Sohler Law - Attorney Richard "RJ" Sohler

I was in need of someone to update and revise my estate plan but I was tired of the high prices…read morecharged by the firms downtown. I decided what I needed was an attorney with a solo practice who could deliver the same quality advice and service but at prices that were fair. I don't need a cup of organic herbal tea or bottled spring water at my appointments. Nor do I need spa music and plush seating with a sweeping view of the river. Who do you think pays for all those fancy amenities at the firms downtown? You do. Enter Richard Sohler. Wow, I can't say enough great things about him and his practice. A top ten percent graduate of the prestigious Lewis and Clark Law School, Richard is hard-working (he grew up on an Oregon filbert farm), humble, sincere, straight talking, easy-going, thorough, and has a meticulous attention to detail. He delivers fast and efficient service and always has his eye out on how to keep his charges down so he can save the client money. In addition to updating my estate plan, I hired him to prepare my tax return for 2014, which was more than just a tiny bit complicated. In preparing my taxes, first Richard reviewed my previous year's returns and found some areas where my old CPA had dropped the ball, so to speak. The last thing I want (or anyone else I'm sure) is a tax audit. Richard recommended that I file an amended return for 2013. I agreed, so he set to work and waded through all the mess and got the amended return ready too, all while in the middle of his dear wife delivering their first baby! Just weeks after I hired Richard, I was already proud to recommend him to friends who needed advice regarding the business/book-keeping aspects of their homeowner's association, and also to friends who needed to update their estate plan like I did. If you want the best advice there is for taxes, business law, or estate planning, Richard is your man.

RJ Sohler has been preparing my taxes for over 10 years. I highly recommend Sohler Law…read more RJ always answers all my tax questions and has helped me get through some difficult years with Capital Gains taxes after my Husband passed away. Thank you RJ for all your help.

I cannot say enough great things about this firm. Our home was literally falling apart. We had…read moretried and tried to contact our builder and it was evident our home was beyond another patch job. Our concern was that when it was time to sell, it would never make it past inspection. We interviewed a couple of law firms that specialize in construction defect and chose Aldrich Eike, PC. This firm is a small local "Boutique" firm that walked us through every single scenario. They were professional, timely, and available to answer all of our questions (we had a ton.) They knew exactly how long the process would take and were pretty spot on. The actual construction was of course a nightmare; they had to rip off the whole front of the house, re-install new windows, siding, and rip up all the concrete, etc. What was found underneath was really, really bad, or I should say, what was no longer there. Horrible. Of course, all of this had to be done before the next rain fall and in between life, kids and my husbands travel schedule. Needless, to say Kevin was professional, available and I have given his name without hesitation to friends and family. Seriously, one of the best attorney situations we have had.

Kevin seemed helpful and responsive at first, and we were genuinely thankful to have found him. But…read morein the middle of active litigation needs, he told us he no longer litigates. The right thing to do would be to finish out those cases he already committed to, but he will not. He pushed us to another attorney at his firm, Todd Peck, and assured us Todd would finish our legal matter with a contractor dispute. Todd agreed to this at the time. Now, both of them are stepping back, which means we have to start over: find new counsel, pay a new 15k retainer, and redo work that should have already been handled. Throughout the representation, it often felt like corners were being cut, communications weren't fully read, wrong information was shared, and at one point during an active legal crisis, we were told Kevin was unavailable because he was on vacation. In my opinion, this reflects poorly on how much client outcomes were actually prioritized here. Kevin has since transitioned to mediation work, but based on our experience, I would be cautious about trusting him in that role given how this was handled. When we asked for a clear explanation of why Todd could no longer help, we were given an explanation that did not match our own email records. Still, neither attorney has taken accountability for that discrepancy or for not following through on what they had assured us. When you're in a stressful legal situation and looking for strong, professional representation, that is not what we feel we received, and we wanted to share this to help others avoid the same experience.
