Drew teaches the foundational elements of break dance, which helps to engrain the different types of moves one can do when freestyling. This enables a kid to break out of the mold and perform something new and exciting every time. Besides that, Drew is a personal trainer, who really helps my son increase his strength. My son is increasing his core strength, enabling him to not only dance well, but to play sports at a higher level! I highly recommend Drew as an instructor, as a trainer, and now as a friend! Drew is also very intelligent and can articulate instructions in a comprehendible manner that kids can understand. I can see my son developing uncanny dancing ability under the leadership of Drew! My son will be able to wow and impress and do things beyond his imagination. If my son can increase his confidence and self-esteem at an early age, hopefully he can maintain it as he grows up and faces tough tween and teen years! Without something a kid can passionately pursue . . . well, you know what happens to them next. Drew keep up the excellent work, my friend!

The check-in person was super welcoming and told me about some of the other dance formats offered there. This dance studio caters to both children and adults. So you will see kids running around, which is ok, but I am not really used to. The class started on time. The instructor had great energy and encouraged us to have fun and do things our own style. I haven't been dancing in a while, so I knew it would be a good challenge for me. I really had a lot of fun. My only surprise is that the classes are only 60 mins. I think they ought to be 70 minutes to include a proper 5 min warm-up and 5-minute cool-down. There wasn't a lot of warming up in the beginning of this particular class. I've taken adult dance classes for years and I am used to something that include some warm-up movements to get the rotating joints going, like neck rolls, shoulder rolls, and hip and lower back movements. The class did include a relaxing cool down with stretching for the lower body and upper body. I plan to take more Hip-Hop style classes. They offer Cardio Hip-Hop, Beginner Hip-Hip and more advanced levels, Sensual Dance, Twerk, Ballet, Shuffle, Street Jazz and a lot more. I plan to try about 5 more formats and sign-up for one class for the summer session. I highly recommend this place!

I attended a Swing Dance event at The Lasley Centre For The Performing Arts recently. A friend of…read moremine was teaching a Swing Dance lesson one evening, immediately followed by a Swing Dance with a local band named "The Silver Tones Swing Band" providing the musical accompaniment. It was $10.00 per person to get in the door. Bottled water, a few different beers, and one red wine and one white wine were available for $5.00 each. I had a cup of the red wine - was pretty good. I met the daughter of the owner - she was manning the bar. Very nice people! I don't dance - and I did not attempt to participate in the dance lesson due to a lower back problem. But it was sure fun to watch the lesson, and then later the dance. There was an interesting mix of older and younger dancers. During the lesson - Ben made everyone periodically switch partners - so you basically cycled around a large circle. The lesson and the dance was held in a rather large room that I guess is a dance studio. There is a smaller second room where Ben held some more lessons after the dance started for those who felt like they needed more instruction. The only two things I will ding them on is: (1) Not enough capacity and hangers for folks to hang their coats; (2) The price of the bottled water was a little steep! I hope The Lasley Centre For The Performing Arts does well!

I enrolled them in a program but was quickly disappointed in the quality of teaching and mentoring that they were receiving. As a former dancer--I took ballet for 5 years as a teenager--my expectations were high. I wanted my girls to have the same positive, nurturing, challenging and inspiring experience that I had. Unfortunately, my girls hated going to dance class. We finally agreed to let them quit, a decision that didn't set well with me or my husband, but I could see they weren't learning anything. I found out about The Lasley Centre a year ago and enrolled my 8 and 10 year old daughters. Now, they love ballet and I can happily say that we have found the dance community I was looking for. From the professionalism of the teachers to the excellence of dance skills to the fellowship of the students to the community of parents and families, The Lasley Centre is everything I had hoped it would be. They teach kids responsibility and commitment along with a solid ballet foundation. And, they don't do recitals, they give performances. I believe, The Lasley Centre is an outstanding addition to our Arts community.

If your kid cries because they are scared in a new setting, make sure they cry quietly otherwise your kid will be removed from class. After spending almost $300 between registering for the class and school and buying the required clothing and shoes, my kid was removed because she didn't cry quietly enough nor would they let me sit in the class for her to watch lest she "sets off the other kids."
