughnuts.

Attempting to describe Gavino's Donuts would be futile. They call their product mochi donuts. They…read morehave it in rings and in the smaller donut hole versions called mochi balls. As with any donut shop, I test just how good their product is by getting the classic glazed version. And theirs did not disappoint. Minus all the other ingredients you get to sample the base donut with a hint of sweetness. You bite into it and everything just seems to align -- it's gooey and chewy but a few bites more and you'll notice how it starts to melt in your mouth. I don't even know how it's possible to combine those two textures but they did. And it is really sinfully good. I love their unique flavors such as cinnamon sugar, sour cream, red velvet pistachio and the peanut butter and jelly mochi ball. Classic flavors are P33 each and Premium ones are P43 a piece. You can get them in boxes of 6, 12 or 24 and assorted. Don't miss out on trying this one, it really is one of the better donuts out there today.

Orbit Donuts has a very unique proposition compared to other donut shops: small munchkin-esque donuts, glazed with a powder of your choice. No toppings, no fillings. As a lover of the "plain donut," or basically, the plain glaze or sugar glaze of most donut places, Orbit Donuts is right up my alley. Their donuts are deep fried perfectly, getting to just the perfect golden brown that makes them smell absolutely amazing. The flavor powders they have are great: particularly their cinnamon and their sugar. If you want to try some more unique powders, I suggest the cheese powder. Really, you can't go wrong with a bag of orbit donuts for merienda or for sharing with friends. The untampered donut is a wondrous sight to behold.

Because really, who wouldn't want to eat these small, soft, fluffy delicious rings that can be made even more tasty with something as basic as sugar or something as fancy as cinnamon? Remember that famous ad from the 90s, with the tag line "once you pop, you can't stop"? That's exactly how I feel about Lil' Orbitz. It's just so delicious, I feel morose and get a bit sentimental when I dig into the bag and find that there are only few pieces left. Sometimes, I even tip the bag over just to get the rest of the flavoring so the taste can linger a bit longer in my mouth and my memory. Sounds a bit too much? Well, because I like Lil' Orbitz a tad bit too much, too.
