Dunbar did a complete renovation for us in 2017. We went down to studs in existing house and added 1100 sq ft to house. Scott kept to planned 6 month time frame and budget. That seems to be a problem. Scott came out to our house. Measured everything and wanted to send an estimate. Since 6 weeks we have not heard anything ! After I followed up with Cathy, she promised to talk to Scott. Never ever we heard anything. Well, we found another contractor. Not even a note from Cathy or Scott. They want to be so professional, but they are not !!!! Don't hire them. read more

Same exact issue as Nancy C. We actually liked the work they did for another neighbor and called them mentioning the referral. Left 3 messages over a 10 day period and finally sent an email that was answered 2 days later. Promised to call twice, never heard from anyone. That was 3 weeks ago, we found someone else and the work is already done. Have since heard that this has been a trend past couple years, would not recommend getting involved with this contractor. read more

We needed to have our kitchen and adjacent laundry room renovated, and we love what Dunbar did for us -- the project management, craftsmanship, and anticipation of what we needed. We had had a pipe leak that caused damage, so we took the opportunity to redo both areas. We were given a recommendation for Dunbar, who were able to start within a couple of weeks (to me, not at all bad in this time of Covid). My wife has a disability that had to be taken into account: They anticipated her needs, suggested meaningful ideas, and made it work. I'm impressed with the result. The space is comfortable. They solved some key problems for us that would otherwise have popped up before long. Their attention to detail was very good. (We had some work done years ago by a well-known kitchen company, who cut corners and left some problems we discovered only later. Dunbar did far better). And I liked the guys who worked here. My wife and I decided to contract a 'complete kitchen/dinette re-do' as our retirement present to each other a few years ago. Our house was built near the end of WWII and we purchased it in 1978. In the ensuing years, we have remodeled, rebuilt, replaced, and added new areas to our home. Among other contractors, we had received 'rave reviews' from friends who had contracted work performed by Dunbar Construction. As an aside, I will admit we DID have issues with Cathy Dunbar, Scott's sister, who is the Dunbar Construction Company 'business manager' and sets up appointments and arranges for payments to suppliers. She was somewhat 'abrasive' with us in a few instances, including work specifically part of our contract. She claimed 'sealing the floor and wall tiles was NOT included' until I directed her to the "chapter and verse" of the signed contract where that task was specified. The tile sealing was completed that same afternoon. I totally understand Nancy and Todd's complaints (in the recent reviews) regarding Cathy Dunbar, and once my wife and I figured out how to handle Cathy, she did not remain a problem to our construction progress. Scott Dunbar has a college degree related to architectural construction and was able to design our new kitchen/dinette area to provide more counter space (our prime concern) AND better traffic patterns. We were BOTH impressed with his ideas and suggestions for our kitchen/dinette (he was thinking 'out-of-the-box') and extremely pleased with the finished product. He sets up a plan of action for the project and he bills for work completed as it progresses. His initial quote was quite reasonable for the work we wanted, which included leveling the kitchen floor from the initial dinette construction by a previous contractor and replacing old iron supply lines with new PEX lines to the second floor master bath as these were embedded in a kitchen wall and ceiling. We had the benefit of relocating to our RV about 25 miles west of our home (in East Beverly Hills) during the construction, allowing Mr. Dunbar and his crew full access to the work areas without having to reconnect kitchen water and power on a nightly basis. Our garage was used for storage of building materials and the new appliances which would be installed, and a dumpster trailer was parked on our driveway. Our rear deck was covered with wood sheeting to protect the surface, and boards were placed over grassy areas between the house and driveway to minimize' traffic' damage. All work was completed in a six-week period and the final price was LESS THAN his original bid! There was no mess (everything was cleaned up on a daily basis and plastic sheeting was installed to prevent the spread of dust and debris to the rest of the house) nor were there any incomplete tasks requiring a member of the Dunbar team to return to complete them. Did I say we were extremely pleased with the finished project? "In a heart-beat", we would call Dunbar Construction for any new projects we might consider in the future, if there were any! Our new kitchen/dinette area is beautiful and we have received rave compliments from all our friends and neighbors who have seen it. I am truly saddened by the negative reviews Dunbar Construction Company has received, but having seen the fine work they provide, I would encourage prospective clients to hire the Dunbar Construction team; you will not be disappointed! We wanted a quote for a kitchen remodel. Note: They are open until 3:30pm. I called Monday 6/5 and left a message for a call back. No call back. Tues 6/6 called and left another message for a call back. No call back. Wed. 6/7 called and left another message for a call back. No call back. Thurs. 6/8, same story - no call back. On Friday 6/9 Kathy called me back. I was at work so I missed her call. When I got out of work at 2pm (they're open till 3:30p remember), I called back. She answered and while I was telling her my name and what I wanted, she interrupted me saying "yeah, yeah, yeah". Very rude. She then proceeded to say that she was "really busy, has a busy weekend planned, was walking out the door and will call me back on Monday 6/12" then abruptly hung up. As of today, 6/16, she has not called me back and I haven't heard from anyone from Dunbar. Even if they rolled out the red carpet for me now, I would NEVER go with this company. If I could give it zero stars I would rate them a zero. DON'T HIRE THIS COMPANY!!!! NOT RELIABLE!!!! Can you imagine them promising to start your job on a certain day then them never showing or being unreliable as to the timeline? Reliability is a real important factor when hiring a contractor. Can't say enough bad things about this company. Hope this helps someone. July 25, 2017 Update: I still havent gotten a call back!!!! read more
