Great school with great teachers. Somewhat new of a play ground. Nice campus however parking is a nightmare. Get there early!

This is more of a review of their green space and outdoor rec equipment than of the actual school…read more Although I can say I did go here for Kindergarten, 1st and 3rd grades and had a good enough time as a lad (except that one time I had detention during recess on my 7th birthday -- that totally sucked). I come here nowadays because I live nearby and there's plenty of space for outdoor exercise. There're three levels to the property. At the top of the hill sits the school and new playground equipment. The second level offers a basketball court, more playground equipment for older kids, an adult exercise area, plus a baseball field. I'll often come here to shoot some hoops or throw some frisbees across the field if it's empty. When there are families and dog walkers taking up level two, the third level at the bottom of the hill offers an expansive field. There's a fence for the back of a baseball diamond, but the baseball field is pretty much abandoned. This is great for disc golf field work, sprints, etc. You'll see lots of folks letting their dogs run loose on this field as well. Room for improvement: For one, the basketball court is old. The hoops have been there since the '70s or '80s and are pretty crappy. It'd be nice to if they'd tear up the blacktop, level it out and put in some nice new baskets. Two, the fields on both the second and third levels do not get mowed very often in the summer, especially the third. This property is basically a school and a park in one, and makes up half of the namesake of the Metcalfe-Harrison neighborhood.

Our goal is to help children reach their full potential in all areas of life by allowing them the freedom to pursue their interests under the guidance of a specially trained Montessori teacher. The Montessori approach begins with a specifically designed environment that gives access to a variety of materials and objects to help children learn through exploration. This self-directed learning allows children to develop their unique talents and abilities through their own learning style, while building confidence and a sense of independence. Key to our philosophy is the interaction among children of different ages in the same classroom, which promotes healthy socialization and mentoring. In addition to independent projects, students also engage in small and large group activities that broaden their horizons and teach both creative and practical skills. The teacher plays a critical role as guide, mentor and facilitator, monitoring progress and encouraging children to add new experiences and projects as appropriate.
