It surrounds a small lake and was a great place to walk around and unwind after a very long day. In addition to the city hall, it is also next to the library and police department. We as a community need parks to gather in and come together as a community. While I was at this park, I noticed a photographing a young girl as her proud family stood nearby beaming. She held balloons, so they were commemorating a significant moment in her life and wanted to memorialize it with a professionally done photo shoot and chose this park as the setting. I enjoyed my time at this small but wonderful park. If you find yourself in the area, I definitely recommend that you check it out.

The road stops at a stop sign and you make a left and you are on Metal Museum Drive. To your immediate Left is the Chickasaw Heritage Park sign and statue of the Indian Lady. To your right is the abandoned Memphis Marine Military Hospital...scary looking!!! The park is a good size park with bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River with historical markers talking about Desoto. I never did see a sign that mentioned DeSoto Park so I am wondering if this is the same location. There are Indian burial mounds and plenty of green grass to walk, stroll or jog or just play ball or have a picnic and family fun. some history about the park I found on the internet: Legacies - Chickasaw Heritage Park 147 Metal Museum Drive, Memphis TN 38106 Located in Memphis' French Fort Community, the 17-acre, historically significant park features Native American earth mounds, historic markers, walking paths and scenic views of the Mississippi River. The sculpture references the history of Chickasaw Heritage Park, which includes the Chucalissa tradition, explorer Hernando DeSoto, Spanish settlers, Fort Pickering, and a settlement of former slaves. The park offers a quiet, relaxing refuge, whose walking paths crisscross the park, also providing access to the neighboring Metal Museum. We walked next store was the park formerly known as DeSoto Park. It had a swing set and a walk in concrete swimming pool. We use play on the Indian burial mound by sliding down with cut out cardboards. At the time, we were kids and we didn't know that there were Indian buried here. We are very sorry. They had several canyons. There is a Lookout Post mound with a small wooden door where you can see the Mississippi River. The park is kept up very nice and clean. The Marine Veteran Hospital was vacant for years. It is now revocation into nice apartments. I highly recommend the visit with the Metal Museum.

Beale Street Landing was in the planning stages for many years. The RDC aka Riverfront Development Corporation was formed in 2000 to create opportunities for the public to enjoy the Mississippi River up close & personal. Split-second glimpses of the river while driving over the Bridge or along Riverside Drive where there is no place to pull over, & almost no place to park, just wasn't cutting it. Island Play is an interactive play area with water features for kids 10 & under. There is great potential for this space, but the lighting was so harsh, it drowned out the beauty of the Mississippi River and the mosquitoes sent us back inside. The menu prices are very reasonable, but be prepared to pay for parking (you can get a small discount by validating your parking ticket inside the restaurant). Keeping my fingers crossed on this one! I will definitely try BSL again because Robbie was so professional. Perhaps, I will add more stars, if BSL irons out the wrinkles.

We stayed in spot 29, although 31 was the best spot said the park staff, but it wasn't empty. The water pressure is just a stream, not a wave of rushing water. We chose to not shower in our RV due to the lack of pressure and do it at next campground. Can't say what the bath house conditions were, didn't use them; however, people were using them. Lots for the most part are tree covered. Starlink satellite couldn't get a signal but our AT&T cell phones did. If we ever needed a quick spot this would be the one.

The grounds are kept up to a certain point and then not, and there is poison ivy everywhere, and the camp host... what camp host. There is someone there with a tarp over their rv, water dripping out the backside of it, and when you do see them they do not acknowledge you at all. Why are they even there? It was just a disappointment really. And you know it was if I didn't take pics of our stay. What a shame really to see it being let go. The rangers can only do so much and they were very friendly and helpful.

Or there is Free Parking @ Tom Lee Park, then walk South up the Bluff incline. A plaque commemorates "the heros and heroines . . . who gave their lives serving the victims of Yellow Fever." The horrible Epidemic hit Memphis in 1878 & "devastated the city, leaving few survivors." The number of Visitors discovering Martyrs Park has exploded since the opening of Big River Crossing to the South 1 year ago. BRC drew 250,000 Pedestrians & Bicyclists in its 1st year. I recommend arriving @ least 1 hour before Sunset. The Walk in both directions is scenic & pleasant.
