The store was actually pretty impressive inside. They no longer sell deli items but are focused on wine, alcohol and quick takeaway drinks and snacks. Since we were looking for a late night bite close to the hotel it wasn't what we had in mind when we stopped in, but if you are looking for a liquor store it could do the job. The staff members did greet us when we entered and quickly explained that they no longer had the deli portion of the business. We looked around for a bit, and I couldn't tell you for sure how prices compare to other places in the area since we were only visiting, but it seems like a decent spot. I'm always walking through this neighborhood around lunch time and yesterday this sign caught my eye, "1/2 Sandwich with soup or salad special, $4.99". I'm always looking for a good cheap lunch, so I peeked in and mentally bookmarked it for the next day. So today, my coworker and I headed down to Drumm Liquor and Deli. I ordered a 1/2 Peppered Turkey with Cheddar, everything on it, on a Dutch crunch roll and a side green salad. It was pretty big for a 1/2 of a sandwich and the salad was more than just a side salad. Unfortunately there are no pictures of my lunch since I was half way through it before I realized it. They serve Boar's Head Meat and Cheeses, have really fresh salads and sides, chocolates and have one of the largest Liquor selections I've seen downtown. The falafel special at Drumm Liquor and Deli is a great deal for lunch under $5 in the Fidi. I wanted a change from the usual so I decided to get it while my colleague got a sandwich down the street. It's a generous serving of falafel, hummus, and tahini accompanied by some lettuce ad tomato. Stayed at the Hyatt and decided to try this place because my friend recommended their sandwiches. It was a miss for me and a hit for my bf. I didn't like the chewy roll (I swore I said wheat bread though o.O) that they had but I must say, the pickled vegetables and what not on the sandwich made it a very tasty one. I must admit, the meat was very thinly sliced but I think we got a good amount of it. It's not as bad as Vietnamese sandwiches XD We also got the grilled burrito. It didn't look too good because it was already grilled and just sitting in the case AND it was late in the night so I was thinking about how long that thing had been sitting there but my bf doesn't care about these things...and I'm glad he doesn't. That thing was one tasty ... burrito BUT only if you eat it with hot sauce. That made all the difference, I swear! I was in SF for a quick business trip. Running late on my lunch break, i was looking for a cheap and quick digg... WOW. I saw this wine store with what looked like a deli counter. the service was quick and friendly. You see this is the reason im sad that I live in Long Beach. One cannot find these kinds of gems in the LBC. Here my pallet is limited to burgers, tacos and pizza if on a budget. . . But in the bay area i always find these yummy dives that are easy on the wallet. I ordered the Lavosh with Jerusalem Chicken. Its basically a wrap sandwich on lavosh bread. Heated to perfection on a iron skillet clamp. Wow the marinade on the chicken was insane on the taste buds not to mention the spicy tzaziki sauce, and the finely minced cucumber yougurt. Ive never had anything this amazing on the go. It was a mere 6 bucks and big enough to feed two people. ...Im talkin this thing was the size of a baby! The only thing that made me sad was that I could not finish it. i wish they had offered a smaller size. I decided to give Drumm Liquor & Deli another try and was so glad I did! The deli counter has been redone and the place is spotless. I chose a ham and swiss sandwich on rye. The person behind the counter actually sliced the ham to order, which you don't see too often. And they had marble rye, which I love! My sandwich was enormous and enough for two people. Major score for $5.99. I'll be back. One note: their health score is 98 out of 100, so much higher than their sister restaurant, Oasis Grill, right down the block. read more

If I'm really feeling edgy, something that seems to happen quite frequently these days with my psychotic overbearing boss, I'll go pick up a Foster's to drink on the ferry on my way home to Vallejo. While we do have a full bar aboard the Baylink Ferry, it's on the pricier side and sometimes I just want to get a nice buzz and relax without breaking the bank. I struggle with lunch everyday. I'm like a lost fetus out in the Financial District. I am so indecisive, I spend most of my lunch time wandering, wondering, and whining. Someone told me about the hummus here and that they had a really good deli. Whatever, I see the place and walk in. Fuuuuck they have mac & cheese!! Potato salad!! Taboule!! And so many other things that I'm leaving out. The sandwich menu was overwhelming...an indecisive pup like myself would have been satisfied with 3 sandwich options. Most sandwiches are $6-8...I was skeptical cause I can make the shit myself for under $2 -_- I randomly selected the chicken salad sandwich. The woman who made it was nice and paid attention to detail. I was expecting a measly little sandwich but I was wrong this thing was massive! The most enormous sandwich I've seen. I was only able to eat half....flavors were good, freshness was there the only regret I have is that I added provolone. It overpowered the chicken salad, but that's my fault for not going with Swiss....again, I had too many options. This little place is great for a quick lunch when you're on the go. Convenient if you work in the financial district or Embarcadero area. It is directly across the street from Embarcadero Center 4. If the weather is nice, you can walk a block or two and eat your lunch over by the Ferry Building. Dumm Deli offers a reasonably priced lunch sandwich special ($5.50 for sandwich of choice, chips, and soda). I once ordered a roast beef on sourdough for dinner and they still gave me the lunch special price. :) There is nothing extraordinary about the sandwiches, but the portions are generous enough to eat half and save half for another meal. Drumm Deli also offers a variety of deli salads, as well as piroshkis! I love these guys! I work nearby and am pretty friendly with the guys now. They have a decent selection of alcohols; being in the financial district they pretty much have to... the robber barons don't get loaded off Cisco, you know? They sell the big bottles of Sam Adams!! These bottles are tough to find in SF; I'm a Bostonian and you can get them pretty much anywhere out there, but here, it's tough. Their beer selection is pretty good: they sell the obligatory Bud and some swilling malts like Mickey's, but they also have some better quality brews; Guinness, Sierra Nevada, et al. I even saw Boddington's there once! They have some GREAT European chocolates and other candies; Ritter and Kinder chocolates (not just the awesome Kinder Eggs with toys in them, but also the no-holds-barred chocolate bars with a smiling Bavarian kid on the package that makes you want to shriek WUNDERBAR and listen to Heino), real UK-made Cadbury's, things like that. But to me, the centerpiece of Drumm St. Liquor is their falafel wrap/sandwich. I know: a falafel from a liquor store?? Surely, you are joking, or you're just dumb. NO, I am not joking, and as far as DUMB goes... I'll have you know, I'm just hungover. The falafel is excellent quality - best I've had in SF other than at Arabi in the Rincon Center, but Drumm St. is open really late, and Arabi closes at 4. They load the wrap up pretty good if you're nice and ask. I always ask for some rice in it, as well as both the cucumber-yogurt (it's not quite tzitziki but close) AND the tehina and hommus. Comes out GREAT, especially with the hot sauce! The selection of pastas are good too; I'm partial to the olive and feta. They also have dolmas (!!) for a mere seventy-five cents (!!!), and pierogies (!!!!) with a variety of fillings! I've only ever had the cheese one but it was damned good! My confession: I brown bag it on the bus. And Drumm Liquor and Deli is my enabler. Yes. I have read the signs on Muni and other buses telling me I can not partake in the eating of food or consuming of liquids. But they never take into account a stressful work day or a pre-party bus ride. Not to worry, the brown bag is like my Invisibility Cloak from Harry Potter, no one can see the Bud Tall Boy hidden underneath. Drumm Liquor has an excellent location, right across from the bus stop. We discovered it by accident. Hungry and ate at the Taco Bell Express next door. And after two Gorditas, a co-worker suggested drinks to celebrate that Friday. To find Drumm liquor, it is right across from the Hyatt downtown in the FiDi. Big sign and lots of bottles of booze are visible from a good two blocks away. Best selection and prices from any other places downtown. And there are not many. I was on lunch last week and I really really REALLY wanted some sort of Mediterranean style wrap. I headed over to Oasis (Corner of Sac & Drumm Sts.)- which is the place that most of my coworkers hit up for this type of food. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, the line was out the door and 1/2 way down the block. I didn't want to waste my lunch break waiting in line, so I decided to keep looking... I strolled a little further down Drumm St. and came across the Drumm St. Deli, and what do you know? They serve Mediterranean style wraps!! (Along with lots of other American & Mediterranean dishes) I was so stoked! I immediately ordered the Jerusalem Chicken Lavosh wrap and added Tzatziki sauce to it. Less than 10 minutes after I walked in the door I strolled out with a large wrap (for about $7 I think) and headed back to my desk to dig in. Oh man... this wrap was exactly what I was dreaming of!! Chunks of juicy, well-seasoned chicken with Tahini and Tzatziki sauces and the usual smattering of lettuce, cucumber, tomato and onion. Best part? I wasn't in a food coma afterward and the flavors were exactly what I was craving (you can get a spicy version too). Needless to say, I'll be back. Probably on a weekly basis. -- Interesting story: As I was devouring this goodness (ps: can be very drippy), a coworker informed me that rumor on the street is that they are owned by the same people that own Oasis (the place I tried to go to 1st). I have walked by this place hundreds of times without noticing that they have food! Today, I was walking at just the right angle and noticed the dolmas in the deli case which led me to believe that this place might have falafel (one of my favorite foods!) and lo and behold, when I walked in they most certainly did. I said just a little bit spicy, but what I got was mouth on fire flaming spice, so fellow spice wimps beware. I will definitely say not spicy next time. It was pretty good, not as good as Oasis or Locali but solid and a good lunch portion. I come here for lunch or after work for a quality deli sandwich. It's not too expensive, most of their sandwiches are $5.99. You can choose any bread, I normally go for the sourdough or multigrain. I would recommend their cranberry turkey or pastrami. The place also sells all sorts of tobacco products and liquors, actually LOTS of tobacco and liquor, almost as if the deli was just their side business. read more

I LOVE this place!! Probably my favorite Gyro in the city thus far for an awesome price. Large and spicy for about $7 or so. I also love their sandwiches- not a fan of the Pita Gold (or whatever it's called), but the Cranberry Turkey and the Reuben are AMAZING and only $6-$7. On another occasion, a fellow started to charge me $1.75 for a bag of chips, which instead of buying I put back on the shelf. I went down the block to the 7 Eleven and bought a larger bag for 99 cents. However, upon reading the other reviews for the deli I noticed that a lot of Yelps had good things to say so I'll consider giving it another shot. Every time I've walked into this place the staff has been somewhat inattentive and lackadaisical, but overall they are very nice people. I most recently ordered a gyro, which I did not enjoy by the way, but I guess I should try something else next time. This place is super convenient, though. Although they overcharged me by $2 ($7.99 instead of the advertized $5.99), the Reuben I just had there was really good. It's hard to find a good Reuben that uses the traditional ingredients (pastrami, sauerkraut, swiss, marbled rye, 1000 island), and I was pleased with my big, fresh, delicious sandwich. They used high quality Boar's Head brand meats and cheeses. And they did refund me the $2 without a problem. UPDATE: Just went back for the second time. Anywayz, the price was right for a deli sandwich so I went in and got one. Basically you pay $6.00 for a sandwich with barely any meat and a ton of lettuce overflowing as filler. Worst $6 sandwich I've ever had. That said, don't get their sandwiches. Their salads and soups may be better. I don't know. My first stop in was at 10:00pm on a weekday. After a long day of work and then a 3hr class, I had missed dinner. Crap. What can I find quick at this hour? The best sandwich I've had in a long time actually. I walk in and immediately notice the place is clean, really clean. All the ingredients were covered/ wrapped and looked good. The lettuce was not a shredded mess like most places. It was nice crisp Romane leaves. Really fresh. At 10:00 at night? Looked promising. Tasted better. First bite: *crunch* lettuce is crispy! Everything looked pretty good and the place smelled fantastic. Clean and friendly service especially for a little liquor store... they offer a great small selection of highend wines and aoooo few bottles if Champagne. We just wanted to make Shimosas (Shiho Mimosas - mimosa with a couple shots of vodka) so we grabbed two bottles of the cheapest sparkling wine which was Cook's for $9.99/bottle.
