Drury House Antiques
Debbie C.

My husband and I visited the lovely town of Weston, VT, today. We had a wonderful visit with the exception of the Drury House Antiques. We had our Standard Poodle with us, so we took turns going into each of the places we wanted to visit. One of us sat outside while the other went in to visit and then we switched so the other could go in. We saw the antiques building and it looked beautiful and inviting. We were walking up the flower lined path to the building when I saw a woman in the side yard tending her garden. She looked at me, scowled and yelled at me "That dog had better not pee on my antiques again!" I was shocked!! I couldn't even respond at first. We have NEVER been to this venue before today. I had no intention of taking my dog inside. I quickly realized that she had to be one of the owners, and the second thought I had was, if this is the way that she greets customers, there is a big problem here. I told her that I had never been to her business before so my dog could not have ever peed on her antiques. He is a certified therapy dog and knows how to behave in public and private. I told her that we were leaving and that she lost a sale as we most certainly would have found something to buy. My husband then went to the Historical Society across the street. While there he mentioned our encounter with the owner of Drury House Antiques. Their immediate reply was "They're not very friendly, are they?" This says a whole lot about your business when the locals know that you are not friendly to the public and hurt the reputation of the town. No stars; nothing good to say.

I bought a clock like one my mother had. It is beautiful, mint condition. Plus, it works! Fairly priced and smooth transaction.

GF and I love our adventures. After leaving a wedding in Rutland, we drove some scenic roads back…read moreinto MA. Part of the way home, we spotted the Twitchell House on the left side of route 30 as we were motoring South. The Twitchell House is seriously an entire house (and barn and tent and yard) full of antiques. We probably spent two hours poking through all the rooms, digging up all sorts of neat little trinkets. GF got a soldering iron shaped like a pistol and some funky tins. I got a mid-century cake tin for a baker friend, an old glass ink well, a set of 1920s fake pearls, a 1940s black fox muff that I am so excited to rock the hell out of this winter...I think that's all I got...but it definitely wasn't all I wanted to get. The owners are also pretty awesome, and super chatty. They love their collection and they've carefully labeled everything in the building. If you're ever in Southern Vermont looking for an adventure, this is definitely a worthwhile stop.

I have to wholeheartedly agree with the other reviewer...this place is amazing. Southern VT has a…read morelot of antiquing, but this place is the most bohemian. Prices were flexible and low, there wasn't a single item I looked at that I wasn't willing to pay full sticker price. We are trying to keep our place minimal and we have all of the furniture we need, but we did get these two amazing rugs. She did say that she usually doesn't do rugs, but that she got these on a gut feeling. They are in tough shape, and in need of a good cleaning, but they were a CRAZY good deal and exactly what I was searching for. If I were opening a restaurant or a boutique, or just looking to furnish my place, I would schlep up here as my first stop.

(Wish I'd known that part, and won't make that mistake if I come back to the area at such a time!). Staff was super friendly when we walked in, but one lady's smile turned upside down when she saw how many "smalls" I was buying. Allowing yourself at least an hour here seems reasonable. Prices were on quite a spectrum, from "wow, what a deal!" To "Wow, they really do not want to sell that." Found tons of treasures here though, which is the most important part. There are two entrances, and hence, two places to check out. I definitely had fun comparing the typical finds here vs. in other states. Absolutely worth a visit!

Happened to cut my ski trip short and on the way home I popped in to see what was inside. I didn't find anything on the entrance to the right, but in the other building I walked out with more than a handful. Found a beautiful carpeted area rug, some minerals/gems for my collection, couple display stands for them, and a couple odd ball things for the home. I talked myself out of buying some sports cards and coins so could have been worse. Overall I was pleased with my visit and will one day stop in again.

STAY AWAY! I have been living in Chester for 10 days, and…read morethe treatment I received by owner Skip, his wife and sister is the definition of rude, mean and unprofessional. If i can give them one star I would. I bought 3 pieces from them, $500 cash, no tax. (It helps him avoid scrutiny from the IRS.) Skip arranged delivery (5 blocks away) on a Monday at 10 a.m. He never shows up. The old maid sister told me he was "picking up stuff" and would be gone for two days. On Wednesday, he called me and did everything but apologize. I asked to cancel the order. He snapped: "NO REFUNDS! Look at the bottom of your receipt." I had no idea because I never got one. His wife called me a few days later. I asked to speak with Skip. She said, "I am on speaker phone. he is listening. he will not talk with you." She proceeded to tell me they would "dump" the items in the driveway! And they did. In the snow. I called the police while they were here and Missy said, "Good! Tell them I said hello." And off they drove. I have filed a police report with them. The city hall is having someone kindly bring it up the stairs. (I am disabled and have incredibly weak knees.) I have been visiting and buying from junk stores for decades. This is, without a doubt, my worst experience. They are fetid feces. Be careful not to step in it!
