The hotel is in a great walkable location, the room was spacious and the bed was so comfy. Parking is problematic. They provide the option to valet, but since the hotel is on a corner it's hard to get in there when other cars are coming from both directions and the parking garage is confusing as well. They do let you pay for parking when you check in which is cheaper than what the garage charges which was great to note. The hotel has an old feeling when you walk in. A bar on the first floor and restaurant which I enjoyed for breakfast only. In the room, I would have enjoyed to have more accessible outlets for my devices. Many hotels have lamps that have usb plug ins and that would have been helpful. And in the morning, I didn't find out about the water heater breaking until I went to breakfast so I couldn't take a hot shower. They did provide a discount for those reasons which I found helpful. read more

Got to stay during the mid-week. The location is perfect to be near anything you want Uptown. It is a vintage hotel, so it's cool for the experience. Good night's rest in a comfy bed. It was good for the most part. Just got a strange vibe from the staff of looks that came across.... "What are you doing here?" What Happened: Strong natural gas odor in both elevators that service the hotel we Immediately reported the safety hazard to hotel staff member Louis on October 27-28 Louis claimed they would "check on it" but allegedly found nothing Multiple guests confirmed they also smelled the gas - this was not isolated We were forced to leave early for our safety Hotel's Response: Refused to provide any refund despite the legitimate safety concern Dismissive attitude toward what could have been a life-threatening situation Failed to take appropriate action even with multiple guest reports No concern for guest safety or well-being The Bottom Line: When multiple guests report smelling natural gas, any responsible hotel management would immediately evacuate the area and call professionals. Instead, The Dunhill Hotel ignored the safety concerns and refused compensation when we had no choice but to leave. Natural gas leaks can cause explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning. The fact that management (General Manager Jordan Kayser and Assistant General Manager Sole Keyes) were notified but took no meaningful action is deeply concerning. No guest should have to choose between their safety and their money. Not only that Sole berated me and was super disrespectful and said that we would not get a refund for the nights that we did not stay there. We needed a nice place to stay while we were having renovations done on our home and thought that we should support a local non chain hotel. BIG MISTAKE. I love the feel of a boutique hotel. The lobby was nice...the room was very basic. I paid for the 'superior' queen suite. Room was okay, no real complaints aside from how basic and small it felt compared to newer hotels. The bathroom was a joke, the sink and vanity were tiny, there was a shower and no tub. Hot water worked well but there was NO pressure. It took like 10 min to wash shampoo out of my hair. No ice buckets in room and mini fridge did not cool drinks that were put in overnight. The restaurant in the hotel is highly advertised. Since breakfast isn't included in the cost of the room, I decided to give the room service a try and got the ultimate breakfast. It was cold, the biscuit was hard and dry, like it was days old. The eggs tasted weird, like they weren't real. Bacon was okay but tasted the same as any complimentary meal at any hotel. So, $20 wasted. Aside from the tiny keurig in the room, there was no hot coffee in the lobby this morning. The coffee was empty and there wasn't any creamer. Parking deck is attached to hotel but not included in cost to stay, so an additional $30 charge for overnight parking. So, in total, I spent $250 on a small, basic room with a queen bed and a hardly working shower. It felt like the hotel used to be a lovely atmosphere because it really is beautiful in the lobby and other common areas, but the vibe is lacking polish now. The service was sub par, the hotel and room weren't extremely clean and it seemed like the staff did the bare minimum, from what I could see. To me, it felt like a $89 quality inn room with the level of service and cleanliness. I feel that basics, like coffee in the lobby and customer service, should be expected in a boutique hotel experience and there was nothing about my experience that was above and beyond anything. I'm having major buyers remorse that I didn't book the $113 king suite at a competing hotel with free parking and complimentary breakfast, and a jacuzzi tub. The wine selection is decent with reasonable prices compared to most places downtown Charlotte. Just great elegant surroundings. You just want to hunker down and cool out. This hotel is located in an area where people drive their cars up and down the street all night, revving their engines and playing their stereos at top volume. I don't mean once or twice, it's dozens of cars and it goes on all night. I should have known something was up when earplugs were included in the amenities packet - clearly the hotel knows this is an issue. It is impossible to sleep, it's like NASCAR combined with a rave happening right outside your window. The hotel itself is nice enough, although in a state of general disrepair. Our room did not have a dresser but had a desk like one would have in a cubicle office. The water in the shower came out brown so I didn't use it. We were supposed to stay two nights but fled after one. Very definitely NOT worth what we paid. read more

Arrived at this hotel around 1230 at night. The guy at the desk was steadily bashing American Airlines. We had a voucher from American Airlines because our flight was canceled. He told me that he gave us a "upgrade "to a king size bedroom on the Fourth and fifth floors. If that was the upgrade, I would hate to see the regular room. The place is a historic hotel and on the smaller side. It had some features however, I don't think the interesting features outweigh the lack of amenities. They tried though, the bed was fairly comfortable. They have zero handicap access in this hotel. No one mentions this in advance. We came in with wheelchair and had to walk down a dark alley to go in the back to get in. They had no rooms with bars in the shower so my mother couldn't use the shower. They put bottled water in your room and then have a sign on it that says it's five dollars per bottle!! I guess this isn't the Hilton SMH. It's in a relatively quiet corner of downtown, there wasn't anything within walking distance except the children's museum which was across the street. The furniture was kind of mismatched. I didn't try the TV, but it was perhaps a bit smaller than average. The room was adequate for me as I don't need the handicap access, but it was very difficult for my mother. The thing that just put a bad taste in my mouth was the Clerk, A sweaty middle-aged man straight up bashing American Airlines the entire time we were waiting in line to check in. The African-American guy at the door was super sweet and nice. I mean if you don't want all that guaranteed business from American Airlines then just say no but don't sit there talking garbage about an airline like they're causing you trouble because they're sending you business. Sheesh. The room was clean. The bathroom was clean the hallways were slightly worn and dingy. I would not stay here again, but some people I think may like the historic nature of the location and if that's your thing then maybe this would be a good place for you. read more

Cold iced water with fruit and cucumbers in the lobby along with an excellent selection of organic botanical teas or coffee always available to refresh. The staff was friendly and very helpful with suggestions on things to do. A special thank you to Shana and Micah!! After our stay, we were mystified by the positive reviews. Sure, the location was great, but not only was it short on amenities, it was short on basics. The following is a list of things we thought were standard in hotels in 2025, but apparently are not when the hotel is "historic:" -mini fridge -a table to sit at -ice to take to your room -a vent in the bathroom, either for air conditioning or ventilation -a bathtub that isn't frighteningly slippery -cold water from your faucet (only hot and warm were available) -enough lighting in your room to see at night -being able to get your luggage to reception without having to drag it up a half flight of stairs while the staff stare and watch you struggle. I should add that we were there during a terrible heat wave, and the air conditioning in the lobby was out. Which we know can happen, having dealt with such things in home before, but the a/c was also out in our room...and that's when we learned that they didn't have a maintenance person or a manager on call on a Friday night. What kind of hotel has no maintenance or manager even on call on a weekend? It turned out there would be no manager there until Monday. Maybe she didn't want to stick around in the heat that her employees had to work in, but what is the point of having a maintenance person or manager, if they can't even be reached on a weekend when your hotel is supposedly booked? And since the a/c was out in the lobby and restaurant downstairs, and no one had done anything to ameliorate it, (such as set up fans or purchase a portable a/c unit), it made spending any time in the restaurant undesirable, at best. Speaking of being told the hotel was booked (and that was why we couldn't move to another room with a/c), we only saw a handful of people during the 3 nights we were there, and only ever saw or heard one other person on our entire floor. Was it really booked? So with the lobby a/c out and the room a/c out during a heat wave, we had to depend on the functioning a/c in the hallway and a jar of fruity cold water that was sitting in the lobby for guests to keep from succumbing to heat exhaustion. Also, it's worth noting that there was drag racing on the street outside every night. So we were destined not to sleep much, anyway. The two stars are for the location, which is very convenient for downtown Charlotte, and the restaurant, which was good. The wait staff were also very nice. Kudos to them for maintaining their friendliness and composure while having no air conditioning. If this is what "historic" really means, I think next time we'll go "modern." read more

The Dunhill is a Charlotte Staple. This is an old hotel, the oldest in Charlotte and has just gotten a facelift on all the rooms. The best thing about this hotel is that it is quiet. My friend rented the penthouse to get ready for her wedding. The space is a one-bedroom apartment with two balconies. This room begs for a staycation, with breakfast on your little patio. There are many reasons to choose the Dunhill if you are visiting Charlotte, first of all, you can't beat the location and if you enjoy a cocktail or two, they have a quaint, little bar in the lobby that serves delicious, balanced cocktails. And the restaurant The Asbury is a Charlotte favorite, it isn't just a hotel restaurant. And I didn't mention the view! Some rooms have gorgeous views of the city. Yes, five stars all the way for me. I stayed here for 4 nights and loved every moment of it. From the amazing service to the charming vibe of this historic hotel, I am at a loss by the mixed reviews. They are currently going through renovations on some of their floors but even the work crews were super friendly and nice. Service: From the moment I arrived every single staff member I encountered was so nice and welcoming, always checking to see how I was doing or if I needed anything. I absolutely loved the you man who was walking around checking on the different floors and doing housekeeping/cleanup along with the young lady who does turn down service. Common areas: So charming and like stepping back in time, they stay on top of the cleaning, which has to be particularly hard during a renovation. The bar and restaurant were fantastic as well, as I had a great meal at The Asbury one evening. They only had one operational elevator during my stay but that was no big deal, as there are only 60 rooms I believe. Room: I was on the 9th floor and loved my room. It was clean, super comfortable and adorably decorated. Sleep quality was on point and I loved the robes, toiletries and the Ghiradelli chocolate they put on the bed for turn down service. My only disappointment was not having any ghost encounters as I was reading that room 906 is haunted along with the floor. Parking: There is a very easily accessible parking garage with reserved parking spots for guests right as you come in off of 6th. You get a ticket, and you MUST take it in and get it validated to pay the $23 self parking fee. It is $2 bucks more if you do not know that and just stick it in the machine upon exit without validation. I did not know that for three days, but the staff was wonderful and took the 3 days parking off of my room since I had paid directly. Location: right downtown within walking distance of so much. I loved walking a block each morning to get my Starbucks fix. I would totally stay here again if I am ever back in Charlotte. read more

Girl, like me always looks for this best bang for our buck. As, you know parking downtown can be costly. This package came with complimentary parking that was very convenient to the door without walking a block with heavy suitcase. Love this, it's the small things with details that get me excited. We also had two options add-on amenities that came with the package. We chose the evening tea with dessert for two. At $324 a night this hotel is gorssly overpriced. The hotel is an older property desperately in need of renovation. The rooms are small and have few amenities. The room was so small that the desk chair wouldn't fit under the desk because the bed was in the way. There was no mini-bar and the bottled water was $5. Again, at a high-end hotel, this is a give-away item. At $325 a night I expect fine sheets, a free breakfast and updated bathroms supplied with high-end cleansing products. I found none of those. This hotel should be priced at $125 a night for the value given. Save your money and go to the Westin instead. read more

Nightmare from start to... now. Our room had an AC that made a loud thumping noise and wouldn't cool the room from 73 degrees. When I called, instead of apologizing or saying saying she'd do something, the front desk clerk told us they were a boutique hotel and the AC didn't work well and they had no more rooms (note: we never asked for a new room, just wanted someone to fix the loud thumping noise). She said she'd call with an update and we went out for the evening. We figured worst case we'd just turn off the AC. Came back, went into our room and saw NOT OUR STUFF. Turns out they moved us, didn't tell us, and didn't rekey the room. They moved us four floors up to a room that registered a balmy 82 DEGREES. It also had no outlet to plug in my husbands CPAP machine unless he chooses to sleep on the floor or we disassemble the bed to get to the outlet buried behind it. Not sure what genius thought the solution was to sweat us out upstairs and touch all our things without even attempting to ask or notify us. Now waiting for the "offsite manager" to call. Kind of like waiting for the clerk to call before making the "executive" decision to move us to a room 10 degrees hotter than the last one and sell our room to someone else. Oh, I was in there long enough to see they provided a nice fan to whoever is in that room now. No fan for us, though, at 82 degrees and rising. Worst service in my entire life - no offense to the gentleman who now is working at the desk and got stuck dealing with the aftermath in lieu of the so-called "offsite manager" who never called us. I am pretty convinced she doesn't exist - CHRISTY, still waiting for that call... Everything started out fine, room is great front desk staff was very good. Then it went to crap. Front desk guy asked me time for romance package 639 pm it showed up at 5 pm. Went to dinner and the associate manager dropped the ball and forgot to make our dinner reservations at The Asbury and even called me back and asked is it for something special? I said in fact it's my wife's birthday! I will take care of it and we will see you then. What can I say about this amazing hotel? From the very first moment that we walked into the beautiful lobby, the receptionist to check us in was vivacious and friendly. She was totally professional and helpful. We checked into our beautiful room. Which had two windows that looked out over the beautiful city. The bathroom was marble with the best shower I have ever used at a hotel. The flow of water was amazing. The bed was super comfortable. And we really enjoyed our four night stay If and when I return to Charlotte, I will only stay at the Dunhill. , I was kind of looking for the ghost experience as well since I understood that it was supposed to be haunted, but the only thing that happened during our stay was my cell phone got unplugged twice. If I could give zero stars for our experience at this hotel, I would. It was the absolute worst. It started when I pulled in the parking lot and the gate opened without giving me a ticket. The front desk told me I would have to pay for a $25 lost ticket fee to get out even though we never lost the ticket or were given one. We checked in without issue and got to our room where we found it to be 78 degrees even though it was 50 degrees outside, and heated air was being blown into our room. We notified the front desk and the young guys were very nice, but they said they had so many complaints, they had no idea what to do. We checked in late, 12:30 AM, so we didn't want to have to find a new spot on a Saturday night. We agreed to stay, but the night would be compensated. We went back to our sweaty room and opened the bathroom door to find a half inch of water on the floor and the roof dripping constantly. One of the elevators also didn't work. We had enough and called the front desk. They said they couldn't do anything as they were already overbooked, and their manager wasn't calling back. We told them we were leaving and they understood. We were left to find a hotel at 3 am on a Saturday night after we had this place booked for a few weeks. Avoid this place if you can as there has to be better options in the area. This was truly the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. read more

Great location and some good people that work there. I made my reservations a couple months before my trip, and to my surprise, they added $100 to my second night (Sat). When I inquired at checkout, I was first told "Weekend nights are more". When I informed her that I stayed Fri and Sat night, and that both those nights were weekend nights ... and that I made reservations long before that did not include the extra $100, I was told twice "We reserve the right to change prices without notice." Also, for the first 12 hours, the water was rusty and smelled. I finally let it run for a full 30 minutes and the yellowish color disappeared. I was about to turn around & complain about it but thought I'd check out the room. Too tired to haggle with the unhelpful staff by the time I got checked in. Fortunately, my hotel room was clean and comfortable upon arrival. Nothing too impressive, though. My travel planner made the reservation, so I didn't have any high expectations. I like historic boutique hotels, so that was a plus. Nonetheless, it seems this property is really missing out on a great opportunity here in the middle of the Charlotte action. Staff and decor is really lacking in charm and warmth. Seems like the Dunhill is operating as a mid-level hotel while trying to pretend it's a top-tier property. The lifeless Front Desk & Manager made it clear that I was lucky to receive a complimentary upgrade to a deluxe room which has more space. If that's true, then I definitely pity the people who get the non-deluxe rooms I booked originally. It was just me alone, staying 1 night, so the room met my needs. And while my room was not flashy in any way (my room reminded me of a nice guest room of a cottage) I have to admit that the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept on at a hotel! Additionally, the location is incredibly convenient since you're in the heart of uptown Charlotte. If you're a frequent hotel hopper, keep in mind of a few luxuries lacking: 1) Dated temperature control - old school dial that was difficult to adjust kept me sweating at night. 2) No room service or mini bar, but there were a few complimentary waters and sodas in the fridge that were welcome for guests to enjoy. I really enjoy this hotel. I've stayed here a few times now and it's very comfortable. The first time I stayed, I told the front desk it was my first time in Charlotte and they gave me a corner room on one of the top floors so I could have a great view of the city. This time I'm in a regular room -- view isn't as nice and the bathroom is much smaller than the last time, but the room itself is nicer, with a couch and coffee tale so I don't mind. Super helpful staff too! The only reason I took off a star is because I do this some things could be a little cleaner. The bedding, sink and shower were spotless, but sometimes the towels are ratty and the curtains have a stain or two. Not a huge deal, but it's still something I noticed. A terrible dated place! Do not stay here We checked in the hotel the evening of the game, dropped off our bag and went to the game. Came back at 1am in the night. When we got back, the room was very warm, lowered the temperature but the AC/ heating did not work. We were unable to get any sleep and we kept thinking the room will cool down till 3 in the morning. After that it was too late to call anyone as we had to leave at 7am. It looks like the hotel management does not even check if basic appliances and lights are in working condition. The room itself is very dark with very few lights. To top that, out bedside lamp on one side was not working. There are no charging ports or electrical outlets on either side of the bed. There is old Ihome on one side of the bed that I moved to the other side to get a charging port. The furniture is very very old with scratch marks and chips. No safe to keep your secure items. Walls are extremely thin. You can hear conversations in the hallway and in the next room so clearly as if it were happening in your room! Was a bit scary as I heard crying twice and then realized it was from the adjoining room! All in all a terrible experience, not worth the money. Do not stay! read more
