I have lived here since October 2020 after selling my house of 17 years, and don't have any plans…read moreto move any time soon. Homeownership and maintenance are highly overrated! There are many things to love about Pomona Park. My spouse and I live in the garden style buildings on the top floor. These apartments were constructed in the mid to late 1970s and are solid -- not shabby like the ones from the 80s and 90s and not flimsy like the ones built more recently. There is a foot of concrete between each floor so you don't hear much of anything from neighbors. There are few (if any) shared walls since the mechanical room is situated between each apartment. There are only 3-4 apartments on each floor! This place is quieter than it was when I lived in a townhouse. I have a 1550 sq ft 2BD 2BA unit. I have wood floors, modern appliances and tons of cabinet storage. We have so many closets! I love the layout of my apartment and the flow is much better than it was in my former house. If you are in the bedroom at one end and someone is in the living room watching TV you can barely hear it! I have a 13 x 7 foot balcony. Some units are bigger and some have even bigger balconies or patios. Some residents have huge hanging gardens on their balconies. A few ground floor folks treat the areas around their patios like a private garden with solarlights and garden gnomes. I doubt management has said a word to them about it. People put out nice patio furniture. No one steals it. Imagine that! There are storage rooms in some of the buildings. The fact that I can store camping gear and folding chairs and whatever in a ground level locked and climate controlled spot (not in my building but not a huge issue) is fantastic. There is tons of parking in front of each building. The gate is open during the day, so that delivery drivers can get in, At night the gate is monitored by a real live human being. No codes to remember. My fellow residents are quiet and keep to themselves. When you do see them, they are friendly and civil. The demographics skew to retirees and mature employed professionals. I work from home so I see what goes on here all day. And basically, that's nothing. There is NO PLAYGROUND and there seem to be very few children, although there are some. There are no groups of teens hanging around, no one gathering on the stairways, and I have never heard one loud party since I have been here. In fact, if there was anything approaching a loud party, I probably hosted it but no one complained to me. I have never seen any mice, no bugs, and people generally clean up after their dogs outside. There is a dog park. There is a place to vacuum out and wash your car. There are a few EV changing stations (hopefully they get more of those). There are 70 acres of grounds to walk around and tons of mature trees. The pool was recently renovated and is nice now but barely used by the residents -- although the management has held events to lure folks out. The pool had been enclosed and pretty much unusable for a couple of years and I think people just forgot about it. Frankly I am fine with fewer people there because when I go it is quiet and relaxing. Any maintenance issue I have had has been quickly addressed. It is true the management has changed, but I don't have any issues with the new folks. I think in some ways they are learning about the character of the community as much as we are learning about them. I think for a while, based on some of the events they were trying to organize, they were approaching Pomona Park like some other kinds of communities -- filled with people who were wanting to mingle and get to know each other. But that's not the people who are attracted to this place. Folks here want to mind their business and feel safe, and I do. Ok, so I have said a lot of nice things about Pomona Park. What do I hate? I don't hate much. I am not a huge fan of the super bright lampposts they installed a while ago. For real that thing shines into my living room at night. I use plants to block it. But I suppose it was seen as a security measure from the herd of deer that grazes at night. The layout of the community is confusing to delivery drivers and the signage is not great. Sometimes my packages get misdelivered. I have lost 2 packages over the course of the nearly 3 years I have lived here. I am in a West building and sometimes my package goes the same number in the North section. Annoying, but I just go fetch it. And the #1 thing I don't like about living here is the sound of traffic from 695. I didn't thoroughly consider that when we selected this community. It is far less noticeable in the winter and it ebbs and flows during the day. But going forward, I will definitely consider proximity to a major highway regardless of where I live next. LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! Overall I think Pomona Park is a good value for the money. It possesses all the important features we wanted for a price we could afford.

Management keeps focusing on residents, when even they acknowledge this is a clean community. Parent mice may be around for two years and are able to produce as many as ten litters - approximately sixty mice - each year. Then factor in every litter is ready to procreate after another six weeks. Additionally, house mice live twice as long when living in the home's walls or foundation and mate year-round. This is how an infestation occurs. Surprised the first line managers are allowed to have this lackadaisical approach as mice's incisor teeth grow permanently and they have to chew to keep them down, you can only imagine the damage being done inside the buildings. The pool here has not been usable for two years. It is an indoor pool and is not heated, although it could be, so it is unbelievable cold even on the hottest day. At one time the apartments were being renovated but that has ceased. It is a shame these apartments are going downhill, because the concept is amazing. The apartments are huge, each building has only 12 units and it is situated in a park-like setting. These were solidly built in the fifties so you will never get this again.

The leasing officer was professional and assured her the unit would be ready by her move in date. I was excited for her and WAS a potential tenant. Fast forward to the move in date....I helped her move into her apartment and notice some things that changed my mind about moving to this complex: Pros: 1-Neighborhood is nice 2- Quiet neighborhood 3- Gated community Cons: 1-Never enough parking. She's looking for parking as I'm typing this review! 2-Maintenance is very subpar and unresponsive. She called about all these issues....no response from maintenance. 3- Screws were EVERYWHERE on the grey carpet. My nephew and I kept stepping on them. We picked up at least 10 of them the first night. The next day my cousin found more screws on the floor. 4-One of the doors is broke. 5-One of the light plates is missing. 6- Maintenance left their supply box, broom, and dust pan in the unit. 3 days later it's still in her unit! 7- And, to top it off....a foul smell was coming from behind the stove. My uncle moved the stove and found 2 dead mice!!! She called maintenance and again...they were unresponsive. She hasn't been there a week and has all these issues. I have definitely changed my mind about moving to this complex! No thanks! I will look at complexes in Owings Mills or Columbia.

When I started living here nearly 4 years ago it was wonderful. We had great and responsive…read moremanagement, lots of helpful service techs that came right away, problems were fixed fast, and the management went above and beyond for residents. Now, it feels like I'm living in a motel 6 while this place is marketed as a "luxury" building. I am a breast feeding mother, I have a newborn in my home. My freezer with all my breast milk repeatedly breaks and the new management has done NOTHING. They've basically swapped my fridge with another fridge from another apartment (same model) that seems to have the same issue. After they brought me a replacement fridge after days of hassle to even get that the same issue is happening. I call the front desk and the new manager basically says "well the fridge was fine before" as if a working, breastfeeding mother with a newborn has nothing better to do than to purposely break appliances and empty several refrigerators while they continue to "replace" them with more broken ones. And now the same issue is happening again and my husband and I scrambling to save whatever breast milk we can. Does management care? No. I don't know if they realize there is a formula shortage and breast milk is not a replaceable resource!! It takes hours of effort to make. This is the only food for my baby. To top this list of my laundry machine is very loud (again I have a baby at home!), all of the things that were "included" in rent are no longer provided : no more No more utilities, no more front desk, packages are just left all over the halls, all the things the previous management did to make residents feel special is done. Like some more recent reviewers said, don't read the old reviews for this place when making your decision, read the new ones.

I currently live at The Residences at Oella Mill. My husband and I have lived here for 3 years…read more Until 6-9 months ago this was a fantastic place to live. There were resident activities, quiet peaceful neighbors and a real sense of community. Sadly this place has changed, and in my opinion not for the good. The setting of the property is like out of a story book, nobody can deny that. The views over the Patapsco from my apartment are outstanding and I can watch bald eagles fly by daily. The condition of the building is also stellar, the cleaning and maintenance crews do an amazing job keeping the building and the grounds beautiful. Additionally, my apartment is a fantastic blend of modern and period architecture. It is a beautiful physical space to come home to. This is why I am giving this property 2 stars. For the reasons I am not giving more, please read on... The problem is with the management of the building and with the building's owners, Southern Management. There have been several changes over the last year that have made this an increasingly less desirable place to call home. For example, several resident amenities have been reduced or eliminated altogether, residents are treated and made to feel like children, resident concerns are given the brush off, building management would prefer to sit in their offices rather than mingle with residents and changes to corporate policy are going to result in huge increases in rents being collected by residents already paying a premium. When we moved in this was an "all inclusive" community, residents were not "nickel and dimed" at every turn. Moving forward, what was all inclusive (electric, water, trash, maintenance, etc...) will now be billed to each resident. This essentially is a rent increase because each of these items were previously included in the rent paid. Also, it has not been made clear to any resident how they plan on determining the amount to be paid (apartments are not individually metered). A friend of ours had trouble with the door lock to the apartment. This friend was charged to have the lock fixed. Isn't this the responsibility of a landlord to fix? Why is a resident being charged for a maintenance request? Just this morning my husband returned home from work at 3am to find someone had parked in his reserved space in the parking garage. This has happened to me on two other occasions previously. The building management simply shrugs its shoulders and says we need to give them time to move their vehicle. Further research concluded that the front office made a mistake and assigned another vehicle the spot we already pay for. Yes, parking in the garage is an extra fee. Instead of apologizing for the snafu, I was snapped at and made to feel like I was a bully for complaining. No, I pay a premium price for you to do your job, and expect a sincere apology and explanation when something goes wrong. These are just a few examples of the issues both we and other residents are currently experiencing living at Oella Mill. Trust me, there are many, many more. The Residences at Oella Mill was once the premier apartment community in Howard/Baltimore counties. Sadly, you are now being asked to pay an incredibly premium price for sub-premium customer service and amenities. Do yourself a favor and look at other properties, I know I am.
