Coffee Chocolate
Razaa A.

This is a neat place to try when in Mexico City. A friend of mine recommended this. There are a lot of options, but unfortunately they don't give samples. I asked them which items were most popular and picked a couple based off of that. The coffee chocolate is quite strong but tasty. The chocolate with nuts was delicious and rich. They do sale by weight, so it's not really possible to get 1 or 2 of each, you have to get a minimum weight of each. Overall, great experience and high quality chocolate. Check it out.

Dulcería de Celaya; opened 1874

In business since 1874, this shop has had enough time to perfect their really, incredibly sweet and delicious candies. I lose any semblance of willpower when I see the display of coconut confections. Even if you don't buy anything -- and I don't know how it's humanly possible -- step through the door and walk into 1874.

I stopped by to pick up some typical Mexican candy for my mother. Staff was really helpful and gave me a couple free samples.

Good chocolate and very good leche quemada. But, very expensive. Ok for a little treat though.

Their turron is different than the Spanish style - they do not use whole almonds and the nougat surrounding the almonds is thinner so it gives a different experience because of texture.

Saw this Chocolate store while we were eating dinner and thought we could maybe find some gifts for…read morefriends/family. We were impressed by the quality and artisanship of the truffles. They were beautifully made. No one in our group actually tried the chocolates so I cannot comment on if they tasted as good as they looked. We all bought 3 types of chocolate drinks. 1 that was dark and hot, 1 that was cold and sweeter, and 1 that was cold and kinda spicy. The drinks came in little cups that you poured into gourds, a very authentic experience. When I imagine hot chocolate I think of a more cream rich European style chocolate and this was different than expected. It was much more watery with nib chocolate nip remnants throughout for what we ascertained to be a Mexican style chocolate drink. We all enjoyed the dark and sweet chocolate drinks but the cold spicy drink smelled like red bean and didn't have the most pleasant flavor or texture. I would come again for the authentic experience and the two drinks that we really enjoyed.

What an awesome chocolate shop by chocolate-genius José Ramón Castillo. We had a chance to meet…read morethe master and he gave us a beginners guide to eating truffles and drinking chocolate. The rice milk chocolate, light and toasty, was a revelation. The biggest surprise was when I got home and began eating the truffles, maybe it was that I was back in my element and more centered, but I was amazed how good these chocolates are, the perfect craftsmanship, and the pop of flavors. I wish I bought more boxes!
