    Fish sandwich
    Warren R.

When I walked into this place, I felt unwelcome. The cook had a look of discuss or something on his face, like he didn't want us there, it was very uncomfortable. Me and my buddy sat at the bar and there was no service at all. I asked for a menue and they told me it was over by the cash register so I got up and got my own menu which I thought was weird. The menu itself was very limited probably because it was before lunch but not a whole lot to choose from. There was some appetizers on the top of the menu everything I wanted from that section I was told they didn't have that. So I ordered a fish sandwich but I was curious about what kind of fish it was and the girl at the cash register didn't even know nor did she ask the cook to find out what kind of fish it was. It was all so strange. I ordered the fish sandwich anyways and some chicken noodle soup. As food the fish sandwich it was pretty good, I enjoyed it but as for the chicken noodle soup, that tasted like it came straight out of a can you buy at the supermarket. My buddy hade the Philly cheese steak sandwich and that was pretty good as well. Everything there comes in packaging as if it was all take out which was odd to me as well because I didn't say " to go please ". All in all I would say I you're in the area give this place a try but don't go out of your way to go there.

Chicken Kabob over rice with a salad and white sauce

Sorry there isn't too much to see from the salad. It was great food. I was looking g for this place for over a year when a co-worker told me about it. It's reasonably priced and the food is amazing today I ordered the chicken Kabob over rice and a salad (which was fresh) it was a great light environment. The chicken had a little spice to it which was a pleasant surprise. The salad was composed of lettuce, tomato, cucumber and feta. I love that elements were added to the salad and not just lettuce.

Excellent and affordable cafe styled restaurant. Healthy options for breakfast and lunch mixed with a adequate coffee menu. A must try if you're driving to/from jersey city and Newark.

My partner enjoyed his steak sandwich as well which had cheese whiz. Super local spot. Has maybe three tables. Employees were nice. Place is across from a church so easy to get food after service! Long before the likes of Subs Galore (a few blocks away) tried to rock the boat, Stash's was the only game in town (for a whole lotta years). I grew up two blocks away and I'm positive I put the original owner's kids through college with all the money I dropped here. After hearing new owners decided to keep the lights on I had to make an effort to get over here to show my support. Walking into the new Stash's... the place received a 'glow-up' (I'm entirely too old to be trying to use hip slang!) and loved that they decided to keep the framed Scott Baio picture (one of these days I'll share the 'deets' on that!). Surprised to see a few new menu additions (coffee?! Taylor ham?! Manhattan Special Espresso Soda?!) as well as being open more days and longer hours. For the sake of history I had to try their 'Belly Buster' and the kid handed me the sub in a box. ("Huh?! This is a weird gimmick.") But when I got home to open the box I understood 'why' - no wax paper and standard paper bag would've been able to hold this beast together. Just a ridiculous amount of (Thumann's) cold cuts and toppings that the (decent) bread tried in vain to keep together. "Bang for your buck" - you won't find a better deal. But for me it was TOO much and there's definitely an 'art' and a 'balance' to the ratio of meat to toppings to bread and Stash's is a bit TOO generous for my liking. One odd tidbit that brought me back to my youth and the old Stash's... that "stinky sub smell" that you just can't get off of your hands (and body) - no matter how many times you wash your hands, brush your teeth, take a shower, you name it. (Sadly it's Pavlovian for me to want/need a Clinton's iced tea when devouring a Stash's sub but that's no longer an option.) I hope they have another fifty years of prosperity down there in West Hudson!

Onward and upwards... it's now (almost) 2024 and while the the shelves are a bit more sparse than I recall and they got rid of their lottery machine (which seemed to bring in a lot of old-timers) - what I'm here for is their sandwiches. Specifically their #1 Italian. And I'm happy to report: they're still the best around. (And it tasted even better after a recent not-so-good visit to a Jersey Mike's in my hometown.) Besides their incredible subs you'll find the usuals (chips, soda, ice cream) and a few random items (aspirin, Chapstick). Cool crew behind the counter. Good pricing for such a quality product. Trying to find parking is still a nightmare. 'Enjoy every sandwich.' -- Warren Zevon (No truer words were ever spoken.)

We ordered a few breakfast sandwiches in a Sunday morning. Out of the gate we are told they are out of round rolls. Alright, I can understand that. I'm assuming they don't make the round rolls there, so one you're sold out.... you're sold out. My wife opted for her sandwich on an everything bagel. They're out of everything bagels. Really??? I get there and as I'm waiting, their entire case is basically empty of all bagels with the exception of plain bagels. Now I'm confused. How is a bagel place out of everything with the exception of plain bagels. Alright, it is what it is. I pay for my sandwiches and I'm on my way. I should also mention that the girl at the counter was very confused which is alarming considering I was the only one in there. She asked if I was one name, when I said no, she looked perplexed. I'm thinking, how many orders could you have? Especially considering I ordered five sandwiches?? We get home and keep in mind that I only live 4 minutes from the establishment. All sandwiches are cold. Not only cold but it was basically a bagel with a hint of taylor ham and egg. I will admit that I do not like my sandwiches on bagels because most of the time I find them too doughy. Still doesn't excuse the fact that it was cold but that could be the reason why I felt it was mostly bread. Needless to say that my quest for a good breakfast sandwich in my immediate area continues.

I had the gluten-free pastrami wrap with fries for $23.95 and my husband had the #5 pastrami and corned beef with coleslaw and Russian dressing for $25.95. he also got the drip coffee with free refills for $3.25. Service was amazing. Owner's came out and chatted with us and preemptively made sure that I was aware that my food was safe for me to consume. Our waitress was incredibly personable and sweet. There were free pickles on the table. I'm not even a pickle person but I had three because again, I've been dying for vegetables after being in Europe. Great portions, safe celiac options, personable service, refillable drinks and no charge to use the toilets (although I didn't need to use them during this visit) This is what makes American restaurants great and Hobby's ticks all of those boxes.
