This area has a lot of dance studios but what drew me to Shanon's is that she has a heart of gold and treats everyone with courtesy and respect. Her warm demeanor, pride in her studio, and care for her students and their parents really shine through in every interaction I have with her. She is also a true professional who is quick to reply to any emails with any questions I may have. Just as importantly, Shanon's Dance Academy students are under the tutelage of the fabulous Ms. Martha. Under Ms. Martha's firm, no-nonsense approach, my kids have really improved in their dancing skills over the past year and their love of dance has only grown. And although Ms. Martha doesn't coddle her students, she possesses the necessary balance between being tough and gentle at the same time. She treats my kids and all dancers with dignity so that when she gives them constructive criticism, they actually want to improve and work hard to do so. Shanon and Ms. Martha are a real team and they put on an amazing end-of-the-year recital each June that my entire family looks forward to. My kids have been in two recitals so far and the recital experience is one that I really feel has been a positive in their development. I could go on in my praising of Shanon's Dance Academy but I will end my review by saying that my kids always come home from their respective dance classes in a better mood than before they went. And they recently told me that they never want to stop dancing! It is my hope that they never do - and I am so grateful that their love of dance, as well as their technique, is being nurtured and developed at Shanon's Dance Academy!

We were allowed to bring in food, drinks, and decorations, so that was very convenient! And the instructor really taught at a pace that everyone was able to feel comfortable with, and try! The instructor was a very nice young lady, and professional. I believe her name is Jai and she is the owner. I would recommend for women to check out some of the classes, as I know there was a pole class added and cardio classes!

As an instructor and a role model to our child, she is incomparable and we'd pay a lot more than the (very) modest price she charges to have our little one learn from her every week. Truthfully, I can't say enough good things about her. The classes range from ballet, hip hop, tap, and jazz. As parents who have done it already know, for children's dance instruction, the teacher is what makes or breaks it. We couldn't be happier. Miss Ayanna is the perfect combination of firmness, gentle guidance, taking one's self seriously when it comes to the work and achieving excellence, while also having FUN and being goofy. I don't know how she gets a classroom of little ones to both listen to her and have a great time, but she does - without exception. Our child is making mind-body connections, has gained a noticeable confidence, and has actually started to follow *our* rules and guidance more consistently since joining Miss Ayanna's class. These dance classes are just a god-send. (And the recitals are so much fun.) I only wish we lived closer so that we could attend more classes - - she is in the Romulus R.A.C. for now, but will hopefully have her own studio soon. Her desire to share her passion with her students is apparent and her aura intoxicating. She is enchanting, enthusiastic, encouraging, and fun! She constantly reminds her students to focus on progress instead of comparing themselves to others. She is incredibly humble and genuinely interested in helping her students become better dancers. I enjoyed having a different musical genre than the typical. They also have cardio shimmy, pole classes, ballet and modern dance, samba, personal cultivation workshops for young ladies, and a host of other monthly themed events. Very reasonably priced $10-$20/class. A really empowering environment for young ladies and us seasoned adults. Tip: Last door on the right. The first doors are to the apartment lofts. House of Bastet has it's on entrance. You may miss it if you're not paying attention.

The theme of this particular party was soca and reggae, need I say more??? The environment is very warm, friendly and welcoming even to a "shy", novice like myself. This class had about 20-30 women and 3 instructors throughout the course of the nite. Each instructor was very skilled and changed the vibe of the class with their unique personalities. We were encouraged to bring a refreshment to share and by the end of the nite had a great assortment. I cannot give away every little treasure that this place has to offer, but I will say expect to be taken outside of your comfort zone within a supportive environment while at the same time feeling liberated. I definitely hope to attend again and recommend trying it. It is an exciting alternative to a traditional workout. My concern was parking.
