Been craving a gyro for a bit now. Stopped in for 2 gryos and 2 fries to go. Ordered my food and the wait time was short and headed home with some hot and fresh food. Hit the spot! The staff was nice and restaurant was clean. read more

Droopy's Gyros - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Winthrop Harbor, Illinois

See all

Haven't been to Droopy's in a little bit. Seems they have new management and many new items on the menu. We tried the steak nachos grandes with fries instead of chips. It was decent. I think it would have been better with well cooked (crunchier) fries. Also enjoyed a pizza puff. read more

I've always loved Droopys. If you want diner style Mexican and hot dogs! The patty melt is to die for. Their French fries are super battered and crispy and don't forget the verde with your tacos!! The carne asada is never dry! The people are nice and the food is greasy and tasty!! Never had a bad experience. read more

New Kids on the Block had a lot of hits, Chinese food makes me sick, and I love when the fly girls stop by for the summer. *That's the song that kept playing in my head when we walked into this establishment.* This little restaurant has a very classic old school menu of hot dogs and hamburgers, and a very nostalgic feel of old Small town America in the late 90s or early 2000s. We had the Chicago dogs and Al Pastor tacos. The Chicago dogs were the best I've ever had, much better than Portillo's and for a fraction of the cost and wait time. The Al Pastor tacos were decent. We finished off with a scoop of ice cream which was still priced as it would've been in the 90s. read more

Very professional and friendly. Great food. I used go to pizza house but this is my favorite place to go now.

love the food but the cashier is bad. I think she is the owners kid. disorganized and a terrible attitude. made a statement that at least I got my food, when I complained that it had sat on the counter for 10+ minutes as she flitted about. Sadly, not sure if I'll be back. Lunch shouldn't be painful read more

Droopys has the best food around. Which isn't saying that droopy's is necessarily a five-star, The best food I've ever eaten. it's the best in Winthrop harbor though no doubt. It's a small establishment that serves a little bit of everything at a reasonable price! The staff has always been friendly, the food has always been good. read more

Ordered a couple things off the menu, but the Chicago dogs came with a stale bun... the bun was just too hard. And the mozzarella sticks were not good. The Gyro meat and the onions were also very thick. read more

Some of the worst foods I've ever had. Went to customize my plate and got individually charged for each item instead. Including the ones I didn't want. Got charged extra for asking for dips on the side. When my nachos came with just a smear of cheese. I asked for a little more. They charged me 2.00 for a small cup of cheese. The whole restaurant smelt like septic. The employees children were running around the restaurant. The hot beef was horrible. Tasted stale. The food was given to us in to go containers read more

It's a burger place. If you're expecting 5 star cuisine go elsewhere. As far as burgers go, they're decent.

We moved a little over a month ago and found Droopys... I am originally from Chicago and love the Chicago Dogs .. All the food is good tamales etc.. The food is worth waiting for.. The proprietors are very nice... A pleasure to go there We have gone every week since.. Sometimes a few extra times! Keep up the good work. read more

Doesn't look like much if you are driving past, but I wanted to try something new & close to home. I wanted a burger, fries & a milkshake. I received so much more. The double cheeseburger was massive. I made sure to get the works and it did not disappoint. A juicy burger, crisp waffle fries and a milkshake you can literally flip upside without and drips. Great customer service! read more

Big fan. It reminds me a little of a place in the city I like. The fries are great. ALWAYS get cheese on the side. Mmm... Cheese. I ordered the Gyro. Thing was huge! As it should be! The lamb was cooked amazingly well. My coworkers got the chicago dogs -- they seemed to enjoy them. I will definitely be asking to come back here. (Darn you, lack of car!) The fact that they offer great specials... and food covered in Chili Cheese... and then Gyros! Yeah. SOLD. I will return. read more

This place fails on all levels. Constantly mess up take out orders. Staff really doesn't seem to care either. The worst is my co-worker liked their wings. Until they started coming with quills and pin feathers on them. By the 3rd time we were done with them. Shows they also source out cheap product!! Just gross. Who wants FEATHERS on their chicken wings?? Plus they screw you on the deliveries too. Once you complain you become to far to deliver too. What business doesn't want $50 plus lunch orders? One with a staff that doesn't care!! read more

Droopy's Gyros is really good! They have something for everyone! Whether you want a taco or even a hot dog

Droopys is a good place to get a gyro or a roast beef sandwich or a good hamburger eat there all the time they deliver places clean courteous owner and staff you will be well taken care of if you eat there. They have fresh fries and all in all it's a great dining experience you won't be disappointed. read more

Recently moved to the area. What is better than a greasy cheeseburger after a rough night?!?!?!! So I stopped here thinking this may be the place. Needless to say I was very disappointed. I had a cheeseburger and fries. While the prices was not bad, they were just OK. Fries... They were undercooked (still cold/hard in the center) and way too much salt. Had the fries been cooked right and less salty, they would be great because I love steak fries. A side of Merkts cheese would be even better but they did not offer it. When I asked the cashier if they had Merkts or melted cheddar, she looked at me like I was an alien. Cheeseburger... it was pretty small (comparable to McDonalds!) Not sure what, maybe some more spices, maybe they were frozen instead of fresh, I am not sure what it was, it just didn't have much flavor to it, it needs something! Most like will not be returning to this one... read more

Tried this for ice cream yesterday. Horid! I threw it away. Ever open something and put it in the freezer and when you go to use it , freezer burn? That was the flavor. Plus the cones are so small they can't handle one scoop. Food is OK (2 stars) but avoid the ice cream read more

amazing and delicious food as always!! definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area... friendly staff and friendly environment!!!

So, I've been on a car trip for 2 days, we stopped in to get some quick food. I don't have a mask because it's against my religion. Afterwards they treated us like the worst people ever, unfriendly and just rude as all get out. I don't recommend read more

I went there for the first time for Gyros and was very disappointed. The meat was skimpy and the pita fell apart. The Tzatzizki sauce was bland, tasted just like yogurt, no flavor at all. I ordered a Baklava which was pretty small and very hard and stale. I guess it will be the last time I go there. read more

Very rude cashier cares more about her phone then taking order. Good not same since new guy took over

Lots of potential here, but here is the deal. The French fries are hand cut, however they are full of greases and mainly well done to burnt. Delivery service is extremely slow. The Burritos are just ok. The steak is sometimes crunchy, I thought I may have chipped a tooth. Out of three orders they messed up the order Twice. The place is clean, they really do try, but honestly I think you can better elsewhere read more

Placed a delivery order and it was not the first time delivering to the requested location. "Delivery to Beach Park" printed clearly on menu. Owner or manager calls back and very rudely tells me last time they'll come here as we're "too far". Delivery driver says yes they deliver here she's not sure why he said that. Not quite sure why you'd not want to be nice to someone who wants to do business with you AND wants to give you money. Good thing we CAN'T order from there again...the order was so messed up... 1/2 order of fries instead of two. Cheese on the cheese fries was gelatinous and globby, inedible. Sweet tea instead of unsweetened tea (diabetic's drink order, inexcusable!) BBQ sauce instead of buffalo/hot sauce. No napkins, utensils or the ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise that was requested. Tacked on a $4.00 delivery fee which is no where on menu or FB page. The way I see it they owe me $7.75 for missing and wrong food. Can not recommend this place. read more

Droopy's Gyros - Order of fries. Not even enough to split between the two who ordered fries. - Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt Near Me - Winthrop Harbor, Illinois

Absolutely the worst gyros in NE Illinois. They don't even have a gyro spit/ broiler. They re-heat the meat in a microwave. 100%un authentic. Would never go back. read more

This place used to be great - not so much anymore. The last two gyros I got were so skimpy it was almost comical - imagine a hot dog wrapped in a pita, that's how little meat they put in it. My wife and I used to split one gyro from Droopy's, and now one is not even enough for me. No drop in prices, of course! I reached out to them on FB to see what happened, and they never even responded. Too bad... read more

I think the food is ok. The burgers are great! The people who work there bring the business down significantly! I know from experience it is hard to find good workers but the ones they have now really don't care about the food they make or the customer service they provide. On a positive note the restaurant and facility are always very clean. read more

The grilled chicken sandwich is amazing and my husband loves their steak burritos. Decent experience by my standards.

Decided to try again. I don't know why... The Polish was barely cooked and the onion rings were cold. Please don't waste your money. Just go somewhere else. read more

I luv luv their veggie burger. !!!! Better than Burger Kings' and McDonald's doesn't even have one !!!! If only they would carry veggie hot dogs.. I'd be in heaven. My husband and I love them. Good job !!!!! read more

Just keep driving by this one. - As you walk in it appears to be clean with the normal Young person behind the counter. I ordered and I could hear them joking about - Focus People- Less Jokes and more detail to the Food Please- The home style fries were twice even three times baked with too much oil, a dark brown color - My Meal was bland-o-la - Everything was there but no flavor. Over the Grand scheme of things this is a onetime stop - I will move on, there are Tons of Mediocre places that are much better than this place. read more

I'm not from the area, so when I came to this place I wasn't so sure what I would be getting. The first few times I came in, the food was good. Nothing spectacular, but good. Then remember calling a few times in the evening to order food, and was told they were closed, two hours before they advertise. Also recall the last time I went there, the employees sitting outside with friends smoking. Took a few minutes before they came in, and then said they were closing early. Seems like the owner let's the younger employees do what they feel like. read more

This place just makes me feel gross. Came in a few times, food wasn't anything impressive or special, but since there's not such a huge selection in town, I settled. Service varies, it's really a gamble, depending on if the kids who work there are up to working that day. Have called in before, and they said they are closing...hours before it's actually advertised as being closed. Drove by that night, to see the cluster of workers sitting out back smoking with a few neighborhood kids...this place is just a joke. read more

Used to be a regular. Now, even though they have a huge sign that says they deliver, the last 3 times I called they said they won't. New managent/owners have driven this place into the ground. read more

I had stopped going to Droopys several years ago due to substandard food and service, about a month ago a friend said I should try it again. I stopped that night and got a gyro wrap for wife and combo plat of gyro, beef, chicken greek style, it was pretty good. So we tried again this past Sunday evening, yuck gyro was chunks not sliced or browned, cold and just terrible, french fries cold and limp even after I asked for extra crispy. The counter person was indifferent, the cook obviously did not care what kind of food he was serving. Avoid this place at all cost. read more

This place is disappointing on every level. Sloppily made food, either undercooked or over cooked, delivery is slow, staff is rude. Nobody at this establishment cares how they come off as a business. read more

I'm revising my former 4 star review after several recent disappointing visits. Unfortunately this place just seems to be on a slow slide downward. Their burgers used to be awesome, but the last 2 I've gotten were clearly burnt around the edges, overdone and didn't taste great. If I was an owner I wouldn't have served them. Several phone orders were taken by a clueless employee who messed up everything. They used to have the best, friendly, very hustle to business girl working at lunch. I wish she was back, new staff leaves much to be desired. THeir fries still rock and unlike previous reviewers, my last philly cheesesteak was quite good, but yeah Droopy's is not what it used to be which makes me very sad... read more

Since this place opened, we go there for lunch 2-3 times a week. The place has awesome food. The customer service is great...always greet you with smiles and always courteous. I have probably tried everything on their menu and have yet to come across something that wasn't good. Their fries are delicious. The chicken on a pita with teriyaki is great. The beef, meatball sandwiches, gyros, burgers, dogs....everything is great. Oh yeah.....the custard ice cream..to die for. What a nice change to bring into Winthrop Harbor. read more

I went yesterday ordered a gyro platter with a drink online it stated the drink was included. When paying the girl helping me then charged me extra for the drink, so I pulled my phone out and showed her the website and how it clearly stated gyro platter with drink included. She got a nasty attitude and claimed the website hadn't been updated. Honestly the food wasn't all the good and then the rude cashier. This is one place I will never go to sorry. read more
