This place came highly recommended by several friends. I almost missed the shop as it's very discreet and there are lots of trees around it. After asking the staff a few questions which she was very helpful with, I ordered an iced chocolate(50%) with milk. It was smooth and delicious , not overly sweet and I could definitely appreciate the chocolate content. I loved the quietness of the outdoor tables and will be back to enjoy more drinks.

Stumbled upon this little chocolate shop while walking around the city and wow it took me by surprise! The chocolates were great, so many different types of options mostly bars and wrapped hot chocolate..wish they had offered more because it was so good! Also got some hot chocolate and it was our of this world. The service was just great! The baristas were super kind and answered all of our questions! Love the feel of this cozy little spot, not too much seating but there's a few chairs and tables on the outside.

Ordered: Cacao Lavados - Semi Amargo 50% Cacao con Leche (MX $85) Cacao Fermentados - Semi Amargo 50% Cacao con Leche (MX $88) Galleta con Chispas (MX $40) aka Dark Chocolate Chip Butter Cookie Aya's take: When I came across La Rifa and heard that Noma in Copenhagen sources their cacao from them, I was excited to stop by! The Cacao Lavados and Fermentados were made fresh to order. The cacao they use is super rich, dense, and lightly sweet. I think 2 people could share one rather than getting two but we wanted to try them both. The Lavados has a more silky smooth texture than the Fermentados and is slightly sweeter. The Galleta con Chispas was buttery, chocolately, and rich although it didn't taste super fresh. I appreciated that they warmed it up for us which made a big difference! Cute little chocolatier with friendly staff!

From the growers to the roasters to making the drinks and the chocolate bars, La Rifa manages the process from start to finish. It is the best tasting chocolate from the purest source. They serve fermented and non-fermented cacao drinks, bar chocolate, espresso drinks, and small bites (like tamales and other things). Located right in the middle of Washington Square in the neighborhood of Juarez in CDMX, it is a comfortable, relaxing and trendy little square to stop and relax and enjoy your cafecito or cacao drinks.

Great place to just come and chill on a warm spring evening. Thanks to all the Yelp and google reviews who led me here. We tried the chocolate tamal, Amargo with milk hot and amargo with water cold. Wow, just amazing, the taste is delicious and unique, and still a highlight of my two week trip. I would have to say the libations, both alcoholic and non alcoholic, in this country are outstanding and this place is one of them so if you are in the area, make your way here to try it. Not too big of a place, was able to snag a seat outside, and complimentary refillable drinking water there to rinse your pallette before trying another drink.

Delicious cacao and coffee in a warm and casual environment. The staff were very friendly and patient with our limited Spanish. If you haven't tried Mexican cacao yet, this is a great place to start that offers many different preparations with varying bitterness and sweetness levels, as well as added spices.

I liked the authentic hot chocolate! We got the 50% semi amargo hot chocolate with cardamom and the 50% semi amargo fermented. I also bought some pastille hot chocolates to go i could make at home.

La Rifa is a place I really wanted to like more than I did. It's got a lot going for them. There's great outdoor seating and a lot of variety in their selection. You can get the drinks hot or cold, with milk or water, and in many different levels of chocolate ranging from milk chocolate to dark to 100% dark. They also sell chocolate bars. Unfortunately their chocolate isn't that good. The drinks fall flat, and if you get one with honey you won't be able to taste it. The chocolate always has a tendency to sink to the bottom so you won't taste it, either. It's a cute place to visit but don't prioritize it like I did.

Excellent chocolate drinks and unique chocolate tamales in a cool laidback vibe. There were several tables and benches right outside for us to enjoy our drinks from. A friend of mine said their chocolate is ethically sourced from bean to bar, so love that. That also makes this place on the pricier side by Mexican standards, which is something to keep in mind. As for what to order, I'd recommend the cold semi-amargo (aka semi bitter) chocolate w/ cardamom and milk, the tamal w/ nata, and the artisanal chocolate beer. Also, try one of the fermented chocolate drinks if you can; it has a unique taste that reminds me of Korean fermented soybeans similar to miso that are used for stews and such. And of course, if you're looking to buy some souvenirs, I don't think you can go wrong with chocolate lol.

Lovely chocolate shop with drinks that'll leave you feeling mighty fine. We learned about La Rifa from fellow Americans who are chocolatiers. They raved about how fantastic La Rifa is, and explained that they were able to take a chocolate making class here. We visited on a Saturday morning, our last stop before the airport, sadly. Therefore, we came here for some drinks and a treat. Located in the Roma neighborhood, the shop was small, but they had plenty of outdoor seating. The menu featured several chocolate and coffee drinks, as well as a display case of chocolate pastries and merchandise. My partner and I each ordered a hot chocolate. His drink was made with 100% cacao beans and the employee warned him that it was very strong, which only heightened our intrigue. I ordered the hot chocolate with milk, which they gave us as a free sample of, and it was so delicious I couldn't resist. We also shared a 100% cacao cookie. Yum, yum, YUM! The drinks were wonderfully delicious, as well as the soft-baked chocolate cookie. I liked that the drinks and treat were abundant in cacao flavor, which is what we were seeking here. The chocolate is definitely of quality, and my only regret is not buying more treats and chocolate from here to have taken home. La Rifa is a chocolate shop to not miss. It was a great last, sweet stop during our Mexico City vacation.

LOCATION: this location is smaller than the other I saw on Yelp. Some tables outside, no indoor seating. ORDERED: semi amargo with almond milk (made in house). it was super yummy that I bought a pack to make at home. SERVICE: Service was exceptional! I didn't catch his name, but he was super helpful in explaining the different cacao. GIFTS: purchase the cacao to bring home!! they have cacao powder and cacao bars! Food: 5/5 stars Service: 5/5 stars Venue: 4/5

Some of the best chocolate you can get in CDMX... Yeah, these are bold words. But then again, this is excellent chocolate! Mind you, you can get all sorts of chocolate here, but the go-to stuff here is the "classic"-style version (kinda grainy, little to no sugar - basically what you use to make hot chocolate, Mexican style). Come here, have some of the hot chocolate, try not to overload on the chocolate you buy to bring back and try to replicate on your own. (Note - it turns out that the version you make at home with this chocolate is *actually* good )

Our Eat Mexico guide told us that La Rifa was one of the best chocolatiers in the city. We trekked over here to find chocolate to give to our friends and family, especially those who helped us go on the trip by taking care of our kids. We were thrilled to get to sample a bite of each type of chocolate we wanted to buy. We absolutely loved every single one we tried and bought a lot to bring home. Even though we bought a lot, it was not enough because we didn't get any for us! I highly recommend stopping in and stocking up!

Sugar cookie made with piloncillo. 50% dark choc w/cardamom, made with water, served hot. Warm, balanced sweetness, rich but not heavy.
