So we thought we would celebrate by having some Chinese food and on looking at the menu there was quite a choice of worldly cuisines to pick from!! Gillies is a 140 seater bar/grill which is part of the Galgorm Hotel & Spa complex. It has its own separate driveway entrance and an internal entrance from the hotel. It is split over 3 levels and on busy days people can dine in the bar. We parked in the restaurant car park and walked through the well kept garden area and past Fratelli's restaurant to get to the grill. Our table was booked for 13.30 and when we arrived the main dining area was packed and there was a super atmosphere. The restaurant area is very well laid out with a definite theme of farm animals painted on the high ceilings and walls and a huge centre piece chimney/fire place. On arrival we were shown to our reserved table which had two kids menus and two adult menus already on the table. Main course cutlery was wrapped in a large napkin with a chocolate enclosed-great touch!! We ordered pork and leek sausages and skinny fries with beans and pasta carbonara for the kids whilst my wife and I had starters of prawn cocktail and Bang Bang chicken. Firstly we asked for kids meals to come with our starters which happened and we divided the kids meals so they could share. The sausages were delicious as was the pasta and our prawn cocktail and chicken was amazing, there was a drizzle of satay sauce on the chicken which enhanced the dish. For mains my wife ordered salt and chilli chicken and chips and I had the ribs which came with onion rings and creamy coleslaw with garlic potatoes and pepper sauce. My ribs were really "melt in your mouth" and the sides were a great accompaniment. My wife's chicken was exactly like Chinese chefs cook it with a nice soy sauce flavour. For dessert the girls had ice cream with marshmallow and chocolate drops-so between that ant the fruit juices was sugar overload!!!! I had a caramel latte and wife had hot chocolate orange. The food, environment and service was absolutely superb. We spent a while in the grounds walking it all off. We shall definitely be back to check out the hotel, spa and other restaurants in the future. Check my blog for all pictures.

The ground floor bar area was packed and busy! It was a good vibes. We sat and had dinner in a quiet setting upstairs. We enjoyed our food and drinks. My margarita was delicious. During the time I visited, it wasn't very packed so I was seated swiftly. The kind staff accommodated my request to get a corner table. The vibe can be describe is a classic. I really enjoyed all the dark stained wood furniture - gave it such an "old Irish saloon" vibe...maybe because it is haha. I did not have much time to spend in Belfast, so I tried to taste as many traditional dishes as possible with being just one person. With that being said, I ordered a few of their notable dishes - Crown Bar Irish Stew, Steak & Ale Pie, and to finish it off, the Sticky Toffee Pudding served with both the custard and ice cream (really thankful the server offered to give me two toppings, and they were both delicious). All the dishes were great, and are definitely hearty. The stew as well as the pie filling had a rich roux - nice, thick and flavorful. I will say, the pie pastry was not as flaky as I would have liked it; kind of too thick. Overall, it was a great taste of Ireland

This really is a 'secret' garden…read more My sister and I were seeking a venue for a little treat and she recommended we try here. Afternoon tea without the ridiculous price - perfect. At £24 for two this really is a steal. Sandwiches of your choice, scones (with the usual accompaniments) and some yummy traybakes. This is more like non pretentious, Northern Irish style afternoon tea. With the tray bakes including mini fifteens and malteaser squares. If you are looking for something cutesy, scrumptious and not breaking the bank then look no further! Will definitely be back. Don't forget to check out the gift shop for some trinkets and the perfect gifts for mums.

Tea rooms attached to a garden centre, tend not to have the most out there reputation. I'm glad to say my scepticism was blown out of the water. This place is definitely a little gem of Belfast. The actual tea rooms/restaurant are an elegantly appointed building with stunning views of the countryside. You feel like you are in the great hall of some stately Victorian home. Sumptuous décor and a varied and delicious sounding menu. As we were there during the week we availed of the two courses for £9.99 (I think that was the price so apologies if I got this wrong, my mum was paying) We both ordered the soup for starter, Butternut Squash, chilli and coconut. Very tasty and a huge portion, I couldn't finish mine because I wanted to leave room for the main. My mother ordered slow cooked beef brisket, Mash and roast root veg while I had the smoked haddock, creamy bacon and leek sauce and the same sides. I cannot fault the food, it was delicious. My only tipple would have been that a selection of different sides for the fish may have been a little better, Maybe some samphire and potato croquets or some such. We also caught a glimpse of their cram tea on another table which looked stunning (I think the Waitress said it was £20/25 per head) Overall an amazing place for lunch, but it doesn't end there. They also offer a dinner menu Thursday to Saturday and it is BYO so definitely cannot be doing wrong there. I highly recommend this place for lunch or for dinner! If you go for dinner though I think you have to book as this place is making its mark on the map and seems to be getting ever more popular!

Our lunch in Browns in Town was a feast that probably could have tied us over until the next day…read more The meal was so filling that I felt I would need a wheelbarrow to be led away. But the food we ordered was worth feeling so full because it was wicked good. Located on Strand Road in downtown Derry, outside the City Walls, Browns in Town has a modern interior with brown wood walls in the primary dining area and a little postmodern-styled lounge in the front entrance. The vibes are fairly relaxed where you don't feel you have to dress up outside of jeans and a shirt to enjoy a meal. The food per our experience is certainly that of comfort and quality. One aspect my wife and I loved about Browns in Town, and many of the restaurants we visited in Northern Ireland and the Republic, is that on the menu we know which dishes are celiac friendly or have a celiac option, and note all the allergens present -- e.g., gluten, shellfish, dairy, eggs, nuts, etc. My wife is celiac, so this allowed us to choose this restaurant since it offers many gluten-free options -- and not just salad. Both of us ordered the local seafood chowder (I had the gluten version, while she had the celiac option), which was creamy, buttery, and delicious, loaded with a variety of seafood caught in the area and served with homemade bread. The Mushroom & Black Garlic Risotto was out of this world, with the pine nuts and parmesan providing a nice balance with primary ingredients -- also luscious and rich. The chefs cooked the risotto to perfection. I probably was fine just ordering that, as the black garlic chips (fries to us Americans) were overkill, but I couldn't help myself being at a restaurant for the first time in a city I have never visited before. My wife had the beer-battered cod in the gluten-free option and incredibly tasty, especially when combined with the mushy peas and tartar sauce. We didn't even attempt to order dessert because we were full to the point of being in a food coma. Fortunately, we had a lot of walking around ahead of us, which helped work off our meal a little. But I would absolutely return to enjoy some of the other fares they have on the menu.

Food was so high quality and delicious. My pork was cooked perfectly which is a difficult thing to…read moredo.
