    Coffee Chocolate

This is a neat place to try when in Mexico City. A friend of mine recommended this. There are a lot of options, but unfortunately they don't give samples. I asked them which items were most popular and picked a couple based off of that. The coffee chocolate is quite strong but tasty. The chocolate with nuts was delicious and rich. They do sale by weight, so it's not really possible to get 1 or 2 of each, you have to get a minimum weight of each. Overall, great experience and high quality chocolate. Check it out.

In business since 1874, this shop has had enough time to perfect their really, incredibly sweet and delicious candies. I lose any semblance of willpower when I see the display of coconut confections. Even if you don't buy anything -- and I don't know how it's humanly possible -- step through the door and walk into 1874.

I stopped by to pick up some typical Mexican candy for my mother. Staff was really helpful and gave me a couple free samples.

Good chocolate and very good leche quemada. But, very expensive. Ok for a little treat though.

Their turron is different than the Spanish style - they do not use whole almonds and the nougat surrounding the almonds is thinner so it gives a different experience because of texture.

They were beautifully made. No one in our group actually tried the chocolates so I cannot comment on if they tasted as good as they looked. We all bought 3 types of chocolate drinks. 1 that was dark and hot, 1 that was cold and sweeter, and 1 that was cold and kinda spicy. The drinks came in little cups that you poured into gourds, a very authentic experience. When I imagine hot chocolate I think of a more cream rich European style chocolate and this was different than expected. It was much more watery with nib chocolate nip remnants throughout for what we ascertained to be a Mexican style chocolate drink. We all enjoyed the dark and sweet chocolate drinks but the cold spicy drink smelled like red bean and didn't have the most pleasant flavor or texture. I would come again for the authentic experience and the two drinks that we really enjoyed.

The rice milk chocolate, light and toasty, was a revelation. The biggest surprise was when I got home and began eating the truffles, maybe it was that I was back in my element and more centered, but I was amazed how good these chocolates are, the perfect craftsmanship, and the pop of flavors. I wish I bought more boxes!

I can't go back to American hot chocolate and my wallet is cooked. The staff were quiet but kind and brought the drink to my table. I wasn't sure if I'm supposed to leave my cup so I brought it back down from the loft. The variety of chocolate available is impressive for a small shop. The prices are a bit high but beat what I can get at home for sure. I'm not enough a connoisseur to compare different chocolate qualities but I expect a pleasant graininess from small shards of cacao nibs but my brew was smooth as can be. However, the taste was pleasant and might be a plus for those who want a smoothly textured chocolate.

This place is poppin', there's buskers, live music, and lots of people enjoying a meal on their work break, or just between friends catching up. I even peeped some cuties on a first date. The vibes are great for people watching and just enjoying some time alone. I went with their cacao fermantado con leche. Beware fermentado first timers, that your GI may be feeling mobile and explosive. I loved that they had different percentages of cacao so you can really customize. I was bummed that my drink tasted like the dish soap that was used to clean the cup. Chocolate caliente is literally my fave thing to try en Mexico so that was a disappointment. Regardless, nobody does chocolate caliente like Mexicanos! I also treated myself to a galleta con chispas shaped in a cute little dinosaur, but I would skip that. It wasn't really tasty and was a bit stale. I had my eye on their brownie and that decadent cake, I should've gone with that instead. In all, cute spot, low-key vibes, and lots of single origin, trace-able and local chocolate which is ALWAYS the energy we are bringing as globally-conscious travellers/turistas. Would def come again.
