My friend and I stayed in the Meadowlark Room, featuring two full beds and a shower/tub. The room was immaculately clean, quiet, and adorably antiquated. Connie and Gary could not have not been kinder or more hospitable hosts. Breakfast was lovely, and hot and cold beverages were available in the common area along with Connie's delicious homemade treats -- she even insisted on packaging up brownies for us to take on the road when we departed! When visiting, do ask Connie and Gary for instructions on how to take a self-guided driving tour of nearby Principia College, which features many amazing buildings by architect Bernard Maybeck and stunning views from the bluffs of the Mississippi River. I'll be looking for an excuse to return to Elsah for another stay at Green Tree Inn... Highly recommended!

The Inn has the same warm and homey feel to it as it was with Connie and Gary. They have converted the "antique" room to a game room and filled it with board games ( or bring your own.) The breakfasts were fantastic (especially Megan's breakfast pizza with a puff pastry crust.) The afternoon treats are amazing (cinnamon pecan coffee cake and fresh raspberry cheesecake tarts..yumm!) The common area with the fireplace and the comfy couch and chairs is perfect after a day of hiking a Pere Maquette or exploring Grafton. The rooms are cozy and very clean. It is such a relaxing getaway ! I look forward to many more trips to the Green Tree Inn !

Everyone loved it! We got lucky, since I was the best man we got put in the Mary Lincoln suite, which was the nicest of the guest rooms. It was not as big as the Washington room which the bride and groom got, but both were spacious with large comfy beds, seating, balcony access overlooking the gorgeous back yard, fireplaces, and best of all the large jacuzzi tubs in each room, big enough for two. Everything was set up perfectly, plenty of towels, bubble bath for the tub, cookies left on each bed. The small guest rooms were all nice as well, with different themes, and really only lacked the space and jacuzzis of the larger suites. It was so relaxing and well-kept. On top of that, they provided us with delicious breakfast both days in the Great Room. We all felt right at home, and no one wanted to leave at the end. I don't think I can express how charming this lodge is, it was a beautiful setting for the wedding, and a great place to get away. On top of that, the staff were all extremely friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. I was blown away by the level of service we received. Two people really stood out during our stay: Mary helped us on our first night and during the events, she was very friendly and funny; Melina (Maleena?) was awesome too, she served us breakfast both days and was the one to stay overnight with us. They were both amazingly welcoming, it really is impossible to convey just how much they made our trip as wonderful as it was. I can't recommend this place enough, it was a wonderful weekend, one of the best we've had in a long time. If you're thinking of doing an event, definitely come here. We can't wait to go back!

A Wonderful Stay at Benton Park Inn…read more My wife and I recently spent a night at Benton Park Inn and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The inn is located directly across from a beautiful park, making for a charming and relaxing setting. It was easy to find and conveniently located near the freeway, yet far enough away to be peaceful and quiet. We stayed in the Virginia Minor Room, which was spacious, exceptionally clean, and very quiet. It provided a comfortable retreat and made for a great night's sleep. One of the highlights of our stay was the breakfast. It was absolutely terrific and clearly prepared with care. We also enjoyed getting to know Dan, the proprietor, whose warm hospitality made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. And of course, meeting Rosie, the inn's friendly dog, was an added bonus. If you're looking for a comfortable, well-maintained bed and breakfast with a great location, excellent food, and genuinely welcoming hosts, I highly recommend Benton Park Inn. The rooms are well-appointed with decor to match the historic location. Many household amenities are included as well as a washer and dryer. The larger bedroom includes a relaxing air tub. Service: The owner, Mike Kelly, answered my request to make a reservation immediately. He made the booking process very easy. Check in and check out were all communicated through text messaging with keyless access so I could come and go as convenient. Housekeeping: The area was well-maintained and tidy with an open floor plan that made it very comforting. Atmosphere: This was my first trip to Alton and I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere on the river. The penthouse was very comfortable and made a great home away from home. The building is located near the casino and the square and many downtown attractions are within walking distance. Conclusion: I cannot give a higher recommendation for the Alton Cracker Factory if you are staying in Alton, Illinois. The historic location offers a great ambiance and the view of the river and the surrounding community is exceptional. The management really made my reservation and the entire stay very pleasant.

Huge living area with comfy couches and large dining table. 2 bed rooms can sleep 4. The huge balcony with tables and chairs provides an amazing view of the Clark bridge and Mississippi River. This place is within walking distance of many great Alton eateries and shops. Also only a 16 minute drive to Grafton or Edwardsville for for entertainment. One drawback is the parking. No dedicated lot so it's only street parking. There are dedicated spaces out front and side parking is available too. My husband started getting texts prior to 8 am needing to know what we wanted for breakfast because all the other guests were up and out. I don't like leaving underwhelming reviews but we were truly underwhelmed by the breakfast part of the B&B classification. The building truly is remarkable. The owners were kind and accommodating to find safe storage for a large painting I had brought for an appraisal event being held nearby. If you're a dog person, this may be a great place for you to stay.

The kitchen was great and had everything that you need. We planned on making dinner and had no issues with anything. All of the cookware and dinnerware was provided. That was nice. The wooden spiral staircase was so cool because it was the original wood. She warned us to be careful of the narrow steps and that was great advice. The bedroom was beautiful as well with a full bathroom and back deck. Now, the bed was absolutely amazing! Had one of the best sleeps ever! There was also a little reading nook in the corner with some St. Louis reading material that I took advantage of. Very nice touch! Unfortunately there were some things that we weren't happy with. This night was very special to my husband and I and we did our research when it came to booking a room for the night. After finally making a decision we decided on Dwell because of what we read online in Jenn's description of her place, the amenities that were offered and the awesome reviews. We had two very important things that we were looking for. One, we had to have a fireplace and two, we wanted a prepared breakfast. Both of these things were mentioned on her website and in the amenities list on Airbnb. The fireplace did not work and it was super disappointing. I feel that if you don't have a working fireplace, you need to remove it from the list of available options or at least reach out to your guests to let them know. The breakfast was also a major disappointment. We read such wonderful reviews on how great the prepared breakfast was and what we got was yogurt and bagels. Nice, but not what we were expecting. Again, this was something that was mentioned on the website. I read through every single review on Airbnb so we couldn't wait to take a shower with that amazing rainfall shower head. Well, if you don't mind showering in front of a window at night with no window covering then you're good to go. Yes, people lived across the alley so it wasn't like no one could see you. We on the other hand need a bit more privacy. Just to make sure, I stood in front of the window while my husband went outside and he without a doubt could see me. Very, very disappointing. Needless to say, our experience was not five stars like everyone else's and we wanted it to be so badly. Especially when paying the money that we did.
